Weekend Recap

Friday

YASSSSSSSS finally made the best batch of pancakes- no better way to start off the morning! They look a bit Seussical, but maybe that’s just because I have Dr. Seuss brain from all the books I’ve read with Wes this week.

IMG_9147

Speaking of, the baby actually woke up in good humor so I was able to get my workout in (PS: why is it called Dirty 30 workout when it’s not even 30 minutes long???) and some stuff done around the house. We then made attempt #2 at walking over to the UPS store to pick up my package…which ended up being the best package ever!

IMG_9155

I’m still getting used to it but I love it SO MUCH already- quite the upgrade considering I’ve had my existing iPhone for over 3 years.

Tyler came home from work a bit early because I had to drop my car off at the dealership for an oil change. PS: I’ve had my car for just over 2 years now and have only put 7,000 miles on it. Crazy! We headed back home and Tyler got to work on the basement for a bit while Wes and I (and Layla) hung out upstairs. We weren’t on speaking terms with Reggie since he ate his way through a big bag of dirty diapers while we were gone.

We had frozen pizza for dinner and watched the newest Terminator movie before heading to bed.

Saturday

It’s sad that I don’t need an alarm clock anymore. Even if Wes is still sleeping, I’m wide awake no later than 6:45 every morning. In a way, it’s kind of nice because I have some quiet time to myself (HAHAHAHAHAH not to myself- I end up doing all the ‘quiet’ chores around the house). Sometimes I kick myself for not getting back into bed after pumping, but it’s almost a sure thing that Wes will wake up as soon as my head hits the pillow. Why jinx it?!

It was sorta yucky out, so we stayed indoors until it was time to go to Wes’s pool class. It was still Tyler’s turn to be in the pool, so I was able to snap a pic of them.

IMG_0020

We ran a bunch of errands afterwards, mostly only to find a couple of pumpkins because I’m a terrible mother and didn’t get them early enough. Just my luck, every store was out. Instead, I bought a bag of mandarin oranges and tried to be a festive as possible.

I got Wes in his costume for a couple of pictures before he freaked out (I would’ve tried to take him to a couple of houses just for fun, but it was freezing and drizzly out. Plus he got super tired and that just would’ve been the perfect storm for a meltdown.)

IMG_0030

IMG_0048

Tyler made us fajitas for dinner and Wes fell asleep super early. It was sort of a shitty night because we had to be on high alert for any trick-or-treaters so that we could contain the stupid dogs and keep them from waking the baby.

IMG_0057

We watched an episode of Walking Dead before I needed to get in bed- I was so nervous I’d get screwed with an early wakeup from Wes because of the time change.

Sunday

Wooo for Wes taking this whole daylight-savings into consideration! The kid slept 13 hours and got up at his normal-isn 7:30am! AND GUYS- EVEN TYLER GOT UP PRETTY EARLY! He made me breakfast too, which was umm SUPER.

IMG_0074

I watched the rest of Bridget Jones’s Diary while Wes took his nap (ummmm how have I never seen this movie before? It was pretty good!). We played and read through some books before heading out for a nice long walk. It was overcast, but warm enough to tolerate being outside for some time. I rounded out the walk with a stop at the library to return some books and pick up another dozen- SO important for the days when it’s too yucky to go outside! I made it home JUST as it started to drizzle.

IMG_0076

The afternoon was pretty eventful- so far as Sundays and not really leaving the house goes. Our pilot light went out and we couldn’t get it re-lit, so we have been without hot water for the whole day. Poor Tyler spent the entire day trying to remedy it, but just couldn’t get it to work. WOMP.

I made some brownies with a few leftover candy bars. We bought tons of full sized candy bars and only had about a half a dozen trick or treaters. I’m not complaining- most of the candy is stuff I like.

IMG_0079

IMG_0081

The picture of the final product isn’t very appetizing, but these brownies are SO fudgy. Aka: SO yummy.

I did a T25 workout, about 7 loads of laundry, and just a ton of other household crap. Wes started a new thing where he scrunches up his face and raises his eyebrows which is absolutely hilarious so we had a good laugh attempting to have him do it over and over again for us.

Dinner was some roasted sweet potato and the rest of the fajita filling.

IMG_0084

I took a very cold shower before getting to bed.

Super exciting weekend, I know!!

How was your weekend? What’s the best thing you did/ate? Favorite candy??

{Eats}…From the Week

Not much to recap here since it’s really only covering Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday so I thought I’d share some of the dinners we’ve enjoyed this week! There might be a few pictures of Wes in there, too. Can’t help it.

Tuesday: We had burgers on the grill of the smoker and some fries made in the actifry. Holy moly does charcoal give burgers the BEST flavor!

photo 1-113

photo 2-109

Tyler made my plate since I was feeding Wes and he gave me enough ketchup and mustard to last infinity. So I stole some of his burger 🙂

Wednesday: I made Chicken Enchilada Stuffed Zucchini Boats. They were so good! I ate mine way too fast and had a bit of a tummy ache.

photo 1-114

We met up with Leigh and Amelia earlier in the day to walk along the river. Wes tried out his Bob stroller and you can tell it was a hit.

photo 4-52

photo 3-80

Wes contemplated eating Sophie.

photo 2-110

Thursday: I made Crockpot Cheesy Buffalo Chicken Pasta. It was pretty good in the flavor category, but the consistency was a little dry. I kept adding additional chicken broth, but it didn’t help much. And of course I had to add some veggies, because #healthfreak (<—-HAHAHAHAHA yeah right).

photo-82

I also made a batch of Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars for two reasons: 1) because I was in the mood to bake, and 2) because it’s friggin dessert.

photo 4-53

GO MAKE THESE NOW.

Wes ate his rattle.

photo-83

Now it’s time for a no-pants weekend! Wes already got a head start. (Who am I kidding, every weekend is no-pants weekend. Make that every DAY. Every damn day.)

Weekend Recap

Friday

As usual, pancakes on Friday! Love them SO much- except I do miss my real Canadian maple syrup back home 🙂 In case you’re wondering, the recipe is SO simple: 3/4 c quick oats, 3/4 c greek yogurt, 2 egg whites. (I add a bit of almond milk to thin out the batter since the consistency from my mom’s blender is a bit more grainy.)

photo 1-96

I noticed in the local paper that there is a new baby boutique downtown, so my mom and I went to go check it out. Unfortunately, I don’t think the shop will last long- she had barely any inventory and it was extremely expensive for the area. There was one little fleece coat there that was adorable, but I wasn’t about to pay $52 for it!

We walked around for a bit longer and stopped in another shop where I saw they had Hunter boots- and they had my size!!! (11). My mom convinced me to buy them since there was a sign that said 40% off- which I could still justify given the current exchange rate. Apparently it was NOT my lucky day, because they were improperly marked and were full price. UGH. I’m really hoping Tyler reads this and sees that I want a pair of ORIGINAL TALL BLACK HUNTER BOOTS. SIZE 11.

Tyler- are you reading this? Please be reading this. I really want those boots.

To make up for all the bad shopping, we stopped in to Rock Hill Bakehouse for lunch. I’m mad at myself for being home this long and waiting until the end of my trip to order my favorite sandwich, the Granny Smith. It has roasted turkey, sliced granny apple, sharp cheddar and curried mayo on toasted raisin bread. Mmmmmm

photo 2-92

photo 3-67

I’m the biggest idiot in the world and had a bit of ice-cream when we got home. <–That part isn’t me being an idiot, but working out less than 10 minutes after eating the ice cream is. I just about barfed. I was literally sweating Ben and Jerry’s out of my face.

photo 4-43

Dinner was pretty f*ing good too. My dad made homemade balls and sauce which I paired with a THICK slice of Villas bread. OMG I love Villas bread- it’s so thick and well, bread tasting. I used to eat entire loaves of this stuff in high school. You know, back when metabolisms were great.

photo 5-26

News alert: I opened that beer and drank a whopping 3 sips of it. I think I’m losing my pumpkin beer mojo??! I’m not liking any of the ones I bought!

Wes INHALED some cereal, green beans and pears. The boy loves his food!

photo 3-68

Before bed, I decided to whip together a coffee cake. I’ve been craving one lately and secretly hoping my mom would put it together. Instead, she gave Wes a bath and a bottle while I got to work in the kitchen. Totally fine by me.

photo 1-98

photo 2-94

photo 3-69

So basically, Friday was a day revolving around food. Actually, that’s most days.

Saturday

Ugh. Wes is really liking this whole wake-up-at-5AM thing. I’m not liking it at all. Especially these last few days- I have been feeling a bit under the weather. WOMP. The good news is, he falls asleep right after eating, so I can get back to bed for a bit longer as well.

Even though I was feeling crappy, I made breakfast (BAE- bacon and eggs) for all of us AND cut into the delicious loaf I made last night.

photo 1-99

I could have eaten the entire thing.

My dad took Wes for a walk while I napped (very important!) ad my mom and I eventually got out the door for a girls outing (+ Wes). We wanted to drive out to Salem, NY for a couple of different fall fests. Funny story: We drove to Salem, drove through Salem, then drove home. At least the view was scenic and Wes got in another long nap! Fun fact: There are more cows in Salem than people.

photo 3-70

photo 4-45

PS: I took this photo while getting ready this morning..I am too lazy/frugal to buy new pjs, so I’ve been rubber banding my existing ones. I’m convinced I’ll fill them out again soon, so I’m not about to spend more money on smaller ones!

photo-76

We had dinner reservation sat my favorite local restaurant, Bistro LeRoux . I can’t say enough good things about this place- the service is so friendly, the food is AMAZING and the atmosphere is nice and cozy for a delicious evening out of the house.

I stuck with my all time favorite: the Mascarpone Stuffed Poached Pear Salad. It comes with candied walnuts, cherries, mascarpone cheese and spinach with a vanilla fig vinaigrette. I added filet to mine to make it a heartier meal and it didn’t disappoint in the least.

And of course we had a bottle of wine for the table.

And of course we split warm apple pie for dessert.

And of course I multi-tasked and fed Wes once he woke up.

Of course.

I hate to say it, but this trip is coming to an end with both Wes and I having colds. UGH. Which made sleep on Saturday night pretty much non-existant (for me). The poor boy just had a bit of a hard time getting to sleep, but stayed down for a solid 10 hours. Lucky.

Sunday

Well, I couldn’t sleep worth a crap. I ended up watching My Best Friends Wedding and sobbed like a baby. Also, ummm now that I’m watching it, Kimmy (Cameron Diaz’s character) is only 20 and in college and Julia Roberts is supposed to only be 27. HOWWWWWW did they all get such great jobs? I would DIE..strike that…KILL to be 27 and be a food critic. Or a sports writer. Stupid rom coms.

I then got super desperate and watched Drive Me Crazy (which drives me crazy.) At least it did the trick and I fell asleep.

Despite the yucky feelings, Mr. Wes woke up bright eyed and bushy tailed. (Me, on the other hand…WOOF).

photo 1-101

My dad took Wes for a long walk in the morning so I was able to squeeze in my workout. Having a sniffly nose + cardio do NOT mix, but I powered through it and felt about .5 billionty times better.

In the afternoon, we ventured back over to the mall because I wanted to see if I could find any good deals on clothes for myself. I wound up getting 2 shirts and a sweater which I think will fit into my upcoming fall/winter/spring lifestyle. PS: I dread going back to work to wear more put together outfits. Barf.

I also picked up another box of Quest bars and managed to work a single pumpkin pie bar into my purchase. This is just about the only pumpkin thing I’ve succumbed to this fall. Well, besides the beer but that was an EPIC fail this year and more than 75% of it went down the drain.

photo 2-97

The weather in the late afternoon was so nice, I decided to take Wes for another walk. The fresh air did us both good and I am so dreading going back home to colder, non-walkable weather.

photo 3-72

I made myself a stuffed sweet potato for dinner and absolutely inhaled it. For some reason, the ‘sweet potatoes’ I find in Calgary come nothing close to these in taste, so it was an especially nice treat to have a ‘tater I really loved.

And I bought a case of LaCroix at Target today too. Guess how many are left? None. I’ve already polished them off. Is that gross?? I guess there could be worse habits to have. Like heroin.

 photo 4-47

To wrap up things nicely, my mom made a wacky cake for dessert. I would have taken a picture of it but we ate it and it’s (mostly) gone already. CAKE FOR THE WIN!

How was your weekend?

Five Friday Favorites

Happy Friday! Today is a big day- Whitney is coming over to take newborn photos of Wes. And Tyler and I are going out to dinner for our anniversary! (Big thanks to grandma and grandpa for babysitting for an hour or two!)

I thought I’d share my five top favorite things from the past week (aside from Wes, because he would probably win every week)

1. Hospital issued underwear. I mean, they are ridiculously comfy. I was able to snag a bunch of extra pairs from the nurses before leaving the hospital and am really sad they only last through a few washes before they start to fall apart.

photo-51

2. Buttered Popcorn Rice Cakes- I don’t ever buy these but my dad picked up a few packages from the store and now I am obsessed. My mom got some of the caramel ones but I am trying to steer clear of those because I know once I start on them I won’t be able to stop. Nom nom nom

3. Quest Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough bars- Tyler is THE BEST and picked me up a box of these so I could have some in my hospital bag (we were told the hospital food could either be bad or limited and to pack lots of snacks. Turns out, that wasn’t the case and I was actually offered a few meals with some really great options) I only ate one in the hospital, but I’ve found these bars to be PERFECT to snack on at around 1am in between feedings. Only problem? The wrapper is loud as hell so it’s pretty unpleasant for Wes when I am trying to unwrap one of those suckers and he’s on the boob.

I’m pretty pumped that we just got a $10 off coupon for the local supplement store so I can pick up another box!

4. Juddlies Breathe-Eze Sleeper- After the first few nights of having Wes home, we realized he is not a baby that likes to be swaddled. We’ve found (for right now) the best solution is to have him in a sleeper with a light swaddle from the waist down. We also found out that we had only one newborn sized sleeper, so we had made a few trips to pick up some extras. This Juddlies sleeper is SO soft and it’s breathable, so we don’t have to worry about him sweating or being too cold throughout the night.

5. Starbucks Unsweetened Black Tea Lemonade- this is one of my summertime favorites and I’ve managed to pop into Starbucks a couple times this week because the weather was so nice it practically begged me to order it. Mmm mm so delicious.

So yeah. most of my favorites are food related. A close runner-up are some of the dinners we’ve had this week: they’ve all been yummy, summery dishes. I just love food. And having my parents in the house to prepare most of it has just been wonderful. Plus, there’s an endless supply of fruit on the counter, so I’m not complaining.

What’s something on your favorites list from this week?

Weekend Recap

Well sleep is officially no fun anymore because I am super uncomfortable. At least Layla got up with me at 4:30 this morning and joined me for a few handfuls of multi-grain cheerios in the kitchen.

So this weekend was fun. Again, it’s pretty hard for me to jog my memory on what the hell we actually did, so I’ll do my best!

Thursday: Had my weekly doctor appointment, picked up a pump at the wine store (to de-gas our pinot grigio) and napped a lot. It was super exciting. I also watched SO MANY episodes of Parenthood. As of right now, I’m halfway through season 3 already. Hashtag I need to get a life. Hashtag this is my life and it’s pretty friggin awesome considering I haven’t put a real bra on in about a month or so. I picked up some wine from the nearby liquor store (I saw on twitter they were having a huge sale, so of course I needed to check it out) and we had an awesome steak dinner. PS: The more butter in mashed potatoes the better. We rounded out the night with a few episodes of Bloodline and some popcorn.

Oh, and I did some creeping online and found the Medela breast pump that we wanted was available at Target (in the US) for $150 less than Canada (I think there was an advertising error because I just checked again and it’s marked back up in price) AND my mom’s friend got her employee discount since she works there so my mom ended up getting the pump for $200 less!! Also, the final price is still a TON of money, but um….yeah I have no reason to justify it but we are REALLY excited about it. Unreasonably excited considering it’s a BREAST PUMP.

Friday: Let’s just call this a wasted day. More napping and Parenthood while Tyler replaced the spark plugs on his truck. And I think that’s about it.

Saturday: We picked up new baseboards to replace in the living room/kitchen then I made carrot cake cupcakes and Reese’s pieced cookies to bring over to Susie and Frankie’s. (recipes for both can be found here and here). We had a DELICIOUS dinner over at their house and ended up staying and chatting until way too late! Sidenote: I’ve HAD to shower before bed every night this whole pregnancy- which includes nights we come home from friends houses at 1am. Woof.

Sunday: Parenthood. We finished Bloodline (anyone else watch it?). Laundry. Painting. Napping. Smoothies. Eggs benedict. Puppy snuggles.

(the beagle couldn’t be bothered- he was napping)

That about sums it up! Lots of house-stuff to do before my parents get here on Thursday!
