Falling back in love..with the treadmill

The day starts with this:

20120626-073125.jpg
A big ol’ drink with my all-time favorite pre-workout fuel, Razor 8. Ohmygosh y’all, I swear my this stuff (I’m starting to say ‘y’all’ too much because of The Bachelorette. Grr). But really, it gives me the best oompf I need before I workout and there are no jitters or crash afterwards… Just the best!

On to the workout. Another day on the treadmill. I am starting to fall back in love with the treadmill. Like, I hug the machine after I’m done. Yesterday’s session looked like this:

Warm up: 5 minutes at moderate pace
0-5 run
5-6 walk at brisk pace
6-10 run
10-11 walk at brisk pace
11-14 run
14-15 walk at brisk pace
(my ‘walk’ was at 4.0mph and I varied my run from 6.0-7.0mph)

-Then, I did a squat series. With a body bar on my shoulders, I did 10 front split squats, 10 side split squats, and 10 reverse split squats. On each leg.

-Back to the treadmill for another 15 minute set (same as above)

-another squat set

-3rd set on the treadmill. Add a 5 minute cool down.

DONE

It was a fantastic sweat session. So fantastic, that I talked Tyler’s ear off about how great I felt afterward. Better that than bitch and moan to him!

And on to more randomness…

*Oo oo oo! I got my foodie penpal package yesterday, but I can’t share with you until the 30th, so watch out for that post!

Layla was a pooped dog last night. We took a long walk and chased bunnies and woofed and sniffed and rolled in the grass. And my we, I mean just Layla. I was tempted to woof though.

I got $115 back from Geico yesterday (for returning my MA plates) and I am seriously contemplating a trip to Lululemon. I’ve already done my research and know what I want. Is that bad….?

***Leave me a comment. About anything. I’m in the mood to hear some randomness from readers.***

THE workout

TGIF.

quick recap: yesterday I ran 2035927304 miles with a couple of friends. ok, not that many miles. but it felt like forever. we had lunch at a local restaurant afterwards, and i think i drank approx. 3 gallons of water.

i also decided to write in all lower case today

and i got re-certified in cpr last night. my cert from the states is still valid, but the ymca’s in canada require you to get re-certified every 12 months. oof. one good thing i learned: there is no good samaritan law here. aka: i don’t have to help people if i don’t want to. also, they pretty much have a law that says as long as you’re helping others with good intentions, you’re ok. for example: if i drag someone out of the way because their car is going to explode, but in the meantime i break their back- its ok, i can’t get sued. because i was attempted to keep them from danger. i believe in the states i would be sued for trillions.

oh, and we booked a venue for the wedding. anyone out there who knows me personally, it’s july 6, 2013. so put it down in your calendar. you’re invited.

today: pretty low key. i just finished a crap ton of homework. le barf.

i also took layla for a walk to the pet store to buy her a big ol treat. lucky dog.

and, i worked out. obviously.

check this out. my hair is crazy curly. and i found my corpbasics tank! happy lady.

Recipe Roundup and a Run

If you follow me on Twitter, you’ll notice that I did not pull through on my promise to post a couple of delicious recipes last night. Why? Because I had a sudden urge to find the most perfect Save the Date cards, followed by the urge to eat a bag of skittles (cringe) then jump around with my dog for 10 minutes before heading to the gym to run for 49 minutes. 49 minutes? Yeah, it just worked out that way.

Working backwards, my treadmill workout looked like this:

And for some reason, my boobs decided to get REAL sweaty.

No wonder people were looking at me. I thought it was because I was all awesome on the treadmill. Not the case.

My face was extremely red because

  1. I just ran 4.25 miles
  2. I’m an old lady and had to stretch my lower back after running and the blood rushed to my face
  3. Both 1&2

The correct answer is #3

On to the recipes!

Recipe Numero Uno: Apricot Salsa

How fresh and colorful and awesome does that look? The recipe was easy: roasted red peppers that I roasted myself, cilantro, apricots, cucumber, jalepeno, red onion, lime juice. Cut that shizzz up, and mix it all together!

And if you want to get all fancy-like, do what I did and plate it as such:

However. DO NOT do what I did and accidentally add 4x the amount of jalepeno. That salsa was HOT. I was en fuego. Muy caliente. And the worst part? Because I decided to chop all that crap up sans hand-protection, my hands are now on FIRE. That’s right- 16 hours post prep and my digits are still burning. Oh jalepeno, you done me wrong kid.

Recipe Numero Dos: Macaroni Salad (no pics!)

This is no ordinary macaroni salad. No. This is The Pioneer Woman’s Macaroni Salad. AKA: The blog lady that I have been following for years and just now made a recipe of hers. For the first time. I have had my eye on those cinnamon rolls though. Those will happen. Soon.

Recipe Numero Tres: Gooey Cinnamon Muffins

I saw this recipe come up on my Google Reader from cookies and cups yesterday morning, and the timing couldn’t have been any more perfect.

Layla thought so too. As you can tell, after laboring tirelessly to get these puppies made, I enjoyed them suckers in bed. Because I can do that. Don’t worry I was multi-tasking by watching What Not to Wear doing homework.

And I kept trying to get a shot sans the dog, but it didn’t happen

Guess that’s the price you pay for eating at her level. (NOT meant to be a metaphor!)

And that’s all she wrote. For now!

Single Arm Hang Snatch…that exercise name just makes me laugh

Today was CRAZY busy. As crazy busy as it can get for an unemployed immigrant such as myself.

  • I cleaned
  • I cooked
  • I cleaned some more
  • I did homework
  • I searched for wedding venues
  • I called American insurance billing companies because my former employer in the states still hasn’t fixed my claims
  • I worked out
  • I played with the dog
  • I cleaned even more

Let’s get in to more detail: I cleaned the bathrooms and almost threw up. I rearranged the bed in our room and found KitKat wrappers and a bra under the bed. Weird. I read about Consumer Behavior (as if I haven’t taken enough courses on this topic in Undergrad). I sent tons of emails to venues to see if they’re available for the date we want. I got put on hold on my long distance phone calls, only to have no resolution. I did a killer sweaty workout. I smacked the dog around a bit (and by ‘smacked’ I mean I pet her and played with her toy and carried her around like a baby). I mopped the kitchen floor.

There.

Lemme fill you in on this killer workout.

I started like this:

Layla and I were ready to get our sweat on. And get our sweat on we did.

The exercises:

  • 5 pushups
  • 10 tuck jumps
  • 15 situps
  • 20 squats

Repeat 10 times through for time.

My time:

And I ended up looking like this

And since I felt obligated to work it a little more, I did this:

  • 12 bicep curls
  • 12 lateral raises
  • 12 hammer curls
  • 12 single arm hang snatch (for each arm)—-> seriously, I chuckled for a good 5 min when I typed this
  • 12 dumbbell punches (L+R=1)

And now it is time to shower and situate myself on the stability ball for a little ab action while watching The Bachelorette!

*Note: I hate the show, and I really don’t care for the actual Bachelorette, but I love to watch how chee-ee-eesy those boys can get. Does anyone else get really bothered by Emily’s mouth? Her teeth are weird.

Jenny from the block

A couple of announcements:

1.) I finally added a “workouts” page for easy access to all the workouts I post.

2.) I am officially nutcaseinpoint.com now! Aka: I bought my domain name. Probably not super exciting to anyone but me.

3.) My bestest friend is having a baby GIRLLLLLL and I can finally say it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On to the workout…

I have been spoiled. Teaching two outdoor bootcamps has really converted me to an outdoor worker-outer. So, because it is beautiful out, I am going to get my sweat on outside. My “block” to be exact.

My house is somewhere in this picture, I’m just not going to tell you which it is. But, it is somewhere along this makeshift track that I am going to use for my cardio portion of today’s workout. (Note: the ‘sides’ have a good incline. You just can’t tell in this 2-D pic)

Round 1

  • Run the block (Crap, now I have this song in my head)
  • 10 spiderman pushups
  • 10 star jumps
  • 10 burpees
  • x3

Round 2

  • Run the block (lunge the sides)
  • 10 squats with single arm overhead press
  • 10 curtsey lunge with lateral raise
  • 10 plank rows
  • x3

Round 3

  • Run the block (skip jump the sides)
  • 10 one legged bicep curl w/overhead press (switch legs halfway)
  • 10 weighted arm circles
  • 10 tricep kickbacks
  • x3

Round 4

  • Run the block
  • 10 situps
  • 10 single arm, single leg plank holds
  • 10 weighted Russian twists

I’m off to get this started..hope everyone is having a great Thursday!
