Winesday Wednesday: 6/5

Happy Winesday Wednesday, y’all! Sadly, I am not indulging today BUT I am going to continue writing about the good stuff.

WINESDAY

Michael posted this pic to my facebook page:

He wrote that is was a Sam Summer clone he made. Dry hopped with Hallertauer hops and infused with Lemon zest and Grains of paradise. Sounds good! Speaking of Sam Summer, Tyler and I are stil in debate over what two beers to have on tap for the wedding. We agreed one would be Bud Light to appeal to the masses, and the other is between Sam Summer and Heineken. Perhaps we will just end up going with 3 kegs.

Jon @thehoss41 (twitter) sent a pic with this appropriate hashtag: #betterthanwine. Ha! I don’t discriminate.

6.5 WW2

Katie @kepotts (twitter) had some vino on Friday! She said: “What to do with #TornadoSirens on #FridayNight? Drink #CupcakeChardonnay #winesdaywednesday” Umm yup, would’ve done the same.

6.5 WW3

Mary @marykcurran (twitter) had tweeted me a pic a LONGGGGG time ago with a malbec she enjoyed with her friend with salad and pizza. Apparently some privacy settings were active on the stupid twitter box, so I never saw them! Rest assured, that problem has been amended! Phew

6.5 WW4

Keith (http://keithsodyssey.blogspot.ca/) emailed me a pic of some Cab Sauv with the description: This was bottled July 2007, and there is only one more bottle left. It was never really one of my favourites, even though I love me a good Tempranillo. There is a Spanish one I made almost exactly the same time, and I think it is by far the better. This is just a hair thin and sharp. The other problem is that damn label. This is the hardest one to remove of any of the kits I’ve ever done. Soak in hot water to soften. Scrape it off with a tool designed to spread cement floor grout. (I live to improvise). The swab at it with a generous helping of Goo Gone. Then wash with Comet. At the end the bottle is clean, but there is still a very faint residue that sheds water slightly better than glass, so I can still tell where it was. I’ll be glad to see the last of these.

I totally had the same problem trying to get off my Massachusetts inspection sticker from my front windshield. Lots of Goo Gone, lots of scraping, and lots of filmy residue. Thanks a lot, MA for the lasting gift.

Monique Instagrammed this am-ahhhh-zing pic the other day. Love the pose and the sound of the bevvy!

For my contribution, let’s just pretend this is me (cuz I am guilty of this all.the.time. except not in public, because I hardly drink in public anymore. Le shame)

This is disheartening: nutrition labels on booze? C’mon, people! Booze is what helps me relax about that!

Have you ever seen this video clip from Funny or Die? Hahahaha I think it’s hilarious!

From my FAVORITE episode of Friends:

And one of my favorite I Love Lucy episodes:

I-Love-Lucy-Wine

(I also love the one where she gets drunk from doing multiple takes for a Vitameatavegimen)

Please please please send me your pics for #winesdaywednesday!!! (email, twitter, instagram, facebook, you name it!)

Well, it’s 4pm and I am exhausted. Just

Well, it’s 4pm and I am exhausted. Just kidding, I have about 6 more hours left in me.

I got up pretty early this AM to down a protein shake and let it digest before heading off to hot yoga. I definitely wasn’t hydrated enough because I had to lay down on three occasions. There were 38 people in the class (pretty tight) and I was conveniently located between two men. SO. Either: a.) I reeked of stank, or b.) those men did. because DAYYY-UM
dayum

Anyways, I pushed myself pretty hard and held some postures a lot longer than I thought my energy levels would let me, so I’m pretty pleased with myself for today’s practice. Still have to head over to the gym for some lower body work and cardio.

Oh hey, SIDENOTE: In case you were wondering what my prep might be for the wedding, I am only following TWO rules (since I don’t believe in deprivation or extreme, crazy diet and exercise regimes)

  1. Only have alcohol 1x a week
  2. Don’t eat past 7pm

Not too hard to follow, but I definitely think it will contribute to my overall mental and physical health & wellness…especially with yoga which is a HUGE factor in my mental health!

I also headed down to the mall today and FINALLY found a dress for the wedding rehearsal.
jesus

I just really needed to find something that was light and airy since we will be on the east coast *HELLO HUMIDITY* and for some reason, all the dresses I had come across so far were lined with so much fabric, I would have been better off with a wet towel. Or they were too short. Or they were made for people who don’t have a figure.

Also, I’d like to point out that I spend approximately 1/2 my time acknowledging EVERY associate at EVERY store. I am one of those shoppers who doesn’t want to tell you hello and doesn’t want to tell you if there’s something in particular that I’m looking for. Just let me look!!

Then, since it is the first nice day in like forever, I took the puppies to the park. Now, on top of the house smelling like pee (when it rains, Reggie pees and poos by the front door), it also smells like wet muddy dog.

Now onto those recipes I promised.

Spinach Protein Pancakes

IMG_3995

Yeah, they are REALLY good.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 3 egg whites
  • 1 banana
  • 1-2 handfuls raw spinach
  • 1 scoop protein powder (I used chocolate because I love the flavor combination with the spinach)
  • 1 cup almond flour

Here’s what you’ll do:

1. Blend the egg whites, banana, spinach and protein powder until smooth.

2. Pour mixture in a bowl, and add the almond flour. Mix until fully incorporated.

3. Pour batter (should make 8 small-medium sized pancakes) on hot, greased griddle. Flip when bubbles rise to the top of the batter.

4. Top with honey (like I did) or whatever you want.

These suckers kept me full for HOURS and I didn’t feel guilty since they were all good ingredients! No, I did not eat all 8.

******

Then, there’s the pumpkin chocolate-chip pancakes. These are my weekend pancakes because um….well, they just are.

6.4 pancakes

Pumpkin Chocolate-Chip Pancakes

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1/2 c whole wheat flour
  • 1 t baking powder
  • dash salt
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 t pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/4 c canned pumpkin
  • 1/2 T brown sugar
  • 1/2 c unsweetened almond milk
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1 tsp veg oil
  • 1/2 t vanilla
  • desired amount of chocolate chips

Here’s what you’ll do:

1. Mix all the wet ingredients in one bowl.

2. Mix all the dry ingredients in another bowl.

3. Add the dry ingredients to the wet, and mix until fully combined.

4. Pour onto large, greased hot griddle (I use this to make 4 large pancakes). Sprinkle tops with chocolate chips. Once the cakes start to fluff and bubble, flip.

And because I had a HUGH JASS can of pumpkin, I then made Pumpkin Bread. Of course, I can’t just eat plain old pumpkin bread, so I sliced it while it was still warm, topped it with chocolate protein frosting (chocolate protein powder and almond milk stirred to desired consistency) and warmed fresh cherries. Seriously good flavor combination (because my computer is now in ‘Canada’ mode, it always puts a red squiggly line under flavor and neighbor and center and a whole bunch of other words. Canadians, please don’t feel the need to correct me just because I now reside in your country..I am used to spelling them this way, so that’s how I type!)

6.4 pumpkinbread

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1 1/2 c canned pumpkin
  • 1 1/4 c whole wheat flour

  • 2 t pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/2 t cinnamon
  • dash salt
  • 2 T unsweetened apple sauce
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1 1/2 t vanilla

Here’s what you’ll do:

1. preheat oven to 350. spray loaf pan (9×5)

2. In a medium bowl, combine all the dry ingredients.

3. In a large bowl, mix the wet ingredients with a hand beater.

4. Add the dry mix to the wet mix and blend at a low speed until fully incorporated. Pour batter in loaf pan and bake for 50 minutes. Allow to cool in pan before removing.

Gotta go, the puppies are yelling at me for dinner.

Monday Moves: 6/3

It’s me again. I have been trying to upload the pics I had Tyler take for my Monday Moves (they were all upper body exercises and they were GOOD!) but for some reason, my camera decided to take its sweet time loading them to my computer- and then my camera died. Being the good blogger that I am (HA!) I wanted to have something for you guys for Monday Moves, so I decided to post the upper body workout I completed tonight at the gym.

Image

This is a pyramid workout, so you complete one rep of each move, then two reps of each move, then 3 of each…all the way up to 10 reps of each move. Once you hit 10, work your way back down the pyramid and complete 9 reps of each move, then 8 reps of each…all the way back down to one rep of each. By the time you complete the entire pyramid, you will have done 100 reps of each exercise! Not bad, huh?

Image

I’m probably going to eat my words tomorrow, but I am surprisingly not too sore from this one. I even did yoga earlier today AND used heavier weights for this! I’m thinking after a couple hours of rest, I’m going to have some sore shoulders at least..we shall see!

Hope this is something you guys will like…but please, let me know! I can do other Monday Moves posts that incorporate workouts or exercises you want to see!
