Weekender

Hey everyone! How was your weekend? Our was pretty good- low key in that we didn’t really have any obligations; restful even if Wes’s nap schedule was totally whack; and accomplished in that we got our house ready for the holidays! Backtracking a couple days to bring you up to speed…

Friday: Layla had us up pretty early in the morning because she was having butt issues again. I finally got out of bed at 5:30am to hang out in the living room with her because she kept wandering in to Wes’s room and crying. Once the vet opened, I called to make an appointment and we were squeezed in that morning. The verdict? We think she was just constipated. I know, who wants to read about that on a Monday morning. Sorry.

The rest of the day we just hung out.

I did some yoga then laid down for a bit while Wes took his afternoon nap. It felt good to get some stretching in then rest! Especially with such a stressful night with Layla.

Once Tyler got home, we went to get our Christmas tree then had burritos for dinner and watched Amazing Race.

Saturday–>

  1. Pool
  2. Costco
  3. Pizza

There was a bit more in the mix, but that’s the highlight reel.

I decorated the tree and got some other stuff put up around the house in the morning. It’s now really feeling like Christmas and I love it.

Wes was really great in the pool this week, too. I’m glad it was my week to be in the water with him because not only was it WARM (thank god) but he was kicking and splashing and majorly pining after a giant red ball floating around. Now if only the YMCA would wash their damn windows so we could get a clear picture!

Our Costco trip was a fortune. That is all.

Tyler made pizza, I jogged the dogs, and we watched a couple recorded shows before heading to bed.

Sunday: I got up with Wes but was quickly fading after about an hour or so. It wasn’t that he got up early, I was just really exhausted for some reason. Once Tyler got up, I headed back to bed and was able to nap for about 90 minutes. HEAVEN.

I mustered up enough energy to get in a cardio workout while Wes took his morning nap (even though it was more like the afternoon by the time he finally fell asleep!) and Tyler was able to put up our outdoor Christmas lights.

And for the love of all that is holy, Canada Post actually delivered a package. ON A SUNDAY. It was some stuff I ordered for Wes since I had an online credit (more on that later!) He was just as happy as his mama to get some mail!

Wes had a super late afternoon nap- which thank goodness didn’t kill bedtime too badly. RULE: don’t f*ck with a baby’s nap schedule. #bagsfordays

Tyler made me breakfast for dinner, I walked the doggies, and attempted to clean the various disasters around the house before heading to bed.

How was your weekend?

Tis the Season

I read somewhere that if you want to attract and keep readers interested in your blog, you shouldn’t post multiples of essentially the same photo. Well I say phooey to that because I can’t NOT post these.

And yeah yeah I was super safe with him and these lights. Although it may look like he’s touching the actual bulb in some photos, he isn’t. In between just about every shot I had to drop the camera and grab them to make sure all was good!

Three Things Thursday

BABY THINGS. Because that’s my life. And I lo-ooo-ooove it.

  1. Grapple. It’s a great little invention that allows parents to tether up to three toys! I immediately bought it when I saw it in the store because I routinely put three loose toys on Wes’s high chair and have to retrieve each from the floor approximately a half million times each meal. The Grapple solved that dilemma and Wes seems to even get a kick out of throwing his toys around and still being able to reach them! PS: It cleans super easy AND makes for its own toy- Wes played with the leaf for a good 20 minutes before realizing his toys were attached.

2. Living Textiles Jersey Fitted Sheet. I had bought one of these before Wes was born and planned and swapping it out with a couple of other cotton fitted sheets I had bought for his crib (you know, in case there were barf/diaper blowouts). But I’ve found that he prefers the softness of this sheet. Now that he’s flipping around more and often sleeping on his belly, even I prefer to see him cheek to cheek with a softer knit. The best part? The sheet gets softer and softer with every wash. I went out on Black Friday and picked up a couple more for his crib- lucky kid.

3. Playtex Training Time Straw Cup I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago when Brie asked if I’d started using straws with Wes. Of course I hadn’t (because I have ZERO smarts on what to do with babies and when) so I immediately ran out to Shoppers to pick one up and give it a go. Within 2-3 attempts of just knowing- or gumming- on the straw, Wes finally picked up on the task and began taking small sips of water. He is totally obsessed with it and will often reach out for it when he sees I have it nearby. He’s even getting the hang of holding on to the handles, although I don’t trust him 100% with it haha.

4. (Because who NEEDS to play by the rules..I’m adding an extra) I sing this song to Wes every time I put him down. And when he doesn’t go down right away, I resort to humming it and I think he finds it really soothing when he’s resting his head against my chest. Ahhh yet another great bonding moment with my boy.

So there ya have it- a few BABY RELATED things I’ve been loving lately. These are great gift ideas too!! 😉 If you have any great baby finds, please let me know! I will gladly buy something for Wes over a new pair of Wunder Unders for myself (small tear on that one, but hey).

Perfect Protein Pancakes

I thought I’d dedicate a post just to my favorite pancakes of all time. Ok, they’re my favorite ‘healthy’ pancakes that I eat on the regular. I didn’t start making these until after I purchased my Vitamix because I think the machine is what does the recipe justice. (How do I know? Because my previous cuisinart blender was a piece of crap and even my parent’s Ninja blender can’t hold a flame to blending the ingredients just right).

What you need:

  • 3/4 oats (I use quick oats)
  • 3/4 greek yogurt (I use plain 2%)
  • 2 egg whites

Directions:

  1. Add all ingredients into blender* (i use the dry container for my Vitamix). Blend until smooth.
  2. Pour silver dollar sized amounts of batter onto hot, sprayed skillet. Flip when you see the edges starting to look ‘dry’.

Yields: 12-16 mini pancakes

*Note: I will add egg whites first, oats then greek yogurt. If oats are placed in first, it makes it difficult to properly blend and you’ll make a couple attempts of scraping down the sized of the container with a spatula. And then when that happens, the batter will splatter around the container when you turn it back on.

Once in a while I will add a 1/4 cup fruit into the blender for a pop of color and/or flavor.

And unless we are somehow out of it (OH THE HORROR) I always top my pancakes with Canadian maple syrup. Noms.

What are you favorite pancakes?

Weekend At A Glance

Hi friends! How are you? Did you have a good weekend? We didn’t do much over here, but if you’re reading this in desktop version you might have noticed I changed the blog’s format a bit. I’m still trying to play around with it- at least as much as I can without having to pay for any upgrades. Let me know if there’s anything you’d like to see/change! Continue reading
