Weekend Recap

Not gonna lie, I’m like super uncomfortable. To the point of tears. While the time off from work has been great and I’ve been able to attempt relaxing, it’s still a struggle to find even a stretch of 20 minutes (sleep included!) where my back, my legs or my ribcage isn’t in rip-roaring pain.

I’m not complaining though, it’s only temporary pain! And heck, it could be WAY worse.

I have a pretty good support buddy, too.

Yeah, sure Tyler is here too and he’s been great. But it’s more fun to snuggle with Layla. Especially since she gets up early with me and now follows me around like a shadow.

Ok, so onto the recap. It’s not very exciting.

Friday, I had my doctor’s appt. They did that swab thingy and used an ultrasound to check the baby was head down. He is! Thank goodness. Now my appointments will be weekly until he comes OUT. That night, we had pizza for dins and watched Unbroken and several episodes of Inside Man.

Saturday we had our third childbirth class. This week there were several flashcards involved (hello 3rd grade!) and we discussed breastfeeding. Pretty sure I’m still totally grossed out by it, but it’s cheaper than formula. And God knows we could used the savings.

After the class, we went across the street to the hospital and checked out the labor and delivery floor just to get a lay of the land. It was so quiet! Which was weird, because the nurse at the check-in desk kept *quietly* running around exclaiming how busy she was! I also had a mini-anxiety attack because I don’t like hospitals. I’ve actually never been admitted to one before, so immmmmmm yeah.

We rounded off the afternoon with a trip to Home Depot. Surprise surprise! We picked up some paint and blinds for our kitchen windows (thank GOD for those blinds). I started to feel like shit, so I parked it on the couch while Tyler got to painting..supervised by Reggie…then made us dinner.

We watched Interstellar then another few episodes of Inside Man. The movie was just alright- we agreed it was like Signs meets Contact. Meh.

Sunday, I got up early and made pancakes for myself. I keep forgetting to buy maple syrup, so I had to improvise with cinnamon raisin pancakes topped with a honey yogurt drizzle. Sounds great, tasted great, looks like shit, and now I want to gag just thinking about it. I want to chug maple syrup instead.

I managed to do the laundry and Tyler managed to do just about EVERYTHING else around the house. He’s so good. I should buy him a present.

Nevermind, I’m making him a human.

We had hot dogs for dinner and I managed to NOT buy anything online, even though it was really the only thing I had the energy for. Is it just me, or does anyone else get online-shopping-happy then quit before checkout once you see how much shipping costs? I was going to order a bunch of stuff I needed from Rocky Mountain Soap, but then saw that shipping was $7 so I’ve decided to just task Tyler with the errand of going to their downtown location on his lunch break. Husbands are cheaper than Canada Post.

Ahaha, I just remembered that the woman teaching our childbirth class used a shark hand puppet and a stuffed boob to demonstrate breastfeeding. Just picture it. Maybe you’ll laugh too?

How was your weekend??

Weekend Recap

Friday- all I really did was take naps. Since I could barely move, I figured that sounded like a pretty good itinerary. I mean, I’ve earned it?

nap

Damn right I worked hard. I pride myself on being super fast and efficient in my tasks and feel slightly bummed that I had to abruptly hand over my duties to my not-yet-ready replacement. Can’t worry about that now!!

Saturday- I got up at the crack of dawn and baked banana bread (using this recipe). Unfortunately, it didn’t turn out as well as my last loaf, but it’s nothing that a good slather of pb/nutella/butter can’t fix!

Tyler and I then had our second childbirth class at the hospital. There’s a ton of good info, but I HATE hospitals, so I just get a bit of anxiety thinking about being hooked up to a bunch of crap and well…just being in the hospital in general. I’m hoping that everything is smooth sailing so we can get in and out of there as quickly as possible.

Best part of the class: the instructor is HILARIOUS. She’s a retired OB from Argentina who is not afraid to make the men in class feel as awkward as possible. And I love it.

We finished off the day with a great steak dinner at home and watched Exodus in 3D with our snazzy glasses. It was trippy being able to watch a 3D movie at home on such a large screen. The movie was good but not too thrilling since my Catholic education pretty much gave away the ending. (that’s supposed to be funny.)

Sunday: I met my friend Susie for brunch at Nellie’s in Kensington (decided to get out of the house for a bit before the pain really kicked in for the day). All I really wanted was the bacon. But I managed to eat the eggs and fruit too. Hashtag healthy.

And I sold my very first thing on Kijiji! What a sad accomplishment. But in all honesty, I never really had anything worth selling since I moved to Calgary with none of my things except for a potion of my clothes. But, I managed to sell my monthly transit pass pretty quickly (hey, it’s $99/mo and I only used it for a couple days!)

The rest of the day was filled with laundry and laying around the house…while Tyler did a ton of household chores AND installed the car seat!

Here’s to hoping the coming week is slightly more exciting (doubtful!)

How was your weekend? Best thing you did?

Weekend Recap [& A Giveaway!]

It’s Christmas Week! Yayyy.

Whoa, that was entirely too cheery for a Monday morning.

So whatttttt did I do this past weekend….hmmm. I honestly have to jog my memory to remember!

Friday after work, Tyler and I ran a ton of errands. Super exciting. Then we watched Don Jon (ummm did NOT know that the movie was about a dude addicted to porn!), Runner Runner, a stand-up special by Kevin Hart and another by Russell Peters. Lots of couch time.

Apparently that was my patriotic winter garb.

Saturday was even more lazy time, grocery shopping for Xmas meals, a QUICK set of 4 tabatas, then dinner at Anejo. We didn’t make reservations and I called to see what wait times would be like and they said to come before six to have little to no wait. Fine by us! We got there at 5:30 and enjoyed some table made guacamole and unique margaritas. For dinner, we shared a plate of tacos (beef short rib, adobo pork, crispy snapper, and chicken) they were SO delicious. Accompanying sauces were hot sauce, a verde sauce and a habanero mayo. My mouth is watering just remembering this meal!

We each had 3 drinks (HEY, they were small!). I had 2 chili coconut margaritas, and one guava. Tyler had a Tequila caesar, Mandarin margarita, and a Mexicalita (I think that’s what it was called).

We really loved the experience there and can’t wait to go back again! The ambiance is really great, too.

Nothing like a wall of tequila and Nacho Libre.

We came home and watched SNL and a couple episodes of Revolution. Does anybody watch that show? I think it’s terrible, but Tyler likes it. That main young girl  just annoys the living daylights out of me!

Sunday: Omelettes, naps, laundry, workout, paint nails, more Revolution. I just need it to be Christmas already, dang it!

This is the workout I did yesterday. Seriously try it, it’s…fun! I have been LOVING box jumps lately. Partly because they’re a great alternative to using cardio machines; partly because I feel badass doing them; partly because they yield some pretty amazing results.

OH RIGHT- I ALSO HAVE ANOTHER GIVEAWAY TO SHARE WITH YOU GUYS. Are you excited? The best part is: all Canadian & US residents can enter this one!

What’s the giveaway, you ask? A box full of lovely Kinnikinnick products!

(source)

Kinnikinnick sells Gluten Free products (and almost all products are also dairy free!) I was first made aware of the brand when my aunt and my mom were diagnosed with Celiac’s disease. For them to banish gluten from their diets was really hard- especially since they both live in an area that hadn’t quickly adapted to the needs of the disease. They both visited tons of grocery stores and sampled countless GF products before coming across Kinnikinnick (they passed on other brands because of high price and/or undesireable taste). Now, my mom and aunt both go to a nearby SMALL natural foods store and order Kinnikinnick products BY THE CASE so that they always have some handy (products are stored in the freezer). They love the quality of the product, the price isn’t too bad, and the taste is a close comparison to the foods they’ve always ate.

When the folks over at Kinnikinnick offere to send ME a box of GF goods to review and share with you AND offer another box for one lucky reader, I was pretty pumped! While this isn’t a new product to me, I was overwhelmed when I got the package in the mail last week. It included: One loaf multigrain bread, one loaf white bread, one bag (of 4) plain bagels, blueberry bagels, and cinnamon raisin bagels.

photo

I know a lot of people don’t care for the taste of GF products over the ‘real’ thing, but to be honest- these taste no different to me at all! (I think it’s just a psychological thing most of the time). Tyler and I shared a cinnamon raisin bagel yesterday morning and the flavor and texture matched any other bagel you’d find at your grocery store. Mmm, I can smell it now that cinnamony raisiny deliciousness.

I already plan on eating up the rest of this stuff over the next couple of weeks with sandwiches and more sandwiches and hearty breakfasts! You can invite yourself over to share in this deliciousness, but give me at least 2 hours notice so I can sweep up all the dog hair that is constantly accumulating in the house.

Other varieties of Kinnikinnick products that I’ve tried (and loved):

  • KinniKritter Animal Cookies
  • Graham Style Cracker Crumbs
  • Pancake and Waffle Mix
  • Chocolate Cake Mix
  • Tapioca Rice English Muffins (my mom’s favorite!)

Check out their website (link above) to see the wide range of products they offer AND locations where they are sold- you can also order online.

Thanks, Kinnikinnick!

Ok, so if YOU want to enter to win a box of goodies (I’m thinking similar, if not the same, as what I’ve recieved) here’s what you have to do:

COMMENT BELOW answering the following question:  Have you ever tried Gluten Free products? If so, what’s your favorite? (pasta, breads, desserts, etc.)

For extra entries (leave a separate comment for each):

  • follow them on twitter and tell them @nutcaseinpoint sent you!
  • dance around the Christmas tree (or, if you do not have a tree or celebrate Christmas, dance anywhere in your house.) Let me know what song you danced to and who was watching.
  • tell me a holiday joke.

Giveaway ends Friday, December 27th. Remember, both US & Canadian residents are eligible!

Good luck, and Happy Holidays friends!
