Check In

Hey! (I have been watching too many episodes of Duck Dynasty lately. Uncle Si kills me!)

Just a quick little check in, I wanted to remind all of you that today is the last day to “Like” my facebook page to be entered in a little intro giveaway! What’s the harm in a little mouse click with the possibility you might win something for free? Seriously.

Yesterday’s HEAT class was a combo of strength circuits and cardio blasts. I’d type out the whole class, but I’m not really in the mood. It basically went like this:

6 strength stations

Round 1 was one minute at each station, followed by a 2 minute cardio blast

the stations were:

  • alternating lunge with med ball twist
  • decline pushup
  • tricep dips
  • bosu squat hops
  • stability ball chest press
  • plank

then the cardio was 30 sec jacks, 30 sec high knees x2

Round 2 was another set of 6 stations each done for a minute

  • pendulum lunges
  • walking plank pushups (HOLY BALLSACK these made me SORE today)
  • tricep dip toe touch
  • bosu squats
  • stability ball chest flys
  • crunches

then another set of cardio that was a lot of down-and-back stuff: run x2, skip jumps x2, shuffle x2, and frog jumps

Round 3 was the same as round 1, this time with only 45 seconds of work. After 3 stations were completed, we did a 2 minute cardio burst like before) Then when all stations were completed, we did the down-and-back cardio as before

Round 4 was the same as round 2, except again at 45 seconds of work AND after each station, we did 30 second cardio bursts (plank jacks and jump twists)

I finished the class with a lot of quad/hamstring work on the bosu and abs.

Whoops, guess I did just write out the whole class.

Now go Like my page and get in the running for this giveaway!

MNF date

Still playing catch up.

Monday, we ran a bunch of errands then decided to put on our big kid pants (aka: stretchy pants) and go have wings and beer and watch football at Buffalo Wild Wings.

I am not one for fried foods (I never eat wings or fries or any of that crap) but I was having a craving- not for regular wings. I hate eating meat that still has the bones in the it. It just creeps me out. This place had boneless wings……and……

SHOCK TOP! Tyler is on vacation and I am always on vacation, so I figured back-to-back ‘bad’ meals was ok. So we indulged. I mean, really indulged.

We got there a few hours before the game even started, so we decided to just order stuff whenever we got hungry. I gotta say, the service was fantastic, there were tons of TVs and they even cranked the heat when they saw I still had my friggin parka on. Nice people.

Note: I don’t look like a girl in this picture.

Note #2: I hadn’t washed my hair in a couple days and it was n-aaaaaa-aaaaasty y’all.

Note #3: I really have to start wearing makeup again. Ugh.

Anways, back to the food. Me, the non-fried-food-eating-girl had wings and fried pickles. Ok, I had like 3 of the pickles, but those wings were screamin’ my name.

Tyler was a happy man. We both loved it there, but wished it was closer to home in case we need to walk back or something.

Ok, ok, I have GOT to stop talking about food! It makes my face feel fat just thinking about it all. MUST.GET.BACK.ON.THE.FITNESS.TRACK.

Yeah, I have been working out throughout all these terribly fatty meals (runs, walks, random tabatas with the gliders, etc) but I don’t feel like I’m really ‘in’ it. Youknowhatimean?

I was pretty much dead to the world yesterday until I had to get in gear and head downtown to teach my new TRX class. Oh wait, here’s a funny story- it’s a new-to-me class; these people are already five weeks in. When I found that out, I was like ‘crap, now they already know how hard it can be. What if I don’t push them hard enough? What if they see me refer to my powerpoint slides on certain moves? Oh crap oh crap oh crap I’m nervous. And I’m wearing my bright pink lulus today, I look stooopid.’

There were 11 people in the class, and I decided to change it up a bit and have them grab some other equipment to use along with the bands.

And you know what?

I think I killed them.

——–>insert deliriously happy face here <———-

I would have them do upper body supersets on the bands, then transition to free weights for supersets using the same muscle groups.

Then a core move, on and off the bands.

Then crazy insane cardio (like 30 sec burpees, 30 sec squat jumps X THREE)

Then supersets for the lower body both on and off the bands, more core, more cardio. You get the idea.

I think my favorite part was ending the class with a tabata of single leg squat jumps on the bands. BWAHAHAHA

Now I am off to teach HEAT!

Clusterfuhhhh of stuff

Too many things to catch up on. How to start. Where to start. Maybe I’ll just make it a big clusterf*ck of stuff. Here we go:

POMEGRANATES. Tyler found them at the grocery store and I squealed (like a delighted child, not like a pig…though there are minor differences)

So we rounded out our Saturday night with pom boozy drinks and betting on teams for Sunday football (fast forward: I only got TWO wrong. Damn Colts and stupid Texans. more on that..)

Sunday I took Layla for a long walk, finished up some HW (I swear to god if I have to write one more graduate level paper on Wal-Mart I will kill myself. Granted, this is my last class so chances are slim, but there are 7 weeks left, so you never know!) and we got to working on our Canadian Thanksgiving feast.

Since we were pretty much parked in front of the football games all day, and inhaled a ton of Coors lights, it only made sense that we set our coffee table instead of the dining room table for dinner.

I then proceeded to fill up my plate, and kill my digestive system (no joke)

“What’s all that on your plate” you ask? Well I was just about to tell you.

Well, of course there’s the turkey. Which Tyler prepared wonderfully. And we have another in the freezer for American Thanksgiving next month!

Jelly. I would normally make from scratch, but since Tyler doesn’t eat it, I didn’t bother. Besides, this is easier to slice for leftover sandwiches!

Potatoes from scratch (DA BOMB- said in the same tone to ‘DA BEARS’ ahha I crack myself up)

Green bean casserole. This was a must since I first introduced this to Tyler when I came to visit him here in Calgary during American Thanksgiving last year. It is his favorite (methinks)

Red cabbage that Tyler’s mom makes. I had never had it before, and he told me it was best when mixed with the mashed potatoes. And boy, that didn’t disappoint. It was soooo good!

Stuffing. So good, and yet so not good for you. Whatever, it’s Thanksgiving and the scale hasn’t budged. (Seriously, I’m not kidding. I ate all that, drank tons, and the number on that scale? The same. I thought it was broken, but I had Tyler try it out and I moved it around the house just to make sure)

Oh, and I did make my mom’s killer apple pie. I was nervous I didn’t make it up to par, but it came out fantastic!

The crust was made from scratch and everything. I am a badass betty crocker in the kitchen.

Thanksgiving was a success.

Yesterday, I made us some yumtascular pumpkin pancakes for us. After I woke up the two lovebirds from their embrace, that is.

I was feeling so confident in my kitchen abilities, that I smothered those fluffy things with Nutella. OMG was that the best decision I have ever made or what. So good. So so good.

Layla was given scraps of tons of stuff this weekend and I think she is still in a coma. Or she could still be feeling the effects of our 3.5 mile run on Saturday and our crazy long and hilly walk on Sunday.

K, that should satisfy your nutcaseinpoint sweet tooth for now, I have things to do! And vodka to drink.

Quite the little Saturday

Last night’s beers were tragically strong which made for an awful night’s sleep. Ah well, it wasn’t like I had to wake up for work or anything (let’s all take a moment and laugh, since I haven’t had a paying job since Feb 9, aka: the most glorious day of my life)

Tyler and I grabbed coffee at Tim Horton’s and headed down to the Calgary corn maze to get us some pumpkins. We were the only people there without children.

Because I am an awesome money-saver, we headed over to Michael’s and used my 50% off coupon to get some pumpkin carving crap.

And a rake (not from Michael’s) because we are domestic like that.

I don’t know if you know this, but pumpkin picking and rake buying are very labor intensive. When things are labor intensive, you work up an appetite. What I’m trying to say is- we got HANGRY.

What better place to fix that problem then to head over to our fave place, Brewster’s.

Tyler got the Crispy Chicken Ranch burger and I got the Maui burger. Pretty convenient they were next to each other on the menu for me to take a picture. Tyler also had an Oktoberfest beer (he loved- said there wasn’t any aftertaste) and I had the Raspberry Ale (our favorite). And we waited for food to be served.

Then, food was served. Imagine that.

This was my Maui burger. I tossed the top part of the bun, and still only got through about half of it. We were those people, and took the rest of my meat home for Layla.

After a few more stops (Safeway, home improvement store, liquor store) we finally got home.

And I decided to be awesome and take the dog for a run. Note: my dog is horrible on the leash and in the 3 years I have had her, I had yet to attempt a run with her.

32 minutes later, we both finished a 3.5 mile run! I have a feeling tonight Layla will sleep around 17 hours instead of her usual 13.

Now, Saturday is drawing to a close, and I am was just sitting here taking one of my weekly quizzes for one of my courses and Tyler is in the basement in the closet installing a humidifier. We lead quite the exciting life.

And tomorrow is Thanksgiving, so I gotta make pie.

If the boot fits..

Happy Friday, internets!

The sun is shining and I am in a good mood (rare). Tyler gets outta work early and he’s taking all next week off. And we are going to a corn maze/pumpkin patch tomorrow. And Sunday we are having our Canadian Thanksgiving. You bet your bippy Tyler’s the one sticking his hand up that turkey butt.

I think listening to FIT Radio first thing this AM helped too. I like being in a dancey mood while I’m brushing my teeth and eating spoonfuls of Nutella (and not in that order).

So yesterday, I went shopping. The mall I went to takes forever to walk around, and I got through about 3/4 of it and still hadn’t found anything I was there for. Sure, I tried on stuff that looked good, but either the jeans looked redic on me if I tried to sit down, or they didn’t carry my size shoe. Yeah, I know I know I wasn’t there for winter boots, but dude they were calling to me yesterday. I finally got my tush in a sweet pair of jeans THAT WERE ON SALE- so I figured that justified that boot purchase I scored right after.

You bet the top was on sale, too. Hello, orange clearance sticker! (Wearing the lulu headband from Chelsea– thanks girl!)

Dinner last night was a success. I wanted Mac n Cheese like it was nobody’s business, and I wanted to make it from scratch. So, I played around with this recipe.

Mac n Cheese Y’all

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • A box of macaroni
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1/4 c flour
  • 1/4 c minced onion
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1.5 cups shredded cheddar
  • 2 tbsp Frank’s buffalo sauce
  • 4 cups baby spinach
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan
  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs
  • 8 pieces BACON

Here’s what you do:

  1. Cook the bacon. Once it’s cooled, crumble and set aside.
  2. Cook the macaroni according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
  3. Spray baking dish and preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  4. In a BIG ‘OL skillet, melt butter. Add flour and stir with a whisk (here’s what I did because I was feeling bad ass. I used the same skillet I used for the bacon and I didn’t drain all the grease. I know, it’s fatty, but I have been super healthy all week and I figured a splurge is a splurge is a splurge).
  5. Add onion, milk and chicken broth and continue stirring with a whisk. Increase heat and stir until it comes to a boil and begins to thicken.
  6. Remove from heat; add cheese and buffalo sauce. Once it’s fully incorporated, add macaroni, baby spinach and crumbled bacon. (Again, I HAD to add the bacon because I intended for Tyler to eat dinner)
  7. Pour the mixture into prepared baking dish, top with parmesan and bread crumbs.
  8. Bake for 20 minutes, then broil for a few minutes to brown the bread crumbs.

I was mindful of my portion because I planned on some cardio afterwards.

And cardio, I did.

25 minutes of SUPER INTENSE spinning, and 10 minutes of sprint intervals. Topped off with 100 stability ball situps.

Ok, and now onto serious conversation. Let’s talk sleeping arrangements. In Boston, Layla had her bed and I had mine. A queen sized bed. And usually Layla slept on her bed, except in the winter and when I wasn’t home. But she had her designated space and I had mine. Since moving here and adding another body into the equation, things are different. She still has her bed, and Tyler and I have our King. Let me draw for you how we usually go to sleep: (note: characters are not drawn to scale)

To clarify, I put a skirt on my character. And no, we don’t smile when we sleep, but that’s how I draw my stick figures.

Then, at some point in the night, when we are sound asleep, something happens.

Tyler is super comfy, and I am smooshed off the bed from the pup. And yes, at that point, I DO have a frown on my face. There is so much dead space in the middle of our bed. It’s like Layla wants me gone, and needs to keep an eye out-from a distance- on Tyler to make sure he gets a good night sleep.

PREPOSTEROUS I SAY.

I have things to do, so I must be off.

Plans for the weekend?
