I haven’t really posted anything in a while because a.) I have little to share, and b.) I’m kinda into this whole ‘being private’ thing lately. <–I've just come to realize that this is a public space on the Internet and there are some people out there that just don't need to know about me!!
Plus, it takes a long time to sit down and think of creative things to talk about. I'm using the word 'creative' VERY loosely here.
Plus plus, work has been INSANE since about May, and I've been absolutely dead between 9 hours at the office, a month of house guests, and a chocolate lab that has taken to barking when she doesn't get her LONG walk after dinner.
I have a headache just thinking about it!
Maybe one day in the near future I will sit down and ramble, but I just don't see it happening right now because I'm really liking nap. And Suits.
If you want, leave me a message about anything you'd potentially like me to share (ps: don't say the new kitchen because although it is fully functioning, it is not fully complete!!)
…ooh, maybe this little check in sparked my interest in writing again?? Funny how that happens…
Hi there! How are you? I sure do wish we had another 3 day weekend. Working 5 days in a row is HARD.
Recapping stuff from the past week (or so):
Hot yoga: I haven’t gone in over 5 months and I returned by taking a BV class. And did an upper body workout the next day. Umm, bad idea. I couldn’t use my arms for the rest of the week because they were so sore. I was this close to having Tyler help me wash my hair a couple of times.
Hiking: Susie and I hiked Ha Ling in Canmore on Saturday. Crazy part is: I thought I would be massively sore from the serious incline of the hike…but I wasn’t! How was a hot yoga class more painful than a hike that lasted a couple hours? Who knows, I won’t question it. Other cool things about the hike: yelling “HEY BEAR’ instead of carrying bear spray–> even though it’s a heavily trafficked path, YOU NEVER KNOW. Also, I needed to bring more water. Also, big horn sheep have big balls (I think they should have an interchangable name: big horn sheep/big balled sheep). Also, beer and nachos at Grizzly Paw afterwards is a GREAT way to refuel. One more thing: charge your phone before you climb a mountain. That way you can upload more pics to facebook. Because everyone knows it’s priority to facebook what you do rather than actually ENJOYING THE MOMENT. I’m being half sarcastic/half serious here.
Sangaritas: omygod do it. Mix 1/2 sangria, 1/2 marg mix and tequila and BOOM. Instant happiness.
Beagles and water don’t mix: This one just makes me sad. We took the pups to the river on Sunday and there are so many people with their dogs. All of them go in except for the damn beagles. Seriously, I saw other beagles/beagle owners standing on the shore watching as other dogs cool off and splash around. I tried picking Reggie up and putting his feet in the water a bit, but I’m pretty sure a part of his soul died when that happened. So we brought the water to him.
Hair: I put blonde back in! Phew, I feel 102491824x better. I don’t know what the heck I was thinking by making my hair gradually darker. It just doesn’t suit me. Although I almost wish it did because it would be WAY less expensive to maintain.
Highlight: I booked a flight home to New York for a week in October! I’m also planning a road trip to Boston for a day or two. The older I get, the more excited I am to fly home. And have mom wash my bras and make me food.
Oh hey there, internet strangers. I almost didn’t want to come back from my one month hiatus, but my iPhone sent me this stupid reminder saying I should probably post something. Boo. (just follow me on Instagram, it’s WAY easier 😉 )
But if you must know the goings-on over here the past few weeks, here’s a summary:
STAMPEDE: Oh my gosh, it was so fun this year. We went to the rodeo, the grandstand, AND I won VIP tickets to the chuckwagon tent where my friend Susie and I indulged in all you can eat/drink/pet (the horses, not each other). I wore boots and drank Bud and split a fried snickers with my mom at one point.
GUESTS: Tyler’s mom and my parents came to stay with us. It was a packed house for the week we were all together, so the staggered parts of the visits were a little bit more sane. Lots of food, wine, and sightseeing type things.
MY BIRTHDAY: I ate poutine.
MANICURE: Got my first shellac and now I’m sold. Only crappy part is that it’s $$. Still a nice little splurge, and I’ve figured out how to cut elsewhere to make this happen.
HONEYMOON: Meh, I guess a roadtrip 2.5 years after you get married isn’t really a honeymoon, but whatever. We took the Mustang on a 12 hours ride through BC to Seattle, then rounded back to Kelowna, BC before heading home. Highlights include:
Beer (holy crap, Seattle has a ton of breweries. And even more holy crap, they’re all so dang HOPPY. I got so many tummy aches from trying so many. Tip: Take the Road Dog Tour if you’re in town.
Seattle Aquarium. Best part: Fur seal scratching his ass for a good 20+ minutes. We watched the entire time. Worst part: not a single sting ray or shark or whale or dolphin.
Seattle Duck Tour: Learned a bit about the history of the city.
Mariners game: Can’t beat a baseball game with $11 tickets.
Public Market: we bought cherries and hot sauce, so….WINNING.
Wine tour via Uncorked in Kelowna: loved the wineries and the WINE, but the driver from the tour guide company was terrible. One of our stops was at a vineyard that won the award for the best white wine IN THE WORLD. So obviously we bought 2 bottles
WHOA. Too many couple pictures. But……#PROOF.We also managed to duck 2 fatal accidents on the BC roads, saw a bear and a bunch of baby Big Horn Sheep.
Hmmmm… what else? Oh yeah, discovered Calgary radio stations are crap and play the same 5 or 6 songs on repeat all the time and managed to finally throw together a new playlist:
Oh man, there is just so much to share now that I’m getting into it. I probably should’ve kept notes because I know I’m totally forgetting about 50% of the last month.
We bottled our wine! 60 bottles….and it’s like….half gone. Ok, ALMOST half gone. Sangria and pinot grigio. PS: everyone come to my house for a drink!
That’s it for now. See you next time (hopefully sooner than a month!)
I’m exhausted. Earned myself a sunburn yesterday taking the pups for a walk. Is it just me or do sunburns make you infinitely more tired then you already are? Work today was a bit stressful and I somehow managed to squeeze in an hour on the stair climber during my lunch, take the dogs for another 3.5 miler after dinner and now I’m taking a breather before busting through tonight’s T25 workout.
I sound bummed but I’m totally not. I love expending my energy! Although, my right knee has been bugging me a bit..
Things lately:
…I bought a bikini! Totally didn’t mean to- I originally went out on a mission to buy end tables, but somehow found myself in a suit shop and actually liking what I was trying on. $113 later (ugh, that makes me sick but I LOVE this suit!)
…I ran downtown! I hadn’t yet ventured outside for my lunch time workouts, but decided to last week since the weather was PERFECT. I think I ate about 3 dozen bugs though. I did manage to run those stairs 3 times in a row before heading back to the office and proceeding to sweat at the desk the rest of the afternoon (each set was 165 steps!)
…I have been listening to music when I get ready in the morning. That’s not super exiting; I used to all the time when I lived in Boston, but after a 17 month working hiatus after moving to Canada, I kind of forgot how jazzed up it got me. Even on Monday mornings. My favorite songs lately:
We Are One- Pitbull
Wiggle- Jason Derulo (omg why do I love this song so much?!! I have been singing it non stop around the house and I’m confident my neighbors have heard me yell out “You know what to do with that big fat butt”)
…drank wine! DUH. The one of the right is my new fave- it is SO smooth. Our liquor store has it on sale this week and I’ve already gone back to get a couple extra bottles.
…celebrated Canada Day! Layla was way more enthused, you just can’t tell.
…baked a cake! I know I only have a week until my mom gets here to bake my birthday cake, but I had it on my mind so it had to be done. And I didn’t even wait for it to cool 5 minutes before cutting out a chunk and slathering it with icing.
I was cleaning out the closet not too long ago and found my beloved heels. And you know what? I haven’t worn them in SO LONG they’ve managed to collect about an inch of dust. Tear. Note to self: go out dancing with those puppies soon.
…the Stampede starts this week! I have my cowboy boots out and ready. I have to pay homage to the Stampede since it’s how I met Tyler (everyone in Calgary snickers when I tell them that’s how I met my husband because it’s better known as a big drunk fest. Which it was when I met him. But I managed to stay sober and cute enough to get him to call me. Win)
What have you been up to? I’ve been doing a lot AND nothing at all lately.
The weeks have been FLYING by- work has been crazy busy and I’ve been cramming my weekdays to basically look like this: work; workout at lunch; work; dinner; walk dogs; do T25 workout; sleep. And lots of house stuff mixed in between. T minus a couple weeks before we have a full house and we are still aiming at finishing the kitchen! That shit cray.
Currently:
See that? It’s a real bed. With sheets and pillows and fancy guest towels. Come and stay at my house, I now have a place for you to stay. And yes, that is me RIGHT.NOW. See how wiped I look? That’s the norm now. I actually ran out of makeup a little over a month ago and haven’t bothered to replenish my stash. It’s pretty much some stale (is that what you call it?) mascara and a bit of a highlighter pencil.
You know what other grown up things I’ve been doing? Weed whacking. And mowing. I felt pretty damn badass tackling our jungle of a neglected backyard yesterday until I had a small realization that there was a strong chance it wasn’t just bits of grass pelting into my face and that there might’ve been poop in there too since I haven’t picked any up in a while.
Run on sentence for the win.
And then: I cut contact paper for the kitchen shelves and drawers.
To counter all this adultness, I’ve been randomly breaking into song and dance about butts and playing with the dogs.
Balance.
(ugh. I just googled ‘balance’ on the off-chance of inserting a funny balance meme and google images showed me a penis. I don’t get it)
Thinking of trying T25? I recommend it. Why? Because I have been drinking beer and doing these workout and bam: abs. Insert shameless abbie (selfie of my abs?) here. I made sure not to use the one that had a serious headlight issue, if you know what I mean.
Can we talk about how awesome and diverse Netflix is? Last week, I was on a serious binge of lesbionic Orange Is The New Black, then watched Craigslist Joe and followed it up with a docu-series on Russell Peters. What the what? I like it. I feel so cultured.
My dogs are good if you were wondering. Layla has lost a ton of weight. But she still refuses to eat her breakfast unless you sprinkle cheerios over her food. I took them for a 4.5 mile walk around the community this weekend, only to return to a locked house and no one home. So I took them through the back gate and sat in the pool with Layla for a bit. Then followed her to the patio to dry off.
I am obsessed with these two songs lately. They’re on repeat until my ears bleed.
I really want to get a group of friends together and dress and dance just like that. ^ I’m not even close to joking.
I had a smoothie with cauliflower in it. Yup, do it. So good.
Guess what? It’s 2 weeks until my birthday! I probably won’t have a party, but I definitely think cake will be had for breakfast. Oh my god I’m going to be so old. Almost 30 and my major claim to fame is moving to Canada. Must do more life-changing things, stat.
