September Foodie Penpal Reveal!

Highlights from the weekend:

  • Digital thermostat installed (nerd alert)
  • More crying over homework
  • Dinner at Joe and Twyla’s
  • Went to 2 of Tyler’s football games
  • Watched a dude snap his leg in half
  • Drank lots of kombucha
  • Slept while sitting up

But this post isn’t dedicated to this weekend’s happenings. Oh no. It’s all about my September Foodie Penpal goodies!

Check out all the loot I got from Blair!

Before I give my two cents on these yumm-o treats, lemme c&p all the deets on how this penpal thing works- and how you can join, too!

The Lean Green Bean

-On the 5th of every month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.

-You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal!

-The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treats! The spending limit is $15. The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!

-You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)

-Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you are to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month.

-Foodie Penplas is open to US & Canadian residents.  Please note, Canadian Residents will be paired with other Canadians only. We’ve determined things might get too slow and backed up if we’re trying to send foods through customs across the border from US to Canada and vice versa.

If you’re interested in participating for October, please CLICK HERE to fill out the participation form and read the terms and conditions.

You must submit your information by October 4th as pairings will be emailed on October 5th!

*If you’re from somewhere besides the US, Canada or Europe and want to participate, send me an email and I’ll see if we get enough interest this month!

…back to MY stuff..

Fancy schmancy granola. I hate to admit that I have yet to try any of this because I am still working on the chocolate granola I got from my pen pal last month! It really looks delish and I can’t wait to work my way to this bag!

Chili and Cinnamon chocolate. Yup. So good. I don’t even need to go into details on this. Chocolate anything is pretty much game as far as my tastebuds go.

Grrr, I haven’t tried these yet either! I fully intended on making pumpkin bread or muffins last week and topping it with this coconutty goodness, but time got the best of me. I think with Canadian Thanksgiving coming up (next week!) it might make it’s way into a dish 🙂

OH MY. I ripped open this bag 2 weeks ago after ingesting a few alcoholic beverages and watching Babymakers. Ay carumba that wasabi stuff kills the nose. But it hurt so good. I will definitely be looking for these at the store to have as a reserve in the cupboard.

A bar with chia seeds in it. I am totally won over. Sweet, filling, the end.

A huge thank you to Blair for sending me an awesome package this month!

August Foodie Penpal Reveal!

Holy Balls. This month, I had the best foodie penpal. Ok really they’ve all been super awesome- sending me things I’ve never tried (and ended up LOVING), but this month, Erin from Happier, Healthier, More Fit Me sent me a box full of chocolate goodness.

Before I get to the goods, let me lay down the law for how this Foodie Penpal thing works:

So here’s my beautiful assortment from Erin

Chocolate heaven!

Cute card to go with it! I love dogs!

Ok. WHY have this not been in my life until now? When I first opened the package, I laughed when I saw these, and actually said “OMG”….and then I ate them and REALLY said OMG. Graham crackers with almonds and toffee bits covered in chocolate? My dream. Tyler only got one. I pretty much inhaled the rest. Then had to do an hour of kickboxing to displace any guilt. 😉

I haven’t gotten into this one yet. I actually have it in my gym bag now as an emergency refuel bar. I can’t wait to have an emergency!

Tyler and I split this one. It was good- I was expecting it to taste different from the regularly packaged Hershey bars, but it was the same. No complaints. At all.

Another OMG. This granola is fabuloso. I haven’t had granola- or oats for that matter- in a super long time. I poured a bit of this in a bowl with almond milk and it hit the spot.

I ate this all by myself- directly after downing 2 cups of coffee. Needless to say, I was literally bouncing around the living room in front of Layla and Tyler who thought I was crazy pants.

Thanks so much, Erin!

Be sure to check out her blog (linked above) and sign up for September to get a package as awesome as this (also linked above)

First of all, I would like to thank Jen for letting me do this guest post on her blog.  I received my box of goodies and was thrilled to open it. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw all the great stuff she had sent.  Here’s a list of what I received as well as a few comments on each.

1. Organic sprouted sunflower seeds.  This really made me smile…I have loved sunflower seeds since I was a child.  I had never tasted them like this before (with garlic & sea salt) and wow….they were awesome !

2. Dark hot chocolate.  Well Jen did it again…another favorite of mine…hot chocolate.  Nothing beats a great cup of hot chocolate and this one was great !

3. Almond butter. I had never tasted this before.  I really enjoyed its smooth texture and great taste on toast.

4. Organic fruit snack (berry blend).  I’ve had fruit snacks before, but this one really packs a lot of taste.  It’s made with real fruit and you can taste it in every bite.  I’ll be carrying these around for sure!

5. Roasted Seaweed Snack. I haven’t tried this yet.  It’s a health-conscious snack made with the finest ingredients.

6. Sugar shortbread cookies.  I shared this one with my spouse.  They are almost as good as homemade.  We both enjoyed them a lot.

7. A package of sour candy.  These practically disappeared as soon as they were out of the box.  William (my spouse) says they’re delicious and thanks you very much Jen!

8. Electrolyte Hydrator (lemon lime). This replenishes electrolytes, minerals and antioxidants. It is something that I really need on days that I have chemotherapy.  Jen couldn’t have chosen a better product!

I’d also like to share with you all a quote Jen included in the hand written note she sent.  ‘The only time to eat diet food is while you’re waiting for the steak to cook’ -Julia Child.  You’ve just got to love this!

A great big thank you to you Jen for making me discover some tasty new products. You’ve made my third participation one to remember !

June foodie pen pal (i know, i’m late)

Hi guys.

I have been a terrible blogger lately.

I have just been too busy/too lazy to really get into writing any posts.

And I won’t be any better in the next couple of weeks. My parents arrive today. My birthday is Saturday. Stampede is for the next bunch of days. Yadda yadda yadda.

But, I did want to post on the goodies I got from my June foodie pen pal. That’s right. June. Because I am a terrible blogger as of later (see: above) and I forgot to do so in a timely fashion.

Jamie was my foodie pen pal for June and sent me this wonderful assortment:

So many good things! I almost immediately cooked up the entire package of quinoa to have on the ready in the fridge. Second to go: the chocolate bar. DIVINE. I am saving the Hemp Hearts for the next time I have a salad, and the Good Beans until my mom gets here (because they’re gluten free).

Included in the box were these:

Some Usana products. I have yet to try them only because I suck at meal replacement stuff. Simply because I don’t replace them for meals, I eat them AND my meal.

Thanks so much, Jamie for the lovely box of yummy foods!

On to July!

It’s too late to sign up for this month now, but check out Lindsay’s blog in case you’d like to be involved in the future (you don’t have to be a blogger to join in!)
