Weekender

Hi friends! Hope you had a great weekend! We’ve had some pretty quality family time over here, so no complaints. Although….I could have gone for a little more sleep….

Friday: In typical Friday fashion, I started the day with a batch of protein pancakes and about a gallon of coffee to help get the sleepies out of my eyes. I cut up my pancakes because I had to feed Wes at the same time and with his grabby arms this makes it way easier.

Oh, and it was Wes’s 9 month birthday! I did his monthly recap which you can read here.

IMG_1705

After his morning nap we headed over to the doctor for his checkup. He did great, but was just a bit chilly!

IMG_1702

On the way home, we swung by the grocery store to pick up a few necessities (one of which may have been Ben & Jerrys).

We had leftover pot roast for dinner once Tyler got home then headed over to Costco to stock up. The trip wasn’t too long, so we got home in time for Wes to have his bottle, but the kid was on CRACK and preferred to roll around and babble until he finally went down at 8:45! At that point, I was ready to go to bed myself, but we watched a couple episodes of Homeland.

Saturday: I didn’t wake up until 8am (HOO-FREAKIN-RAY). I got dressed and had some breakfast before Wes got up. This doesn’t sound like a big deal, but man alive does it feel fantastic to have brushed teeth and a washed face in the morning. I quickly fed Wes then headed out the door to get to my hair appointment. Ummm…remind me never to go this long between appointments!

I got a lob cut and had the color brightened up a bit. It feels so great to have a fresh haircut I can’t even describe it. And the girl talk, HOT coffee and me time were the best!

IMG_1719

The afternoon consisted of lunch, a trip to Home Depot, and taking the dogs for a walk.

IMG_1721

IMG_1727

We ordered pizza for dinner, finished Homeland and BOOM..out like lights.

Sunday: I woke up a walking zombie. Boo. Wes had another wakeup in the middle of the night which actually didn’t last too long, but I couldn’t get back to sleep. I think the worst thing in the world is when you WANT to sleep but your stupid brain won’t shut off.

I think about 4 hours later getting up I actually WOKE up so I made some BAE.

IMG_1733

I made Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars, took a nap, worked out, walked the dogs, did laundry then BOOM time for bed.

IMG_1741

Also, can we please talk about how this type of telephone is pretty much obsolete for his generation?

How was your weekend?

Weekender

How is the weekend over already? I swear to God it was only two seconds ago that I woke up and was excited to eat pancakes! Another low-key weekend for us..dang cold weather is keeping us indoors more than I’d like.

Friday: Pancakes in peace. Wes didn’t wake up until almost 8:30 so I was able to clean up the kitchen, make breakfast AND eat it in peace and quiet.

IMG_1533

I took a peak out the blinds and noticed how frosty white everything was! I opened the patio door to snap a pic and WHOA- it was pretty but FRIGIDLY cold out. Brr

IMG_1536

Wes’s first tooth even poked through! It’s very tough to see, but it’s there. So of course, photos were taken to celebrate. Love this sweet little boy!

IMG_1541

We braved the cold to run some errands- Co-op had a great sale on Vega so I had to make sure to pick some up. Wes wore his dino hat- I really need to take a pic of him in it because it’s so cute and I can’t help but laugh when he’s in it.

I was able to watch more Making A Murderer while Wes went down for a nap. BONUS: I had a Wild Rose Brewery Cowbell to enjoy while I watched! Tyler spent a good chunk of the evening painting all the trim we had picked up last weekend. Do home renos ever end? The guy is seriously busting his butt ALL THE TIME with something around the house! (PS: Thankful for that. I’ll stick to doing laundry and cleaning the bathrooms, tyvm)

IMG_1545

Dinner was super simple: Chicken roasted in Mums (<—SO GOOD), potatoes and broccoli. We watched a few episodes of Homeland then went to sleep.

IMG_1548

Saturday: Did I mention Tyler’s the best? He pretty much TOLD me to take a bath before Wes went down for his nap and to take as long as I wanted. I used one of the bath bombs he got me for Christmas and abused some me time for a whole hour. It was glorious.

IMG_1550

Meh- I just realized I took practically ZERO photos on Saturday.

During the afternoon, Tyler did more work on cutting and installing some of the trim while I took Wes grocery shopping. We played around for a bit when we got home, then I took the dogs for a walk while Wes napped.

IMG_1556

Tyler made lasagna for dinner- we stuffed our faces- then plopped on the couch downstairs to watch The Intern.

Sunday: The lasagna didn’t agree with me so well, and I wound up getting sick during the night (could’ve been the mix of that plus the prosecco I drank during the movie?) Yuck. I took a SUPER LONG nap in the morning then made myself a delicious brunch plate.

IMG_1558

The extra sleep + tons of water + food = much better feeling Jen.

We had the games on downstairs while Tyler was in/out of the garage cutting more trim. We’re a split household–> I’m a Seahawks fan and he’s a Vikings fan, so the game was pretty intense to watch. Not gonna lie though, I was sorta rooting for the Vikes because they have been having a pretty great season. Bummer ending…but my team’s still in it!

IMG_1568

During halftime, I decided to throw together my first ever batch of baked doughnuts! I chose to use this recipe– it was so simple to put together and they turned out GREAT. Like….super.freaking.delicious. Dare I say better than Tim Hortons? Yup.

IMG_1571

I will definitely be making this again in the VERY near future. And then all different kinds. I’m predicting a donut phase. Any flavor suggestions? Recipes to share? Send them my way, please!

After these were done, I exercised extreme self-control by heading downstairs to workout BEFORE enjoying one…or two…of them.

We had Mucho Burrito for dinner (I’d much rather make food, but we were both STARVING and didn’t want to wait for meat to thaw. And we didn’t really want to cook either). Wes had dinner, his bath, then continued his weekend adventure of attempting to get on his knees to crawl but mostly managing to only roll all over the place.

The dogs got a walk before bed, but we sort of jogged it since I wasn’t much in the mood to be outside. Poll: Is anyone else guilty of keeping their PJs on under warm layers? I do it almost every time I walk the dogs.

Time to hit the sheets, I’m pooped!

How was your weekend?

Weekender

Hey there! Hope you had a great weekend! We’ve already put all the Christmas decorations away and boy does it make the house feel so naked. Sad face. I bet it’ll be a blink of an eye and we’ll be taking them out again for next year so I can’t be too bummed about it.

Backing it up a couple days to recap the weekend (although hardly anything happened!)…

Friday: The new year started off on a pretty regular note. I got up with Wes and we hung out until Tyler got up and I could whip up some of my usual Friday pancakes. The past few days, I’ve been giving Wes some puffs to snack on after I get him dressed for the day. Super dangerous considering there are two extremely snack-hungry pups in the house, but they’ve both been surprisingly good with it and only snagged a puff here or there- usually with consent.

In the afternoon, I simultaneously worked out with watching the most recent season of The Mindy Project while Tyler began organizing our file cabinet (soooo needed, you have no idea.) Then pizza for dinner because umm.. we couldn’t think of anything else to have.

IMG_1400

After Wes went to bed we watched Everest. Of course I got super curious and spent about 45 minutes searching the internet for pictures of the actual people and reading about them.

Saturday: Woof, it was a rough day. I got up and did Wes’s usual morning routine then headed back to bed for a nap when Tyler got up. Around his morning nap time, he wouldn’t really go down so after 45 minutes of trying, I decided it was as good as skipped. After he had lunch, we headed out to buy some trim for the house and he wound up falling asleep for a bit in the car.

Once we were home, he was irritable again and dinner/bath/bed time was pain in the hiney- he was just very whiny and we couldn’t figure out why! I only got one good picture of him playing which happened to be in the 15 minute time span that he was in decent humor.

IMG_1410

Mucho Burrito for dinner- an easy go-to when we have zero desire to be in the kitchen.

IMG_1411

Because naps were pretty much non-existent, he went to bed at 6:45 then I took the dogs for a long walk. We watched a few episodes of the latest season of Homeland before going to bed.

Sunday: Well it made sense why Wes was having such a crap Saturday. The kiddo woke up with a runny-as-heck nose and a bit of congestion. I’m pretty sure I can see one of his bottom teeth starting to poke through too.

I spent the morning wiping his nose and doing everything possible to keep him happy. Seemed to do the trick (PLUS- I was able to sneak in a 15 minutes nap while he napped!).

IMG_1412

BAE Sundays are the best 😉

Although he was showing obvious signs of a cold, he was taking it like a champ and had fun playing with his toys throughout the afternoon. He took another nap at his usual time and I was able to workout and walk the pups.

FYI: I always eat dessert before dinner. Today, I enjoyed a (way too small) piece of chocolate cappuccino cheesecake that Tyler made. HOLY HECK IS IT GOOD. Then, I made a hodge podge bowl of quinoa, pulled chicken, sautéed veggies and cashews. YUM!

We watched some of the football games downstairs while I organized the rest of the file cabinet. Exciting, I know!

That’s it from our end! Tyler is back to work tomorrow and I have decided to start seriously looking into childcare options for when I go back to work in April. BARF.

How was your weekend?!

Weekender

Hey friends! Happy Christmas week! I am so so so so so so excited for this week because I just love the holiday season and can’t wait to experience it with Wes for his first time. Anyhoo…our weekend was actually a bit low key, but it was JUST right for the three of us (whoops…five of us if you count the pups!) Here’s what we were up to…

Friday

I was really hoping Wes would stick to the loose schedule he’s been on lately, and the kid didn’t disappoint! After he woke up from his morning nap and ate, we hopped in the car and headed up to Airdrie so I could buy one of his Xmas gifts. It was pretty snowy out and I skidded on an offramp which was SCARY. I took a different way home and was glad to be off the roads after that.

During Wes’s afternoon nap, I relaxed in the tub with a slice of Cheesecake. Umm..can’t hate that!

IMG_1101

Tyler made some delicious black bean chili for dinner and we watched Mad Max in 3D downstairs before heading to bed.

Saturday

I made an appointment for the dogs to get their nails clipped at our vet because they were having a fundraiser. Tyler ended up walking them over while Wes and I did some serious playing.

Later, it was Wes’s last session in the pool. It was Tyler’s turn to be in the water with him an I was kinda jealous- they did some fun stuff! I’ve decided not to enroll in the next session because weekday classes are around his nap time and I want to have Saturdays free so we can have options for other activities.

IMG_1124

Tyler made a big Costco run while I stayed home for Wes’s afternoon nap. I may or may not have taken another bath while he was sleeping. 😉

Apparently I had Tyler do a lot on Saturday because he also made us pizza for dinner! (Ok, I guess he is useful! haha)

IMG_1127

Before Wes went to bed, we pushed him back and forth on his car and he LOVED it. If you haven’t already seen it, check out my Instagram feed for some of my Wes on Wheels videos!

We watched Christmas Vacation and called it a night!

Sunday

The little one slept 13.5 hours! Good kid. I did some odd and ends around the house before he finally woke up. I guess I could have gone back to bed, but I’ve been averaging some seriously good hours of sleep this week so I didn’t feel the need.

Tyler made us some breakfast and we hung out a bit while football was on…….all day.

During one of Wes’s naps, I headed over to Shoppers. Can you believe it has been over a year since I last bought makeup? I hardly wear the stuff. I wound up purchasing some mascara, foundation, an eyeshadow kit and a brow kit. Holy cow is makeup expensive!

Once home, I whipped up a batch of peanut butter blossoms. They are gooooooood. (PS: Hershey’s chocolates in Canada are WAY better than the US)

IMG_1143

We had pork tenderloin for dinner and umm…..I may have taken another bath while Tyler fed and put Wes to bed. hehe

How was your weekend??

Weekender

Hey there, happy Monday! How was your weekend? Ours was pretty good- Wes sorta got back to normal in his napping so that was a huge load off our shoulders. Phew! Backing up a couple days…

Friday: Not much during the day on Friday. Tyler came home with some new beers to try, so I had one with dinner (chicken fajitas!). Once Wes went to bed, we watched Ridiculous 6 on Netflix. It was ok- your typical Adam Sandler movie.

Saturday: After a low key morning and a long walk with the pups, we headed to the Y for the pool. I am really starting to dread it because the water is either cold or I am freezing once we get out! Poor Wes cried when we were changing afterwards because he was so chilly! Next week is our last class, so I’m trying to enjoy it while it lasts!

Once Wes went down for a nap, I went out to run some errands. By the time I got back, I had to quickly whip up an appy, bake cookies and shower before heading out to a Christmas get together with some other local blogging friends (Leigh, Brie, Jen, Ashley,  & Ange).

We did a gift exchange and I wound up with my own gift. WOMP. The one I originally chose was stolen (DRATS- I loved it!) and I felt bad stealing someone else’s knowing they’d get stuck with mine. Does that make sense? Either way, I think I’m overly bummed about it. Anyone want to trade gifts with me? haha

IMG_3991

UGH. This makes me realize how much I hate my hair these days. Color it? Cut it? How do I *do* it? I am officially paranoid that it doesn’t look good anymore. Are you silently judging me? Photo cred goes to Jen

Sunday: Same old Sunday routine-> I got up with Wes, napped once Tyler got up, we watched tons of football, did laundry, walked dogs, blah blah blah. BONUS: Tyler made a cheesecake! It has to sit in the fridge overnight so I can’t tell you yet if it’s good or not but I’m about 1,000% sure I’ll love it.

That’s it in a nutshell! Lots of Christmas movie watching and baking this week so hopefully more to report on that later!
