Fun things

I wish I had more fun things to post.

Like new beers I’ve tried.
Or bars I’ve gone to.

Sad face.

I need this shirt.

BUT, life goes on and there are some other fun things going on that aren’t alcohol related (how many people are shaking their head right now?)

For instance:
-Tyler and I have successfully watched 350923752309 movies on our new projector screen. It’s super awesome. The dogs love it down in our ‘new’ basement too. No pics yet as half of it is still not finished (Tyler ripped out the kitchen that was down there and we are currently in the process of deciding the design for what will take it’s place)

(Repeat photo from last post)
-I checked out Corbeaux Bakehouse with Susie last weekend. I’ve noticed a lot of hype for the new place all over social media and had to give it a shot. Bad news: there was a 2 hour wait when we got there. I was super tempted to pull the ‘but I’m pregnant and hungry’ card, but I forgot. Instead, we bought some goodies from their counter and if I have to be honest- they weren’t anything special. I’d prefer something made at home any day.

-I got my hair done a couple of weeks ago (made sure to squeeze in one last appt with my stylist before she went on mat leave) and I actually had her cut my hair. Sure, the length doesn’t look any different but HOLY CRAP did it make a world of difference in how my hair washes/dries/styles. I am a happy lady. But sad that I won’t have her do my hair for a while.

IMG_3224
-I booked my maternity/newborn photo sessions! (after 2 full days of dying over the cost of them, I finally just pulled the trigger) To my childless friends: I hear ya, this is so barfy to read. I’m guessing the hormones have got me unusually giddy.
-I made no bake cookies that had no butter, no sugar and only a quater of the pb the normal recipe calls for. And guess what? They were good! Still not the real deal, but Tyler ate a few so I know they are somewhat decent.

IMG_3329
-I DO NOT want to talk about the Super Bowl. Sad. Very sad.
-But I will talk about Super Bowl food! It was just Tyler and I (and two eager pups) so I didn’t want to make too much, but decided on wings, pulled chicken sliders and potato skins. The potato skins were my fave- next time I am totally putting more cheese on those suckers! PS: I may have also made a chocolate pie which I consumed ALL BY MYSELF…in 2 days.

IMG_3298
-Is it OK for me to say that some of my home workouts have actually been fun? I did a 1000 rep workout on Saturday night and just LOVED it. About 700 of the reps were squat related so that was even more fun about 48 hours later. I’ve also been able to hang around with the pups and Tyler while getting my workouts done which you’d THINK would be distracting, but it’s been some weird sort of motivation for me since I can’t participate in some of the advanced moves. Call it TOGETHERNESS if you will. (I did a tabata workout last night while Tyler played video games and the pups slept next to us. Cue the cheezy awwwww cute family noises. But seriously, I loved it)

-Shows I’m currently watching on the weekly: Downton Abbey, The Bachelor (barf), Kate plus 8 (double barf), My Big Fat Fabulous Life, Gold Rush, Moonshiners, Mindy Project, Blacklist, RHOBH. I’m missing a couple, but you can see I don’t discriminate on the variety.
-Not that I’m counting or anything, BUT I only have 37 more days of work before I get a WHOLE YEAR of mat leave!! (for my US friends: and I still get $$!) Man, I love Canada.
-Speaking of loving Canada, I also just found out that I’m almost eligible to apply for citizenship here. Downside of that: I also just found out it’s taking about 24 months for the government to process those applications. Upside of that: Once I obtain citizenship, we may consider a move back to the states! (Obviously that is in the way distant future. And it’s only a consideration) HELLO: I need my child to understand that he is half American. If he grows up thinking it’s ok to spell ‘favorite’ as ‘favourite’ and refer to his hat as a toque, well then I just might die. No offense.

IMG_3330
(I love it here, just not the snow. Or the $$$ to fly just to see family/friends!)
-We lucked out at Home Depot last weekend and found a can of paint on the ‘oops’ shelf (you know, when people buy paint then realize it’s not the color they want, so Home Depot takes it back and tried to resell it for way cheap?) WELL it was a gallon of Behr Marquee paint in a really pretty bluish color and we got it for $9 instead of the regular $60ish! Yay project for me to do when I have time off in a couple weeks. PS: Tyler and I now swear by this paint, so if you are in the market for a paint recommendation Behr Marquee is the way to go- it really does only take one coat to cover ANY existing color!

Any fun things you want to share? I need to add more than a Home Depot purchase and a pastry to my list. For reals.

It’s December!

It’s December and I’m super freaking happy because the next month consists of cookies and candles and food and presents and CHRISTMAS MOVIES.
xmasvacation

I’ve already burned through a ton of 3-wick candles and managed to whip up large batches of peanut butter blossoms and iced oatmeal cookies.

What have I been up to, hmmmm…..

I put on real clothes for a wedding

I did yoga at home with Layla (lately she has been stuck to me like glue and follows me wherever I go. As I type this, she is laying under my chair with her chin resting on my foot.) ALSO- my workouts have started to pick up again! I’ve added more interval training back in because I think my body- even going through this HUGE change- was getting ‘settled’ with my workouts. I have had a ton of energy and have really felt great.

photo 2-20

I bought a ton of baby crap. It’s both overwhelming and exciting. So far, we have a crib, pack n play, stroller, car seat and dresser (that my mom and I will be refinishing!)

This is also currently en route to my house:

Tyler didn’t get it at first, but I bought it as soon as I saw it because it’s hysterical. Probably because I know Spanish and he knows French. Hashtag language barrier.

Also, can we please talk about how my SON (WHOA SO WEIRD TO TYPE THAT) is going to be a dual citizen before me? No fair.

T-minus 136 days until I can refer to this chart:

My Christmas spirit animal is THIS LADY

I think 90% of my xmas shopping is online this year. Downside of this? It takes approximately 472 days for ANYTHING to ship in Canada. Oh well.

Speaking of online shopping, does anyone have any Etsy shops they recommend? I am literally obsessed

with Etsy and could buy just about everything. Please leave comments with any recommendations!!

Riddle Me This

Riddle me this, internet. WHY would it cost only $10 for me to mail something to the US and have it arrive a week later, but it costs $14 to mail the same size box within Canada- only it takes TWO weeks? Silly Canada post. 1 point to Newman.

I built another wine rack this weekend! Because you know, I’m really into wine these days. Pffff

Oooh, and I FINALLY went to a spin class this week! I originally bought a 10 class hot yoga pass to my favorite studio Hot Yoga and Spin on Crowfoot, but when I found out I was preg, I asked if I could transfer the pass to spin instead. Then I just felt like shit for 3 straight months, so I never got to go. Good news: I loved the class! I’ve actually never taken a class that requires clip-in shoes, but I found it to be WAY better than using cages. The instructor had a rockin’ playlist and attitude which really got me pumped up.

I was actually nervous the first few minutes of class because I didn’t want to get my heart rate up too much and hurt the thing in my stomach (read: baby). But I managed to keep everything at my own pace as much as I could and pushed myself a little bit. IT FELT GOOD. End of story.

PS: If anyone at work asks me ONE MORE TIME how I’m feeling I’m going to bop them on the head. (Does anyone else get annoyed by this? I get the genuine concern and all, but that doesn’t mean it’s ALL I want to talk about)

I went to a tea party last week with my Calgary pal, Susie! Good news: It was fun to hang out and try some new teas. Bad news: I found out that I can drink like ZERO of them because apparently there are SO many different things I can’t consume. Whatever, I still bought some and a really cute glass mug/steeper thingy.

Things I’ve been obsessed with lately:

-fruit by the foot/fruit roll ups (yup, stopped at Safeway after spin class and bought a few boxes. They’re gone already)

-The Good Wife. Still on season 1- only because I watch it in bed and usually fall asleep in about 5 minutes.

-the Lush Snowman Shower Jelly and their Lovely Jubblies breast cream (it was REALLY hard for me to type that B-word.) And I’m actually using that -ish all over my body since it’s basically a firming cream and it smells like heaven mixed with rainbow sprinkles and ponies and naps. (it smells good)

-I can’t stop listening to Fergie’s new song. And I can’t stop laughing about it- because if that video is supposed to rep people from LA (cough cough, where I was born and raised) should I be wearing a massive platinum braid and riding around in a bus decorated with palm trees and a giant skull? And I’m also laughing if there were ever a song about Canada Love- everyone would be drizzled in syrup with fuzzy boots and hockey pucks.

I was looking on Etsy for some new Christmas stockings and ummmmm, they’re expensive. I sent a pic of some I like to my mom and she sent me back a pic a few days later of some she made for me…FOR FREE Y’ALL.

stockings

P.S. Note the price on the top Etsy pic. And I think that’s the price for only THREE.

Ooh, and guess what? My otter box iPhone case broke a few weeks ago and I got a replacement from them for free! Pretty sweet, huh? Their website shows you what you need to submit to get a replacement under their warranty.

And I got a new dress for a wedding. It’s peplum so apparently that makes it flattering around the midsection??

Last but not least, the best photo I could get of the three of us at the river before the friggin snow and -29 degree weather kicked in:

No Elsas

You guys- prenatal massages are legit the best thing ever (minus bagels with cream cheese). I had one last week and it was SO relaxing. I went to  The Spa Ritual right by my house and had an hour massage followed by a mini nap on the heated stone chair. Oh boy, I’d do anything to go back real soon. In fact, I already booked my next appointment in a couple weeks!

massage

I’ve started to pick up the intensity of my workouts in the last couple of weeks, which is sort of a double edged sword. On one side, it feels amazing to move my body and sweat. On the other, it makes me so damn tired! (Don’t worry, I stop whenever I get too tired, I get that there’s like a CHILD to consider). But, WOO!

workout

I bought a few maternity tanks at Target when I was in the states a few weeks ago. I’m kind of kicking myself for never having bought them before I was pregnant because they are nice and long and I love them. I’m also majorly bumming that Athleta is super expensive to ship to Canada because I NEEEEED all the Breathe tops (tanks, short sleeve, long sleeve).

athleta

I made bread pudding for the first time this weekend. Let me rephrase that: I made bread pudding for the last time this weekend. The verdict? I don’t like bread pudding. Lesson learned. I do, however, know that I like cinnamon Life cereal.

yuck

I’m reading a book! Ok, well I am reading a couple books, but the non-baby related one is worth sharing:

We had ZERO Elsa’s trick or treat at our house on Friday. I thought for sure every little girl was going to show up as her. Just our luck, we only had a few kids and they were either super little babies or older boys.

letitgo

I also have about 3059723059273 full sized candy bars still in my cupboard, so THAT’s deadly.

candybars

Just when I thought home renos were over, we have started redoing our basement. Yuck and yay at the same time. I’m not looking forward to all the mess and chaos and stress (ok, who am I kidding. Tyler is doing most of it. And I have a good excuse) but I AM looking forward to having a more useable, comfortable living space!

Your turn: What’s your favorite recent purchase? (I’m on an online shopping kick)

And now I ramble

I think I’ve meant to sit down about 35823529 times to actually type a post. But then I’d either fall asleep, eat, or fall asleep again. MY B YOU GUYS.
oops
Since I posted the big BABY news a couple of weeks ago, people from various forms of social media have actually asked me to write about my experience so far. WHAT? You people want to hear about how bad my boobs hurt, that I feel like sh*t and only want to eat bagels with cream cheese? (Didn’t you already watch What to Expect When You’re Expecting?) Ok, so I don’t really want to do official updates – or, OMG, BUMPdates…puh-lease, but I guess I’ll fill you in on some of the funzies. Sidenote: I’m actually making a scrapbook of this preg to document things, so that’s cool.
First- I just wanted to recap my trip HOME last week!! Activities included:
-Going to the Adirondack Flames home opener (funny that I live in Calgary and the Calgary flames AHL team is now in my parent’s hometown)
photo 1-19
-Going to Lake George
photo 2-18
-Getting apple cider donuts
photo 3-14
-Shopping IN AMERICA. My my my, I bought so much stuff and I have ZERO retail regrets. That hardly ever happens.
-Scrabble (I won every game)
-Trip to Boston to see all of my favorites! ‘Favorites’ include a handful of humans and Trader Joe’s
-Bunco with my mom and all of her old lady friends. I won.
-Setting up Netflix for my parents. Insert approx 3 fits of rage here.
-Mexican food, pizza, sandwiches, and dinner at my FAVE spot- Bistro Leroux. Sad I didn’t have tequila, beer, or wine to pair with these.
photo-21
-SHOPPPPPPPING (said in Oprah voice)
oprah
-helping my dad relocate a skunk. Ps: we trapped it in the backyard and released it at the airport. Because that makes sense. Pps: It would make sense if you knew it was a tiny tiny tiny local airport and it was beyond the runway so I’m guessing he’s ok.
-NAPS. Oh my god, I napped so much. We would either be out walking around shopping all day or actually going for long walks and it would just totally wipe me out.
-RUNNING! I started running again after 8 weeks! Woop. Also, running is hard. Let’s just say there were a lot of walking intervals.
photo-20
-mani/pedi. She even fixed up my nasty dried feet courtesy of Calgary weather.
Ok, I’m tired now. Let’s talk about my knocked up status, shall we?!
First off, I officially don’t care about what the hell I’m eating. Ok, that’s a lie. I DO care, but hot DAMN I crave absolutely zero things except carby carby goodness. And OJ. And fruit. And then there was a gummy worm incident… And guess what? I’m so freaking happy. I love food and food loves me. More specifically, my ass. But let’s not get into that.
photo-22
I’m just gonna say one word and then we’re all gonna pause and laugh, ok? The word: workouts.
 200
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Um, no.
For a while, I was only walking and stretching. Then I added in some DVDs- yoga/Tracy Anderson. Then strength was thrown back into the mix. But I mean, there is almost zero intensity. And guess what? Just like the food situation..I’m so freaking happy. I make sure I move, and when I’m tired I stop. And stretching is a god send for those days when I put gym clothes on and my body’s all: ohhhh HELLLLL NO.
 tumblr_inline_n7osbqZ5kV1rbumi6
Things I can now attest as true:
Pregnancy brain. Yup, I am officially stupid.
Mood Swings. Or as Jenny McCarthy referred to is as: psycho chick? Yeah….poor Tyler.
psycho
This last one might throw you for a loop, but holy moly are weekend mornings glorious when I no longer wake up hungover! Just gimme a bagel and I’ll be happy as a clam.
So far, I have only purchased one baby-thing: a diaper bag. And let’s be honest, it’s really for ME and not the BABY. It’s a pretty slick Petunia Pickle Bottom piece that I can’t wait to make Tyler carry.
 petunia
-These headaches are the devil! I think they’re made even worse with the stupid lighting at my office and all I want to do is Stevie Wonder it up with a cool pair of shades just to be able to look at my computer screen.
-I can only sleep on my right side which is really annoying. Sometimes, when I’m sneaking in some episodes of Scandal (yes, I started it and yes, I’m hooked) under the sheets, I try to lay on my left and about 2 mins into it my body hates me. Like hates me a lot.
Time to go eat a bagel. Or nap. Or stretch.
