Tidbits from the last week or so

Let me start off by saying Hi. It’s been a while, I know. We were in NY from July 3-10, had a TERRIBLE overnight layover in Chicago, and have been dealing with a medical problem with Layla ever since we got home. So, not too much time or desire for me to really sit at the computer and blog away.

Second, this isn’t a wedding post. There will be one, but I really want to wait for the sneak peek shots from our photographer. And I obviously have no photos since I was mostly in other people’s photos and I don’t wait to steal theirs! So, if you’re DYING to see pics, you can check out Athena’s post on my wedding. Until then, sit tight.

Some thoughts over the past week or so:

-I am really good at falling asleep on planes. Tyler, not so much. Therefore, I bought him a beer in Chicago while we waited for our second flight.

-I FOUND MY FAVORITE BEER EVER at one of the local beverage stores in my parent’s hometown.

Image-I FINALLY bought new sneaks. I hadn’t bought a pair since Feb 2012 and desperately wanted/needed a new pair by Oct/Nov last year, but couldn’t fathom paying these stupid Canadian prices. On the 4th, Tyler and I drove down to Albany and indulged in quite a few purchases with American price tags. Aka: my haven.

-Speaking of sneaks, I managed to get in some good *SWEATY* workouts while we were in NY. I packed my TRX in my suitcase and was able to incorporate that in 2 of my home workouts, did another countdown workout (on the back 3-season room where the AC was off but I was at least in the shade pre-wedding and didn’t have to worry about getting tan lines) and a SWEET circuit workout at the hotel gym on the morning of the wedding (I got up at 6:30am to get a much wanted workout before it all started!).

-And now speaking of workouts, there were obviously a couple of days I didn’t workout while we were there, but I didn’t entirely mind. Because, umm duhhhhhh, it was my wedding week! I indulged in what I wanted (see: Sutton’s Apple Dumplings, Frozen Dreams soft serve, BEER..) And guess what? some of this was BEFORE I put that dress on. The very dress that I had my final fitting in January for. And I FIT IN IT. Hallelujah.  I don’t weigh myself anymore, but I left NY feeling no different about my body than I did before we went. WHICH IS PRETTY DANG AWESOME. 

-We went to Crandall Park in Glens Falls to listen to the Orchestra and watch fireworks. And drink beer.

This was one of the days I managed to get in a workout and got done just before we left for the park. Hence no makeup/looking somewhat human.

-Our rehearsal dinner was YUMMMMMMMMY and well worth the pretty penny it cost. (More on that in a different post, I’m just trying to post tidbits here today!)

-My hotel suite for Fri/Sat night was TWO FLOORS. And pretty awesome. Minus the spotty wi-fi that I so desperately wanted so that I could use my phone!

-The girls surprised me with a sweet morning oh breakfast/manis/pedis. And mimosas. Lots of mimosas. I’m pretty sure my bridesmaid, Katie was the life of that morning. She had us in stitches the whole time. Oh, and they all got me gifts….totally didn’t see that nice little surprise coming! Thanks girls! (And mom, and Ingrid and Aunt Marion!!)

-I’m 100% certain my photographer caught some images of me naked while my Mom and Matron of Honor were trying to get that dress up my body. I think those are going to be the funniest photos and I really want to blow one up and put in my office. For no other purpose than for shock and awe to future houseguests.

-I ate approximately 2 bites of my meal that night because I was busy talking to EVERYONE, busy DRINKING, busy DANCING, and busy DOING PUSHUPS.

-We played a LOT of Dominos post-wedding weekend. Mainly because it was the easiest thing to entertain ourselves while drinking at home.

-In addition to the above point, my dad yanked their ENTIRE cable package for the house, so we had no option of watching TV other than local cable channels. Which consisted of horse races, a continuously running commercial for a local jewelry store, and a never-ending CSI:Miami marathon.

-Layovers due to United Airlines SUCKING at O’Hare will result in an overnight stay at Super 8 (which wasn’t even complimentary), waiting for a shuttle to said motel, having the shuttle put a PILOT in the trunk so he wouldn’t have to wait for the next shuttle, and having to order pizza at 1am since we had not eaten in over 14 hours. Oh, and wearing the same clothes for over 24 hours sans toothbrush or deodorant. Needless to say, Tyler and I had an unspoken agreement not to makeout that next day.

-Of course the rescheduled flight the next day would consist of a women hacking a lung the entire flight, and the rest of the occupants being TEN YEAR OLDS. And the most hyper one sat behind me. His judo chops and kicks are NOT comparable to massage chairs.

-I’m pretty sure if you’re a cab driver, you should have remote knowledge of the area where you drive. The guy we got stuck with once we landed in Calgary took us for a bit of a ride. The end.

-I am REALLY sad that week is over. It was WAY too much fun and 10000000000 times better than I thought it would be while I was planning it.

-Fake eyelashes are THE SHIT.

-Tyler was destined to be a part of the family as far as my mom is concerned. They share a love for margaritas. Especially the ones I make.

Let’s rewind.

I somehow how a little time before getting food ready for the big game that I have decided to catch up on my recent things on these here blog.

I somewhat touched base as I was sitting in the Albany airport, but that doesn’t really count. Let’s rewind to Wednesday night…

Ok, so Wednesday night (my last night in New York) I got dressed after the workout I did at home and headed out to dinner at my FAVORITE local restaurant with mom and dad.

Dinner was at Bistro LeRoux. I seriously cannot praise this place enough. The food, atmosphere and service are all so fantastic. I ended up having Chateau Ste Michelle Riesling, 1/2 order of crab cakes, 1/2 order of poached pear salad with steak, and a lava cake with peanut butter ice cream. I’m not really good at writing about my full experience, but let’s just say that I was ‘mmm-ing’ with every bite. Ahhhh, so good! I can’t wait for my next visit home so I can go there again 🙂

As I was packing later that night, I came across my high school prom dresses. Feel free to laugh at how ugly they are!

That really concludes my trip home. Although, I did manage to wake up at O-dark-thirty on Thursday morning to get in a 40 minute run on the treadmill. I watched a Jillian Michaels infomercial to keep me motivated.

My trip home was a long one. Having a layover in Chicago in the middle of winter is practically a death sentence. My first plane was 45 minutes late, but made good time getting into O’hare. I chilled out for what was supposed to be only a 2 hour layover and had me one of these suckers:

I also had a steak salad, but didn’t take a picture because I was hungry and ate it. Duh.

I then walked all over the terminal not only for exercise, but also because the incoming plane for my gate was super delayed (I was also on the prowl for some good chocolate).

Well, I didn’t fin the chocolate that I wanted, but I ended up settling with a bag of these:

I also managed to take advantage of the DUTY FREE shop! I have never done that before, so it was an interesting experience.

I made my purchase, showed them my boarding pass and ID, then got a receipt with a pick-up tag. The attendant would then meet me at my gate and hand me my purchase as I was boarding the plane. Nothing like being able to carry a big ass bottle of Grey Goose on a plane!

A few hours later, I was home and reunited with my puppy!

And now begins the dog pictures. You have been warned.

Tyler and I enjoyed the first bottle of home brewed wine (It was REALLY good!) and watched the first two episodes of The Following (also REALLY good!) The show was intense.

Friday, I was left at home to get back into my routine. The morning was filled with lounging, house-things, and puppy cuddles.

My workout was the Endurance workout from Best Body Bootcamp (supersets of exercises to be repeated until you reach 100- same as last Friday). I busted them out as I watched recorded episodes of The Mindy Project. After I ran out of episodes- and finished my strength workout- I headed over to the gym for a sweaty 14 miles on the bike. I really missed the Keiser bikes while I was in New York. Oh right, and Layla joined in on my strength stuff. Forgot to mention that.

She was so excited to see me put my coat and shoes on to go to the gym, that I felt bad and ended up taking her for a walk as soon as I got home. She was kinda rude about it, but whatever.

Apparently I didn’t take her on as good of a walk as Tyler has been doing the last few weeks, so as soon as he got home, she was all over him. Traitor.

We rounded out the night with tacos and watched Flight (so glad I waited until after my trip to watch that movie!)

On to Saturday. Bacon and eggs for breakfast. YUM. And lots of coffee. YUMMx2. Then errands. 

One of our stops was the mall so that I could pick up my earrings from Tiffany & Co. I had dropped them off last month when one of my screwbacks kept popping off. As the associate unwrapped my earrings, I noticed that not only did they not replace the backing, but they completely reset the diamonds in different posts WITH different (ugly) backings! And the backings wouldn’t even stay on the post! I tried to be as nice as possible, but it was pretty upsetting that they made all these changes without my knowledge. I ended up leaving them there until the Ops Mgr calls me to discuss possible solutions. Fingers crossed I get a free upgrade.

Blah. That was kind of annoying to type. I just want my friggin earrings back!

My workout for yesterday was supposed to be ‘cardio of choice.’ I chose to do a mish-mash of things at home. I did alternating kickboxing and strength moves and finished up with 100 burpees. 100 BURPEES!! Rather than breaking it up into sets of 10, I wanted to bust out as many efficient burpees as I could. I would do as many as I could with the best proper form, record the number, and take a quick break before attempting more. After 15 attempts, I hit the 100 mark. I’m totally going to do this throughout February. I’m starting to love burpees again.

And again, Layla joined me.

Once my workout was complete, I quickly cleaned up and Tyler and I headed to the Flames game! Tyler got tickets from his boss, so it was a sweet (and free) way to have a nice little date night. And of course we enjoyed beer and hot dogs.

The game was actually close, but the Flames lost in a shootout.

Which brings us to today.

PANCAKES.

Chocolate chip pancakes.

With Coffee.

HEAVEN.

Chocolate Chip pancakes

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cut oats
  • 2 c + 2 tbsp unsweetened almond milk
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 4 tsp baking powder

1. Mix ingredients. Pour batter on griddle. Top with chocolate chips. Flip. Eat.

I was planning on topping with a tiny bit of pure maple syrup, but they were so moist and gooey that it really didn’t need it. Go make these now.

Now I must go put cheese on chips and chips in dips. And watch football.

Hello from NY!

Ok, I just gotta say it: Yesterday was one of the best days I have had in a LONG ASS TIME. Sure I woke up at 2:30am, and yes I sat uncomfortably close to a dude on the plane. BUT. My 9 hour layover in Chicago was a-may-zing. Katie picked me up from the airport and right away we started gossiping. Oh god, how I miss that! We got to her place and immediately hit the pavement for some exploring. First stop: a bar. Obviously. At 11:00am. Sam Summer Ale, how I love you so. Fast forward a few hours, and we had shopped, hung out at her place, and hit another bar for apps and more drinks. Back at the airport by 6pm and more bevvies while waiting for my connecting flight. I can’t wait for my return flight in a couple weeks (Ok, i can wait. But it’ll be exciting) because I have another 9 hour layover in Chicago!

Today was recoup day.

And go to Target day.

 

And eat homemade guac and salsa (ALL the ingredients were from the garden!) day

 

And little old ladies (aka: mom) walk around the house in my brand new shoes day

 

And ravage my parents forest garden for some goodies day

 

And steak and veggies for dinner day (minus the steak- I just wasn’t feeling the whole red meat thing today. I think somewhere pigs are flying right now)

 

And Frozen Dreams for dessert day. I was LONG overdue.

 

Workout of the day was 20 minutes of sprint intervals on the treadmill followed by some full-body strength exercises that incorporated the ideas from Best Body Bootcamp‘s Phase 2 workout schedule. I changed up the tempo of the movement for each exercise- so I varied between 1, 2, 4, and 8 counts for both direction of each move. It really fatigued my muscles a lot faster and I was able to get in split squats, weight bosu squats, chest press, flys, deadlifts and tricep dips in enough time to get home for dinner. I didn’t want to overdue it because I’m looking to do a long run around the neighborhood tomorrow. Sidenote: I was able to increase my speed on the treadmill this week (maybe it’s the lower altitude?)
