Sharing {is caring} Workouts

Thought I’d share some workout stuff today.

I already posted the workouts I did while in Vegas last week, but I just wanted to elaborate a bit. I know there are billions of posts out there sharing information on how to squeeze in some fitness when you’re on vacation and I’m not about to get all lecture-y on the basics you probably already know. But I DO want to share on how I actually squeezed in a few sweat sessions without my family feeling like I was choosing fitness over family time.

1.I did a deck of cards workout. Each suit was for PUSHUPS, SITUPS, JUMP SQUATS, & 180 SQUAT JUMPS. Best part: My mom was the designated card flipper and announcer. Ok, maybe not the best part, since she was a bit more invested in her glass of wine, but at least she tried. Tyler and my Dad were also in attendance as we were all in the backyard by the pool and soaking up some sun!
*note: I was very close to the edge of the pool when I was doing my situps and almost backed right over the edge. Probably would have been the funniest thing ever.

2.My aunt & uncle live on a golf course, and the community has a great walking path that allows you to walk a 2.3 mile circle around a portion of the course/houses. My dad and I left the house together, me going left and him going right. As soon as I met up with him (me running, him walking) he turned around to follow me back. Once I circled around and got back to the house, I turned around again to run back to where my dad was. Confusing to explain; fun to not be alone during a workout.

3.Hiked Red Rock Canyon. Obviously I wasn’t alone. We climbed a significant amount, but my lungs are now so used to Calgary’s altitude, the this particular hike didn’t feel super challenging. In order to take it up a notch, I opted to take the more difficult or rocky paths so I could get a little more glute action.

Sunday: Ok, this workout was done solo, so nevermind.

Since getting back from vacay last Tuesday morning, I have managed some pretty great workouts as well!

Supersets! 3 rounds of each pair w/heavier weights/higher resistance each round: Lat pulldown, bench press; lower than parallel barbell squat, Barbell deadlift, reverse cable crunch, weighted oblique dips. 20 minutes of spin.

BV Flow Hot Yoga she TOTALLY changed up the sequence and just when I thought it was going to be one of those slow and steady classes, it was a total burn and I was [happily] dead by the end.

Ok, I’m done sharing now. Have any awesome workouts to share? I’m always looking for new stuff!!!

Ps: sorry this post is whack, I’m posting from my phone. Womp womp.

Latests 11/21

Yay, it’s Thursday again! (not as great as Friday, from a work aspect, but quickly becoming my favorite blog-day of the week. WAIT. NO. I love Winesday Wednesday, too. AH MAN, this is a dilemma.)
I really do love sharing stuff I’ve come across lately- whether it’s crap I buy, do, see, yadda yadda (‘yadda yadda’ NOT being used as a verb here, English Majors). And I’ve got some more cool stuff to share with you this week!
1. So I cut my hair this weekend. 6 inches to be exact. Only 2 people have noticed. 6 inches is a LOT (that’s what she DIDN’T say! oooooooooo snap) But my hair was pretty dang long, so I guess it didn’t make that much of an impact. Of course, at the end of my appointment I was suckered in to buying a Christmas gift set of some pretty nice products. Womp goes the wallet. It’s totally getting wrapped and put under the tree for myself.

This isn’t the exact set I got, but it looks pretty similar!
2. Gastropost! So this is a pretty neat website- they set weekly food ‘missions’ for people to snap photos of foods/meals that meet the particular mission and post then on social media using their hashtag. Some of the best are taken and put in the local paper! Apparently this has been going on in other big cities in Canada and it was just launched in Calgary this week. In fact, I was contacted by the lovely lady who is running this shindig to see if I wanted to be a part of it. UM OF COURSE. I take way too many pictures of my food- and now I can get in the paper for it! Sweet and yummy deal right there.

3. A couple of weeks ago, I kinda slammed Lady Gaga’s lastest album. I’m still not loving the majority of the tracks, but after watching her on SNL, I’m sort of obsessed with this song. And the outfit she wore performing the song. It’s been stuck in my head ALL week and I know I’m probably scaring Tyler with random fits of screaming ‘DO WHATCHA WANT, WHATCHA WANT WITH MY BODY.”

4. I didn’t post about this because I was going to wait until I actually bought it, but now that I know it’s sold out I will proceed to RANT about how upset I am at myself for not purchasing it the DAY it came out: Benefit’s Advent Calendar. Ugh, I would NOT stop talking about it for weeks, and when Tyler actually tried to go get it for me and suprise me with it, he was told it’s sold out everywhere. Insert a night full of tears. Then insert an email I got about THE TWELVE DAYS OF ESSIE. Nail polish, my friends, is AMAZING. I am addicted (remember I went to SEVEN different drug stores to find For the Twill of It?!). In attempts to get me to shut up from my Benefit FOMO, he offered to buy me the Essie gift set. SO I ORDERED IT BEFORE HE COULD FINISH HIS SENTENCE. It gets shipped the first week of December. And I’m so excited. And it’s only available in Canada, so SUCK IT AMERICA. (no no, America, I’m totally kidding. I love you and your Trader Joes and In-n-Outs and lower taxes and amusement parks and Bravo network).

5. I really love creating my own workouts (this is where I puff my chest and boast about being a group ex instructor and all that jazz. But not jazzercise.) but every once in a while- since I no longer take any group ex classes, I love to rely on other people’s workouts. The past two weeks, I happened to do just that. Below are links to some of the workouts I’ve tried- and really liked!
6. The Chimes Ginger Chews– I’ve seen these all over instgram and the internet, and never gave them any thought because, YUCK I don’t like ginger. But, I needed to make change for a $20 the other day, and opted to buy a small pack of their orange flavored- chews. They were actually kind interesting…in a good way. The chews has good flavor at first, then they had a big KICK of spice. And since I’ve been somewhat of a spice whore as of late, I accidentally ate the whole pack.

That’s it for this week, what are some of your latests?!!

AMRAP workout

Quick check-in here. Hopefully this one is a little better received than my last one…which I thought was pretty dang funny. Ah well, you win some you lose some.

Gotta be quick since it’s after 10pm and this is the first time I’m sitting down to relax and HOLY CRAP I need my sleep.

Saturday, I headed to the gym without a game plan. I actually thought on my toes and came up with something I thought was pretty good (followed by 20 minutes of spin!)

10.15 gym

Do as many reps as possible for each exercise before moving to the next (for moves like single leg squats, perform as many on one side then as many on the other before moving on). Do it 2-3 times through depending on what you want!

Night!

I slept!

Image

I slept through the whole night last night. Tears of joy people, tears of joy. UNTIL, the big dog decided to wake up at 5:30 and whine until I got up to feed her. Snob.

Not much going on today (and yet, where did the time go?)

Lunch was enjoyed on the picnic table right outside my office. Um yes, this is my new favorite flavor of kombucha. Also, I opted for just veggies with hummus at lunch today because my previous lunches were really upsetting my stomach- more so for the reason that I was eating the meal and sitting all day. If I were moving around, the meal would settle a lot better.

Took an alternate route home (still figuring out which is the best on certain days/times of the week). Who would’ve thought it was faster to drive THROUGH downtown? Crazy, I tell you.

Last night, I was signed up for a 7:45 yoga class, but when I got to the parking lot, I saw that over half of the lot was closed off for paving- they’ve been working on this lot for over a year, I swear. There was absolutely nowhere for me to park, so I drove back home. And obviously cried, because I get REALLY frustrated when my workouts are interrupted. After sitting at home and pouting for about an hour, I headed over to the gym and busted through some circuits and HIIT on the bike. I was grumpy throughout the whole thing and almost cried again when I got home.

Lame, I know, but working out is my thing and I hate when/if it’s taken away from me.

Tonight, I’m heading back over for a later class, so I hope I’ll be able to find some parking. I’m also planning on a pyramid workout/outdoor run early tomorrow morning. I don’t have to go into work until noon since I’ll be staying late into the evening with some training at work.

Here’s the pyramid workout I’m planning on. (Performing one rep of each move, then 2, 3…up to 10 of each, then coming back down to 1)

8.28 workout

Now that you know every nook and cranny of my day, I’mma get outta here.

HEY, GUESS WHAT? I want to be able to post every day now. I think it’s helping me keep a little bit of my sanity. BUT I need to know what YOU want to read from me? Suggestions on topics, or maybe even a weekly recurring post? Let me know! (Keeping my dinners in one post already)

Dont forget to go like my facebook page. Still need a ton more likes before I hit 200 so I can host a giveaway!!!

Two Things

Hey there. Just a couple things to share today. There should be a lot more on the blog later this week as I have a couple of different hikes planned…which I’m totally excited about.

First up, COOKIES. I’m a huge fan of them and whenever I want something sweet around the house, a big batch of chocolate chip cookies is usually my go-to. Partially because I can eat the dough and cookies don’t take that long to bake. Well, lately, I have been using this recipe. Except I have never included the corn starch since I never had any in the house and none of my previous recipes included it in the list of ingredients, so I figured it wouldn’t hurt to skip. And trust me, it didn’t. Tyler and I managed to force feed ourselves about 2 dozen different batches without the corn starch and we’re still alive and kicking.

But yesterday I went to the store and mindfully purchased a canister of corn starch to see just how different the batch would turn out. And yup….they’re chewy motherfluffers. Like SOOOO good.

Please go make them.

Second: My daily workouts have consisted of Hot Yoga and either an outdoor run or intervals on the treadmill. It’s been working wonders for my body and I totally love it. It has been over a week since I did any strength training- which is totally weird for me- but I will probably incorporate it back into the old routine sooner or later. I find that my muscles are getting a pretty good workout in yoga. Especially with all those chaturangas!

Anyhoo..I did a pretty decent set of HIIT intervals yesterday that I thought I’d share with you. It was pretty easy and went by FAST. (I didn’t want to totally overdo it before yoga, but I also wanted to break a sweat and make sure I was torching some serious calories, which HIIT totally does.)

The left columns are the time and the right columns are the treadmill speed. You can obviously change the speeds to tailor your specific needs, but you get the idea how the intervals get progressively faster, then slower, then faster again. I loved it, and I felt nice and limber heading into yoga later in the evening.

If anyone gives this a go, let me know!
