Weekend things

Yesterday, I wore real clothes. Like, no trace of Lululemon was on my body. I don’t know what possessed me. (Ok, that’s a lie. I went to the gym first thing in the morning, so I had to wear some Lulu. And if you’re wondering, my workout was treadmill intervals for 35 minutes followed by another 30 minutes of lower body and core exercises using the bosu and a body bar.)

The weekend would not be complete if Tyler and I didn’t make a trip to Home Depot. We picked up tons of supplies so he can strip and paint the bathroom cabinets while I’m gone (thank god, because I really didn’t want to help with that project).

We came home, and decided it was time to pick the first pepper from out patio garden.

We probably should have let it grow a bit more because it was BITTER. But we wanted to be able to enjoy the vegetables of our labor (get it, instead of fruits of our labor?! haha I’m funny) while I was still home. Chances are, Tyler is going to get stuck with everything ripening while I’m away. Looks like someone’s gonna be eating lots of tomatoes.

My second real outfit of the day was for our date night. The date night that had a slightly different twist of events.

So, we decided to check out a new-to-us restaurant. As we were walking in, I tripped on the entryway and completely sliced off the bottom of my big toe. (I immediately started to freakout because a.) I hate blood, and b.) I did this before in 4th grade. I was with my mom at a Montgomery Wards in Northern California- we were taking the escalator, and I was wearing flip flops, and tripped. It wasn’t until we had been walking around the second floor for a few minutes that I noticed a trail of blood behind me. My mom rushed me to the bathroom and I fainted. Awesome). Anyways.

So I had to tell the manager and ask for a bandaid. Oh, and I ruined my sandals because blood got all in the stitching.

Fast forward a bit, and Tyler’s steak came out terrible. He told the waiter, but decided to keep his entree because he didn’t want to wait for another to cook. Turns out the manager got wind of this and came to our table. He felt bad that on our first visit I had shed blood and Tyler’s steak had no blood. So, he discounted our meal and gave us a dessert on the house.

A very good dessert at that.

This AM, I got new luggage for my trip. Wa-HOO

And now, I mist fill said luggage. And do my homework (boo). And workout. And walk my puppy. And that is all.

PS: Fingers crossed the airport security doesn’t mistake my pre-workout powder for cocaine.

This week’s eats and beats

This week’s music downloads:

That’s all for now. Talk to you later!

raining= shopping. basic math

It’s only right to go shopping on rainy days. Both online and at the mall. Here’s what happened:

Lululemon embossed crops, courtesy of Athena

(That’s obviously not a picture of me. I easily weigh 60 lbs heavier, and my nail polish is a deeper red)

Benefit Cosmetics The Pretty Committee makeup set

The best makeup company EVER. Can’t say it enough.

This button:

..because it made me laugh at loud in the store. What I’ll do with a button, I have no idea. Probably put it on my gym bag. Or wear it on my shirt everyday.

Canvas flats:

Super comfy. AND I got these for $40 off the original price. (In my opinion, I wouldn’t even pay $40 dollars for these, so no wonder they had a bunch in inventory that needed to go on sale. Jen for the win)

CLICK espresso protein powder:

THIS IS MY FAVORITE PROTEIN POWDER OF ALL TIME. I love drinking it, baking with it, and adding it to my oats. I only ordered it now because it only ships in the US so I am having it sent to my parents house. CAN’T WAIT!!!!!

Another thing I’m having shipped to my parents:

(Also, not me. Sigh. I got black bottoms and a white top)

The rest of the stuff I got were gifts, so I can’t post them here. It’ll spoil the surprise.

Anybody have some good purchases recently? Let’s hear it!

BLENDER BROWNIES

Ok, I think the title of this post gives it away. It’s about brownies, people. But these aren’t just ordinary brownies.

These are blender brownies.

Balls, are they good. And healthy. I refrained from mentioning the healthy bit to Tyler until he consumed a couple. I didn’t want the thought of ‘healthy’ consuming his mind and altering his opinion of their taste. BECAUSE.THESE.ARE.GOOD.

Ingredients

  • 1 can chickpeas (14 oz, drained)
  • 3 eggs
  • 3 tbsp apple sauce
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 1/8 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • Optional: 1/4 chocolate chips

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Grease 8×8 pan.
  3. Put all ingredients in the blender.
  4. Blend till smooth.
  5. Pour batter in pan.
  6. Optional: drop chocolate chips over top of poured batter
  7. Bake for 35 minutes.

Ack, it couldn’t get any easier than that. EXCEPT- it’s a bit more dangerous ‘licking the bowl.’ I wouldn’t do that.

I actually first attempted to use my brand new food processor for this, but one of the latches was defective. I of course had to make a call to the nice man and have him send me a warranty part. Frighteningly enough, that made my day. Getting a new (free) part for my kitchen appliance. Sigh. I am really a grown up now. Next thing you know, we’ll be vacuum shopping or some crap like that.

Oh, and I prepared, transfered from processor to back up blender, and baked this IN WHITE SHORTS.

Baller right here. This is my makeshift outfit shot- we don’t have any full length mirrors. Yet. (Like the new bathroom color??!!)

Today’s workout: TRX bootcamp

Today’s eats: Cheerios w/almond milk, grapefruit, veggie burger patty (no bun), pulled pork quesadilla (haven’t had it yet!)

Today’s “I bet you don’t care but I’m gonna tell you anyways”:

  • I don’t care what people day, wedding planning is easy.
  • I  love my new dentist (no cavities!)
  • I have been unemployed for 173 days.
  • I get to see MY FRIENNNNDSSSSSS in 18 days!!!!!

Guest Post: July Foodie PenPals (pt. 2)

Hi everyone, I am feeling super under the weather today, but I wanted to make sure I published this post! For July, I was pleased to participate in the foodie penpal program (see my original post here). My penpal- Francoise- asked if she could do a guest post regarding her goodies..check out all the cool stuff!

The Lean Green Bean

Let me tell you about an amazing experience…

FOODIE PENPALS !!

*

Here’s a detailed explanation of the program:
(Thanks to The Lean Green Bean to letting us copy this text instead of all writing it over!)

-On the 5th of every month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.
-You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal!
-The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treats! The spending limit is $15. The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!
-You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)
-Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you are to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month.
-Foodie Penplas is open to US & Canadian residents. Please note, Canadian Residents will be paired with other Canadians only. We’ve determined things might get too slow and backed up if we’re trying to send foods through customs across the border from US to Canada and vice versa.

Want to give it a try? It’s easy!! Just click HERE

First of all, I would like to thank Jen for letting me do this guest post on her blog.  I received my box of goodies and was thrilled to open it. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw all the great stuff she had sent.  Here’s a list of what I received as well as a few comments on each.

1. Organic sprouted sunflower seeds.  This really made me smile…I have loved sunflower seeds since I was a child.  I had never tasted them like this before (with garlic & sea salt) and wow….they were awesome !

2. Dark hot chocolate.  Well Jen did it again…another favorite of mine…hot chocolate.  Nothing beats a great cup of hot chocolate and this one was great !

3. Almond butter. I had never tasted this before.  I really enjoyed its smooth texture and great taste on toast.

4. Organic fruit snack (berry blend).  I’ve had fruit snacks before, but this one really packs a lot of taste.  It’s made with real fruit and you can taste it in every bite.  I’ll be carrying these around for sure!

5. Roasted Seaweed Snack. I haven’t tried this yet.  It’s a health-conscious snack made with the finest ingredients.

6. Sugar shortbread cookies.  I shared this one with my spouse.  They are almost as good as homemade.  We both enjoyed them a lot.

7. A package of sour candy.  These practically disappeared as soon as they were out of the box.  William (my spouse) says they’re delicious and thanks you very much Jen!

8. Electrolyte Hydrator (lemon lime). This replenishes electrolytes, minerals and antioxidants. It is something that I really need on days that I have chemotherapy.  Jen couldn’t have chosen a better product!

I’d also like to share with you all a quote Jen included in the hand written note she sent.  ‘The only time to eat diet food is while you’re waiting for the steak to cook’ -Julia Child.  You’ve just got to love this!

A great big thank you to you Jen for making me discover some tasty new products. You’ve made my third participation one to remember !
