Three Things Thursday

BABY THINGS. Because that’s my life. And I lo-ooo-ooove it.

  1. Grapple. It’s a great little invention that allows parents to tether up to three toys! I immediately bought it when I saw it in the store because I routinely put three loose toys on Wes’s high chair and have to retrieve each from the floor approximately a half million times each meal. The Grapple solved that dilemma and Wes seems to even get a kick out of throwing his toys around and still being able to reach them! PS: It cleans super easy AND makes for its own toy- Wes played with the leaf for a good 20 minutes before realizing his toys were attached.

2. Living Textiles Jersey Fitted Sheet. I had bought one of these before Wes was born and planned and swapping it out with a couple of other cotton fitted sheets I had bought for his crib (you know, in case there were barf/diaper blowouts). But I’ve found that he prefers the softness of this sheet. Now that he’s flipping around more and often sleeping on his belly, even I prefer to see him cheek to cheek with a softer knit. The best part? The sheet gets softer and softer with every wash. I went out on Black Friday and picked up a couple more for his crib- lucky kid.

3. Playtex Training Time Straw Cup I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago when Brie asked if I’d started using straws with Wes. Of course I hadn’t (because I have ZERO smarts on what to do with babies and when) so I immediately ran out to Shoppers to pick one up and give it a go. Within 2-3 attempts of just knowing- or gumming- on the straw, Wes finally picked up on the task and began taking small sips of water. He is totally obsessed with it and will often reach out for it when he sees I have it nearby. He’s even getting the hang of holding on to the handles, although I don’t trust him 100% with it haha.

4. (Because who NEEDS to play by the rules..I’m adding an extra) I sing this song to Wes every time I put him down. And when he doesn’t go down right away, I resort to humming it and I think he finds it really soothing when he’s resting his head against my chest. Ahhh yet another great bonding moment with my boy.

So there ya have it- a few BABY RELATED things I’ve been loving lately. These are great gift ideas too!! 😉 If you have any great baby finds, please let me know! I will gladly buy something for Wes over a new pair of Wunder Unders for myself (small tear on that one, but hey).

Three Things Thursday

This week, I thought I’d share three of my latest favorite things

  1. TEXTURE. Oh man, you guys this app is my favorite. When Tyler got my new phone, he renegotiated our contract and a free subscription of texture came with it! (I think it’s for 3 years, yay!)

There are a TON of different magazines you have access to, and you can personalize your library with favorites. You can also see past editions, save articles…you name it. I’ve favorited a lot of family, parenting, health and fitness magazines and have already loved the ease of navigating the app. It’s about $10/mo and I think totally worth it, especially when you think of how much the physical copies are running these days. I think I love it even more now that I can view it on my larger phone screen!

2. Vega One Chocolate Nutritional Shake. Yup, I actually really love this stuff. I bought a large tub of it a few months ago when my Shakeology supply was running low and did NOT like it on my first try. BUT- I’ve since thrown it into my breakfast rotation a few times now and I have become a fan.

vega

My go to smoothie recipe is as follows: 1 scoop vega, 2T PB2, 5T quick oats (or cooked quinoa if there are leftovers in the fridge), 1/4c frozen plain greek yogurt cubes, 3/4-1c unsweetened almond milk. TRY IT! (If Shakeology just so happened to appear in my stocking this Christmas, I wouldn’t complain).

3. Ava Anderson Products. When I was home in October, my friend Amy introduced me to these products (they have everything from home cleaning products to makeup, skincare, a mens line, baby line, etc) and even gave me quite a few samples to try.

This included full sized samples of the entire baby line! I’ve used all but the baby powder on Wes and love how gentle they are on his skin AND they smell heavenly. There is nothing better than smelling a baby’s head. I just soak up the post-bath lotion lathering time because it’s just a nice little bonding moment I get with Wes and I love knowing that I’m using a safe product on him.

Other samples she gave me included the cleanser, toner, hyaluronic acid, eye cream and moisturizer. I used them all and now only have the eye cream left which I USE RELIGIOUSLY.

Which reminds me, I need to order more…

I HIGHLY recommend these products to anyone interested in switching to non-toxic products. Or if you already do, try this brand out- they’re reasonably priced! Only downfall: they currently do not ship to Canada. (I will have my orders sent to my mom so she can forward them up to me! If any of my Canadian friends are interested in ordering some product, let me know and we can work out the shipping kink;) )

Three Things Thursday

1. I got back into the habit of falling asleep to watching Netflix on my phone in bed each night. (does that not sound like the worst sentence ever?! pff) Well anyways, it works because it’s taken me four nights and I’m still only 8 minutes into One Fine Day. That’s about 2 minutes a night and BOOM, I’m asleep. PS: I love watching old rom coms because flip phones? HAHAHA

2. I have been loving my workouts lately. I feel so proud of myself for really giving it my all. Most of my workouts are from Beachbody (21 day fix, 21 day fix extreme, insanity, t25) but there’s also some spin in there and LOTS of walking every day. LOTS. The Beachbody is great because they are quick and effective workouts that I can do without really having to think. Something that really comes in handy when my brain is already fried from having a baby in the house.

So guess what? I just weighed myself the other day and I’m 20lbs less than what I was pre-pregnancy. But the weight all came off from one place: my butt. No joke. All my clothes fit the exact same except for the hiney-region. (I attribute about 90% of it from breastfeeding and the other 10% from lack of binge eating/drinking as in pre-baby days. Or maybe it’s the other way around.) It’s kind of gross because my butt looks like how someones belly looks like after losing a TON of weight. It’s also pretty gross that there was an extra 20 lbs back there. But it makes me laugh because that just shows how big my butt actually was. Ok, I’m going to stop saying butt now. Butt.

3. I’m craving girl time like WHOA. I miss hanging with friends! Especially when it involves wine and not talking about baby-related things (although I am guilty of somehow always bringing the conversation back to Wes). I find that I am in such a better mindset when I get a couple of free hours to just be me. And what better way to be me than to do it with friends? Unless I’m getting a mani/pedi or massage, then that is definitely better.
