Weekend Recap

Another great weekend in the books! Which also mean one week closer to going home..womp. Friday: Obviously the day started with pancakes! The consistency of these are way different than the ones I make at home..I now know just how awesome … Continue reading

Little Misfits

Hi friends! How’s your day going so far? Same old, same old over here. I’m covered in dog slob and baby barf, the house is a mess and I’m sure something in the house will break today…if it hasn’t already. Other than that, I’m great! Wouldn’t trade it for the world. Mostly because of my wonderful little guy.

Speaking of little, have you heard of Little Misfits?

littlemisfit

They are a great little company that make rad clothes for babies, toddlers, kids….and adults! (But I’ve found that since having a little one of my own, he gets all the cool stuff and mom’s wardrobe gets put on the back burner. Am I right?)

From their website:

  • What Makes a misfit?–> Fearless and authentic self expression. Got it. But since my babe is still a wee one, he’ll wear what I want him to express!! Never fear, he’ll be allowed to do what he wants once he gets older.
  • What’s a little misfit?–> A rad kid raised in the misfit culture. I’m not really *out there* but you bet your bippy that Wes will be able to help us brew wine and get us a beer from the fridge before he’s in school! PS: Child services, please don’t take my kid away for having said that. We’ll be good, I promise

The people at Little Misfits were awesome and allowed me to pick out an item from their website for Mr. Wes to model. I LOVE that with all the options, you also have the ability to add little tattoo sleeves! So cool. I probably would have opted for that if Wes was a bit older just so that he could fill them out a bit more. But as soon as I saw the Guess How Much I Love You onesie, I knew I had to choose that one! It’s something I used to say to Tyler when we were dating “love you to the moon…” (I still love him, I just don’t say it anymore. He’s not offended).

I chose the smallest size (0-6mo) and what do you know, my little chubster fills it out nicely as just 2 months!

I think my favorite thing about this design is that it’s a reflective, shiny gold. Makes my kid stand out among all the others in boring puppies (still love them), tractors, and dinosaur outfits. Actually, I think it’s making me bring the saying back. Yep, I think I’ll start saying it to Tyler again. I mean hey, I love him enough to have a kid with him…right? 🙂

See? Still looks cute on a kid with no neck! Disclaimer: He has a neck. It’s just buried. I look for it every few days to make sure it’s still there.

Layla ALWAYS has to be in the photos. I think she was a model in a former life.

Another cool thing about Little Misfits is that they come out with a Misfits For a Cause collection which features a different charity each month and 100% of the proceeds to go that charity! June’s charity is the Tim Horton’s Children’s Foundation which sends children from low-income families to summer camp.

I REALLY love this onesie and I just hope Wes doesn’t grow too quickly so we can get a few more wears out of it. I already have in mind some places where he needs to be seen in it! Call the paparazzi.

Next order for us will definitely include a shirt or onesie with the tattoo sleeves. Because….RAD.

Thanks Little Misfits for the onesie..Wes loves it! (Does barfing on it count as a token of affection? The good news is, it washes well!)

Friday Favorites

TGIF! Although that really means nothing for me. All the days run together..

I’ve got a few things I wanted to share as my latest favorites. But first, quick recap of this week:

  • Wes is now is size 2 diapers. Can someone say HUMUNGO
  • Tyler traded in his new Mustang for a new 4 door Wrangler. #familyfriendly
  • Leigh came over with Amelia on Wednesday to hang out!
  • Reggie ate a batch of chocolate chip cookies. He’s a total garbage disposal. Although, I did discover that he won’t eat walnuts, so that’s something.
  • Ok, one more baby thing–> remember the episode of Friends when Ross sings Baby Got Back to Emma and she laughs? Yeah, I totally did that to Wes the other day. And YUP, he laughed. So he’s definitely my child. I actually used to have a shirt in college that read ‘OH MY GAWD BECKY.’ I miss that shirt

So, my favorites:

1. Neutrogena Light Night Cream

neutrogena

I have only ever used Neutrogena on my face and had been previously using one of their anti-wrinkle night cream, but I found it didn’t do  really anything as far as wrinkles or moisturizing for my skin. I picked this one up a few weeks ago and just started using it and it’s really great. It keeps my skin nice and soft and definitely helps keep it moisturized- especially now that I’m starting to spend more time outside in the sun!

2. Grilled Zucchini Salad by Bobby Flay

zucchini

I made this when friends came over for dinner a couple weeks ago. I didn’t know if it was going to turn out, but it ended up being delicious! I had to bookmark it because we now have zucchini growing in our garden and I’m going to want to whip this up for a lot of dinners this summer!

3. Home Workouts! I’ve completed week 4 of T25 Alpha and I know I keep talking about it, but it’s really just that great. It’s only 25 minutes and I find it to be super effective for both cardio and strength training. BUT- it’s starting to get repetitive. I mean, I have been doing the DVDs for just about a year now! Hopefully by the time this is published, I will have bought the 21 day fix extreme (just for the workouts, I don’t care about the food portion of it!) I keep logging in to the website to get it, but then keep getting distracted by a certain someone.

4. My neighborhood. Lame sauce thing to say as a favorite, but it is! I can take Wes or the dogs for walks for MILES and never leave the neighborhood! There are tons of paths and little parks along the way that make it pretty enjoyable and I’m able to change up my route on a daily basis so it doesn’t get boring. Plus, there are areas that are flat and some hilly areas, so I can choose which way to go depending on how strenuous I want the walk to be.

5. GapFit Breathe V-neck tee

gap

This shirt is so soft and breathable and I can wear both casually and for workouts! I must have washed mine a billionty times already and it’s still holding up! I keep waiting for them to go on sale so I can pick up like a dozen more.

Ok, that was a pretty boring list, but it’s what I’ve got! Hope you all have a great Friday and a great weekend!!

Newborn Photos

I don’t think many words are needed except that Whitney did an excellent job taking all these photos. Check back in tomorrow if you’re interested in a Wes: Week 2 post!

Maternity Photos

Many moons ago (aka pre-pregnancy) I thought that maternity photos were a silly waste of money. I mean, the only other time I have hired a photographer was for my wedding, and after seeing those prices, there was no way I was going to spend that kind of money for someone to shoot pictures of me when I’m fat.

Nope.

But then I got pregnant. And I got all mushy-gushy about everything related to pregnancy and baby. *damn hormones*

So, when I was off work for a week in February, I started doing some investigating online to explore the range of photographers in the Calgary area (i.e.: price, style, packages, location, etc). And it was overwhelming. Crazy overwhelming. Add that to my existing anxiety level and the fact that Tyler was in Toronto for the week and POOF, no bueno.

Then I remembered Whitney Cowan– a friend of a blog friend- who is a photographer. I have seen tons of her work online for various other local bloggers I know and I really loved her style. A few e-mail exchanges later and BOOM, maternity photos and newborn photos were booked!

We originally scheduled our session for when I was 36 weeks, but the weather didn’t hold up and we pushed it back another week. I kept my fingers crossed I didn’t have the baby before those photos were taken!! Anyhoo, we met Whitney at Rundle Ruins Park near downtown at 6pm and within an hour, she had taken a ton of photos. Whitney was great- she made us feel super comfortable and I immediately couldn’t wait to have her do our newborn shoot!

Ok, enough of my blabbing- here’s some of the photos!
