Vacation Burn Workout

Oh Hey.

Just got back from Banff/Lake Louise with Tyler and my parents and the Margarita machine is about to be put into action. BUT FIRST. I thought I would share my latest gym workout with everyone. My arms were a-hunka-hunka-BURNIN’-love afterwards. (Since my parents arrived last week, I have managed to get in a workout about every other day. On days a don’t have an ‘official’ workout, I have been walking walking walking and still sweating sweating sweating.

Vacation Burn Workout

10 minute HIIT workout (90 seconds moderate pace, 30 seconds WORK- this can be either increasing speed or resistance or both. I used the spin bike)

Round 1

  • Single leg hammer curl x12
  • Curtsy lunge with bicep curl x12

(then switch and do the same thing to the other side)

  • Lateral raise x12
  • Front raise x12
  • Overhead press x12
  • Weighted split squat x12

60 seconds of alternating toe taps/jump rope

Round 2

  • Standing hammer curl x12
  • Curtsy lunge with knee and lateral raise x2

(then switch and do the same thing except change legs for curtsy lunge)

  • Lateral raise/front raise combo x12
  • Tricep kickback x12
  • 4 SETS OF WEIGHTED SPLIT SQUATS (2 sets of 12 each leg…and HOLD THE LAST REP OF EACH SET AS LONG AS YOU CAN!!!!)

10 minutes HIIT (same as above- I did the elliptical this time)

…if you REALLY push yourself, this workout will really get you good ‘n sweaty.

You know what I hate? (not for reals hate, but maybe seriously dislike) I have never won a giveaway from any other blog! Ok that sounds selfish. But dude, I have no luck with these things. Therefore, I will not do one until I win one myself. The end.

In other news, my parents are still here and we have been drinking like fish, it has been hotter than hell, and I’m pretty sure the scale would break if I even looked at it now. I have to remind myself: this is my vacation. I need to learn how to relax and take a few days off!

Even though I just wolfed some buttery scones my mom made this AM, I am forcing myself to go to the gym now before I have to schlep my cowboy boots back on and drink $7 beers. It’s a tough life. sidebar: I have been subtlety fitting in exercises where I can (kysh: remember on vacation we just take longer strides?!) I mean: I squat over the toilet seat at the stampede – and when you drink lots of beers, that’s a LONG time to hold a squat; bicep curls with the margarita mix; oblique twists while passing sh*t from the grill to the plate; oh, I could just go on and on.

Apparently this message is an ode-to-kysha ( ok her name is really Kristin but I call her kysha. STILL. From college. And she’s my best friend ever that lives in Seattle and is preg with my little flower girl! 🙂 ) because I just remembered that they now sell Shock Top downtown and I am so happy happy happy to drink them later. Ok, so, workout NOW, drink later. Got it. Oh boy do I hope I sweat a lot at the gym today. I need it.

By the way, does anyone else hate it when you just about remove a layer of skin off the backs of your legs when you stand up in the heat?!

June foodie pen pal (i know, i’m late)

Hi guys.

I have been a terrible blogger lately.

I have just been too busy/too lazy to really get into writing any posts.

And I won’t be any better in the next couple of weeks. My parents arrive today. My birthday is Saturday. Stampede is for the next bunch of days. Yadda yadda yadda.

But, I did want to post on the goodies I got from my June foodie pen pal. That’s right. June. Because I am a terrible blogger as of later (see: above) and I forgot to do so in a timely fashion.

Jamie was my foodie pen pal for June and sent me this wonderful assortment:

So many good things! I almost immediately cooked up the entire package of quinoa to have on the ready in the fridge. Second to go: the chocolate bar. DIVINE. I am saving the Hemp Hearts for the next time I have a salad, and the Good Beans until my mom gets here (because they’re gluten free).

Included in the box were these:

Some Usana products. I have yet to try them only because I suck at meal replacement stuff. Simply because I don’t replace them for meals, I eat them AND my meal.
