Playing Catch Up

Hey friends, happy Thursday! Thought I’d check in and catch you up on what we’ve been up to lately. To be honest, I have been super busy + Wes has been super cranky + I sorta lost my writing mojo. I really need to not let social media get to me…I get stuck comparing myself to others and when I don’t think my presence (i.e.: this blog) isn’t as great as others, then I get super let down.

Ok ok, let’s not be all negative nancy here. So here’s what we’ve been doing…

Friday: pancakes. because…..FRIDAY.IMG_5553

I finally got the finishing touches done on some bibdanas my mom made and had Wes try one on for size. Perfect! PS: We are open for hire if anyone wants to buy any 😉

An unexpectedly long nap means mama makes congo bars. So delicious. Also, so deadly on the hips.

Afternoon bathies!

Pre “work” dinner and snuggles with my I SCREAM baby.

I judged a Specialty category at Beerfest (more on that next Wednesday!)

Saturday: Morning park time with Wes

I WORKED the Brewster’s tent at Beerfest. It was a long shift (2-10pm), but we were given breaks to wander around the different halls to check out some of the other beer and food that was offered.

Sunday: I didn’t really get a Mother’s Day (at first, I was A-OK with it, but towards the end of the day, I was super sad about it, especially after seeing all the mother’s day crap on Facebook…eek) but in a sense, I was ‘gifted’ some me-time which came in the form of going on the Calgary Brewery Tours Spirit of Alberta Tour (Again, more on this next Wednesday)

I was gone from about 10:30-7pm and came home to whip up a super quick dinner.

Monday/Tuesday: These days don’t really count. I was a terrible combination of sad, mad, tired, you name it. Not much happened besides some walks, workouts, and baking cookies.

These are a few of my favorite things. Shakeology is a great restart for me especially after a long weekend that includes alcohol, and these chocolate chip cookies just plain ol’ make me happy as a pig in mud.

I worked Tuesday night and made a decent amount of money, so that’s a great way to end the day I suppose!

Wednesday: I now gotta have pancakes 2x a week because they’re so dang good. It’s a crying shame that Wes has taken a liking to them too, because he steals at least two off my plate each time.

^Some diaper bag favorites: Bubbles & Balms Butt Butter; Pure Haven Essentials Boo Boo Stick <–this is the link to my friend’s consultant site. She is a rep for the company (which is currently only operating in the US, so US friends please check it out!); Love Child Organics Oaty Chomps

This kid has been rip-roaring through everything in his room lately. It’s like he’s a tornado and destroys everything in his path! Last week, he had a penchant for throwing all the diapers and now he’s into dumping  my diaper bag.

I threw together a healthy chicken zucchini casserole and it was delicious. Of course mine didn’t turn out as pretty as the one from the recipe I used, but no flavor points were deducted.

IMG_5746

Tyler and I sipped the remainder of a bottle of mead I purchased from the tour I went on on Sunday. It wasn’t much haha

Marinara sauce brings out the biggest of smiles from him. (Same goes with farts).

So there you have it, folks!

From the Week

TGIF for reals. I love Fridays so much. Just a few random things to share from the week..

Eats: We had some pretty decent dinners this week. Turkey meatballs, bbq pulled chicken sandwiches, roasted pork loin, and shepherds pie. Not too shabby. Plus, it allowed me to use a lot of the stuff we already had on hand. The more I can stretch a dollar..

I threw some spinach in my protein pancakes on Wednesday and it didn’t disappoint. I can’t wait to have them again!

IMG_2946

I also made a batch of chocolate chip cookies and have been secretly waiting for ‘dessert time’ every day because…chocolate chip cookies.

Another one of my Sticky9 orders came in the mail and I was really excited to go through them. The quality isn’t 100% super on the photos themselves, but the little square cards are so cute and they make for great decorations. Wes loves seeing them up around the house and giggles when he notices any photo that he’s in.

IMG_2912

I picked up a forward facing carrier off kijiji for $5 and Wes JUST fits in it, but we wanted to see if having him in a carrier that faces out might help free our hands and allow him to look around. Because it’s a bit too snug, I’ll only be using it around the house. He seemed to really love it! But pulling him out of it is a task in itself 🙂

IMG_2929

We also walked over to the library to pick up some new books. I had to take a picture of the one Wes loves best in case I ever need to buy it or something. I’ll miss his giggles each time I get to the last page.

Since the weather has been so nice, just about all of our errands this week have been on foot! I love getting Wes out in the fresh air.

IMG_2962

Other than that, we’ve been just hanging around and being silly together. His naps have been all over the place, but I’ve managed to squeeze in my workouts each day + take the dogs on nice walks once Tyler gets home (loving that the walks are during the tail end of daylight, too!).

PS: I’m on snapchat now! I didn’t understand it for the longest time, but I think I’m finally getting the hang of it. Add me! (please?)

That’s pretty much it on our end. Weekend plans include a trip to Costco and family time (hopefully some of it outdoors!)

Two Things

Hey there. Just a couple things to share today. There should be a lot more on the blog later this week as I have a couple of different hikes planned…which I’m totally excited about.

First up, COOKIES. I’m a huge fan of them and whenever I want something sweet around the house, a big batch of chocolate chip cookies is usually my go-to. Partially because I can eat the dough and cookies don’t take that long to bake. Well, lately, I have been using this recipe. Except I have never included the corn starch since I never had any in the house and none of my previous recipes included it in the list of ingredients, so I figured it wouldn’t hurt to skip. And trust me, it didn’t. Tyler and I managed to force feed ourselves about 2 dozen different batches without the corn starch and we’re still alive and kicking.

But yesterday I went to the store and mindfully purchased a canister of corn starch to see just how different the batch would turn out. And yup….they’re chewy motherfluffers. Like SOOOO good.

Please go make them.

Second: My daily workouts have consisted of Hot Yoga and either an outdoor run or intervals on the treadmill. It’s been working wonders for my body and I totally love it. It has been over a week since I did any strength training- which is totally weird for me- but I will probably incorporate it back into the old routine sooner or later. I find that my muscles are getting a pretty good workout in yoga. Especially with all those chaturangas!

Anyhoo..I did a pretty decent set of HIIT intervals yesterday that I thought I’d share with you. It was pretty easy and went by FAST. (I didn’t want to totally overdo it before yoga, but I also wanted to break a sweat and make sure I was torching some serious calories, which HIIT totally does.)

The left columns are the time and the right columns are the treadmill speed. You can obviously change the speeds to tailor your specific needs, but you get the idea how the intervals get progressively faster, then slower, then faster again. I loved it, and I felt nice and limber heading into yoga later in the evening.

If anyone gives this a go, let me know!
