Weekend Recap

I knew I should have typed this up as soon as the weekend was wrapping up….because I totally forgot what we did. Let’s see how good this memory is for me….

FRIDAY: Wes and I headed to Chinook mall and walked around for a few hours. I also checked out a new/used kids store. We had pizza for dinner. I think that’s it?

SATURDAY: I got up pretty early with Wes and we did his morning routine before I headed out to get my hair done! I went to my stylist’s house for the appointment because she’s also on mat leave and it was a great few hours. Not only did I get some time out of the house, but I left with a fresh new color/cut. I picked up a couple bottles of wine on the way home then putzed around for the rest of the day. We watched Focus then called it a relatively early night.

SUNDAY: Wes was a sleep machine! after a 6ish wakeup, he was up again around 9, then passed out on my lap for a few more hours! This is when I demonstrated REAL strength- I had to pee for the 2 1/2 hours he slept on me and I held it the entire time. As soon as Tyler came in the room, I passed him off!

I had a friend and her daughter come over in the afternoon and we did some Father’s Day crafts while Tyler worked on cleaning up his truck to sell. It was a great few hours of crafts and conversation. We rounded out the weekend with Game of Thrones–> immmm BIG finale episode!!! PS: Tyler sold his truck yesterday, so we’re finally down to 2 family-friendly vehicles!

See you tomorrow for Winesday Wednesday…where I take a 2 minute break to NOT take pictures of Wes or talk about Wes or anything baby related!

Wesley Arlo- 2 months

My little baby man is two months old today! When I think about it, I either cry because I miss him as a newborn and I haven’t slept in two months, or I gush over the fact that I’ve been head over heels for a poop machine for that long.

Wes2months

His stats according to the doctor’s appt we had this afternoon–> height: 24″; weight: 14lb 3oz

This month, Wes FINALLY transitioned out of that horrible, terrible, awful, no good wake-up-every-2/3-hours-to-eat-and-cry phase and started sleeping long stretches! I’m talking 11pm-6am then another stretch from 6:30-8:30am.

awesome

And, we seem to have a bit of a routine going. Once he wakes up, he eats, gets time on his play mat, eats again, and naps. That gets us through till about anywhere from 12-4 pm. The afternoons and evenings are still up in the air- once Tyler gets home (and the dogs bark and inevitably wake him up) he will vary between lots of feedings, being carried around, ergo baby naps, the floor…you name it. At night, we top him off with a bottle and he’s out. He’s still only on breastmilk too. You’re welcome for sharing.

Wes loves staring at all the toys on his playmat. I’ve rearranged them a few times and he still has a favorite (the owl.aka: there is a lot of hoots made in our house now). He loves finding the brightest thing in the room and staring at it. Or staring at the wall because that’s equally interesting.

IMG_0729

He LOVES being on his changing table. I usually spend a few minutes playing with him before we attend to his ‘business’ and another few minutes afterwards. He gets pretty chatty and kicks a lot. Most of the time when he’s on the table, I’ll FaceTime with my mom and dad so they can see him.

He now hates getting dressed (now I know he’s my kid!). Most of his clothes are 3 months, but some of them are even 6 months- depending on the brand. He’s in size 2 diapers and absolutely FILLS them multiple times a day. And by FILL I mean you can hold him up and the diaper will just about fall off of him it’s so heavy.

IMG_0786

He loves his baths, but doesn’t like getting out of the bath. He loves to punch me in the chest when I’m feeding him *I do not love this*. He loves sitting on our lap and facing the tv. Especially if Game of Thrones is on. He loves when I squeeze his cheeks (the ones on his face). And he loves blowing bubbles. Or drooling on us. A lot.

I think he’s now starting to recognize me- he will be crying in his crib in the morning and when I finally come in, he’ll smile and maybe even giggle. Probably not because he loves me, but because he knows he’s about 2 seconds away from the boob.

IMG_0781

We’ve been doing tummy time and he’s not a super fan, but he’s strong enough that he got the hang of it after about 3 tries. And by strong, I mean STRONG. Those punches to my chest? Not comfortable. And he can kick something fierce. Fingers crossed this transfers to athleticism as he ages and potentially a scholarship? One can hope. College is ‘spensive.

We’ve found that he’s really asleep when we’re holding him ONLY if his mouth is open and/or he takes one of those deep quiver breaths. Then we’re good to put him down and enjoy anywhere between 4 seconds to 4 hours of freedom. HE HAS AN OLD MAN BUTT. It’s probably my favorite thing ever. That and his big cheeks/small chin/no neck combo.

When he had a cold a few weeks ago, he did NOT like it when I put the saline up his nose and sucked out snot. Now, he laughs when I do it. Weirdo baby. If he doesn’t have a large feed, he’ll often fall asleep on my lap on his side and look like he’s posing for Playgirl. I discourage this as a potential career path.

IMG_0723

We got his first Canadian passport. (American one will get done as soon as we actually receive the Canadian one and make an appt at the US Consulate office). He naps when I take him on walks but wakes as soon as I get back to our driveway. HOW DOES HE KNOW?!!

IMG_0742

He makes a fist with his thumb between his fingers like he’s got your nose. So obviously, he won’t fall for it when I attempt to get his nose when he’s older. Drats. He has big feet. He throws gang signs like a boss. He loves to stick his tongue out and coo. And sometimes we can see his neck when he coos because he works really hard at it.

He’ll turn his head to follow things. He sleeps with his arms out or over his head. I laugh every time I check him out on the monitor. He’s a good multitasker. Ok, maybe not that good, but he CAN eat and poop at the same time. He barfs a lot. Once it even got up my shorts. Talk about gross.

I think that just about covers the majority of his happenings this month. Tomorrow he gets his first round of shots! #bigboy

Friday Favorites

TGIF! Although that really means nothing for me. All the days run together..

I’ve got a few things I wanted to share as my latest favorites. But first, quick recap of this week:

  • Wes is now is size 2 diapers. Can someone say HUMUNGO
  • Tyler traded in his new Mustang for a new 4 door Wrangler. #familyfriendly
  • Leigh came over with Amelia on Wednesday to hang out!
  • Reggie ate a batch of chocolate chip cookies. He’s a total garbage disposal. Although, I did discover that he won’t eat walnuts, so that’s something.
  • Ok, one more baby thing–> remember the episode of Friends when Ross sings Baby Got Back to Emma and she laughs? Yeah, I totally did that to Wes the other day. And YUP, he laughed. So he’s definitely my child. I actually used to have a shirt in college that read ‘OH MY GAWD BECKY.’ I miss that shirt

So, my favorites:

1. Neutrogena Light Night Cream

neutrogena

I have only ever used Neutrogena on my face and had been previously using one of their anti-wrinkle night cream, but I found it didn’t do  really anything as far as wrinkles or moisturizing for my skin. I picked this one up a few weeks ago and just started using it and it’s really great. It keeps my skin nice and soft and definitely helps keep it moisturized- especially now that I’m starting to spend more time outside in the sun!

2. Grilled Zucchini Salad by Bobby Flay

zucchini

I made this when friends came over for dinner a couple weeks ago. I didn’t know if it was going to turn out, but it ended up being delicious! I had to bookmark it because we now have zucchini growing in our garden and I’m going to want to whip this up for a lot of dinners this summer!

3. Home Workouts! I’ve completed week 4 of T25 Alpha and I know I keep talking about it, but it’s really just that great. It’s only 25 minutes and I find it to be super effective for both cardio and strength training. BUT- it’s starting to get repetitive. I mean, I have been doing the DVDs for just about a year now! Hopefully by the time this is published, I will have bought the 21 day fix extreme (just for the workouts, I don’t care about the food portion of it!) I keep logging in to the website to get it, but then keep getting distracted by a certain someone.

4. My neighborhood. Lame sauce thing to say as a favorite, but it is! I can take Wes or the dogs for walks for MILES and never leave the neighborhood! There are tons of paths and little parks along the way that make it pretty enjoyable and I’m able to change up my route on a daily basis so it doesn’t get boring. Plus, there are areas that are flat and some hilly areas, so I can choose which way to go depending on how strenuous I want the walk to be.

5. GapFit Breathe V-neck tee

gap

This shirt is so soft and breathable and I can wear both casually and for workouts! I must have washed mine a billionty times already and it’s still holding up! I keep waiting for them to go on sale so I can pick up like a dozen more.

Ok, that was a pretty boring list, but it’s what I’ve got! Hope you all have a great Friday and a great weekend!!

Winesday Wednesday 6/10/15

Happy Winesday (and beersday and even cocktailsday) Wednesday! Holy cannoli do I need a drink or what. As I type this (Tuesday night) I can’t figure out what I might want to indulge in for the day, but I’m sure I’ll swing by the liquor store while I’m out..even if it’s just to browse!!

photo-55

This week, I have a pretty neat beer(s) to share with you! They come from Maui Brewing Co. Tyler picked up a 6 pack of the Mana Wheat for us to try a few weeks ago, and it was delicious! Best part- it was made with pineapple juice! Such a nice, light flavor and excellent to drink in the warm weather.

untitled

From their website: An unfiltered, freshly handcrafted American-style Wheat infused with Maui Gold Pineapple. Our crisp and refreshing wheat ale is lightly hopped to allow the fruity sweetness of the pineapple to shine. The yeast stays in suspension making the ale traditionally cloudy.

This past weekend, I swung by the liquor store and found another brew from them: the Bikini Blonde Lager. It was pretty light and basic, similar to many other lagers I’ve tried. The cool factor is that it was from Hawaii!

Bikini-Blonde-Sticker

From the website: Our filtered Munich Helles Lager brewed with floral hops and Pilsner and Munich malts. This is the closest thing to an American Lager from Maui Brewing Co., but not skimpy of flavor. Bold, smooth and refreshing!

Want to share what you’re drinking?! Make sure to tag me on social media so I can see!

PS: This is how I am at home when I drink beer (minus the random dudes). What are real clothes when you can lounge around in your pj’s?!!

Weekend Recap

Hey friends! This weekend wasn’t really full of events or anything, but I still loved it. (so weird, normally when it’s gorgeous weather I NEED to have plans!)

On Friday, Wes and I walked TWO different malls. An outing for him…racking up fitbit steps for me! For dinner, I picked up some steaks which Tyler cooked on the BBQ along with baked potatoes and garlicky mushrooms. YUM. Then….Wes slept through the night! Tyler and I high fived each other when we woke it. It was glorious.

highfive

Saturday, we went to Home Depot, test drove a car, cleaned the patio, mowed the lawn (<—that one was all me), walked the dogs and suffered through about 3 hours of nonstop crying. To clarify, it was Wes doing the crying. He still managed to go down at 11:30 and didn’t get up for the day until 10:30. To clarify, Tyler and I also slept until 10:30. Sure, there are like 4957049 things we could have done, but hot DANG sleep won that battle.

photo-54

Sunday, we started the day with bacon and eggs. It’s pretty much the best way to start every Sunday in my opinion. I hung out with Wes and did some house stuff & worked out while Tyler played football. We had chicken kebobs on the BBQ for dinner and well….that’s it.

See? Nothing super fancy to report, but it was great weather and we’re all still alive. SUCCESS.

Other random tidbits:

  • I committed the ultimate party foul the other day: I fed Wes then immediately poured myself a glass of sangria and began making chocolate chip cookies. BUT, the kid did NOT want to sleep so I had to cover the glass with foil and put it back in the fridge. SUPER SAD FACE Y’ALL
  • On one of our walks, Reggie stuck his head through someone’s fence and didn’t want to continue walking. Since I’m a weirdo and talk to my dogs when were out for walks, I said to him “don’t be such a snoopy dog.’ And then I started laughing out loud because Snoopy is a beagle. Oh my God, how much of a loser am I?
  • I finished week 3 of T25 Alpha! I’m pretty much back to the intensity I was at pre-pregnancy except for some of the plank work..still building up to that. I’ve also been walking the dogs a bit longer each day (around 3ish miles) and Wes gained even MORE weight so carrying him around still overrides any dumbbell workout I’d typically do. Around 15k steps each day according to my fitbit. Sa-weet.

Hope you had a good weekend!
