Weekender

Hi friends! Hope you had a great weekend! We’ve had some pretty quality family time over here, so no complaints. Although….I could have gone for a little more sleep….

Friday: In typical Friday fashion, I started the day with a batch of protein pancakes and about a gallon of coffee to help get the sleepies out of my eyes. I cut up my pancakes because I had to feed Wes at the same time and with his grabby arms this makes it way easier.

Oh, and it was Wes’s 9 month birthday! I did his monthly recap which you can read here.

IMG_1705

After his morning nap we headed over to the doctor for his checkup. He did great, but was just a bit chilly!

IMG_1702

On the way home, we swung by the grocery store to pick up a few necessities (one of which may have been Ben & Jerrys).

We had leftover pot roast for dinner once Tyler got home then headed over to Costco to stock up. The trip wasn’t too long, so we got home in time for Wes to have his bottle, but the kid was on CRACK and preferred to roll around and babble until he finally went down at 8:45! At that point, I was ready to go to bed myself, but we watched a couple episodes of Homeland.

Saturday: I didn’t wake up until 8am (HOO-FREAKIN-RAY). I got dressed and had some breakfast before Wes got up. This doesn’t sound like a big deal, but man alive does it feel fantastic to have brushed teeth and a washed face in the morning. I quickly fed Wes then headed out the door to get to my hair appointment. Ummm…remind me never to go this long between appointments!

I got a lob cut and had the color brightened up a bit. It feels so great to have a fresh haircut I can’t even describe it. And the girl talk, HOT coffee and me time were the best!

IMG_1719

The afternoon consisted of lunch, a trip to Home Depot, and taking the dogs for a walk.

IMG_1721

IMG_1727

We ordered pizza for dinner, finished Homeland and BOOM..out like lights.

Sunday: I woke up a walking zombie. Boo. Wes had another wakeup in the middle of the night which actually didn’t last too long, but I couldn’t get back to sleep. I think the worst thing in the world is when you WANT to sleep but your stupid brain won’t shut off.

I think about 4 hours later getting up I actually WOKE up so I made some BAE.

IMG_1733

I made Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars, took a nap, worked out, walked the dogs, did laundry then BOOM time for bed.

Also, can we please talk about how this type of telephone is pretty much obsolete for his generation?

How was your weekend?

Random Things Thursday

I’m gonna quit saying I’m looking forward to the weekend because I could just let time freeze for now. I’m loving my time with my baby boy, I’m loving (shock and awe…wait for it) doing chores around the house, and I’m loving being able to run errands during the day and avoiding the wretched weekend crowds. Tomorrow my little man will be 9 months old which brings me even closer to my return to work and I am getting more and more sick to my stomach about it!

  1. Wes tried smoothies for the first time this week! The first one was a mixture of fruits, greek yogurt, oats and almond milk and the second had some spinach added to it. The LOVED the green smoothie- I had to slow him down! He uses this cup and it seems to do the trick in ensuring a slower flow. He’s also been able to munch of some rice husks which seem to disappear in the blink of an eye. This guy loves his food!

2. Thanks to Brie’s post earlier this week, I was able to take advantage of Victoria’s Secret sale- buy a sports bra, get a legging for free! I had a store credit, so it cost me nothing AND I rounded out my quick shopping trip with a stop at the used kid’s store and picked up some oldie buy goodie books for Wes.

IMG_1634

3. Dinners from the week have been pretty easy and super tasty! Monday: Slow Cooker Gnocchi in Creamy Pork Sauce (I used chicken) Tuesday: Mild Italian Chicken Sausage with couscous and sautéed zucchini Wednesday: Asian Turkey Meatballs with steamed broccoli and rice. I plan on making a slow cooker pot roast tonight with leftovers for tomorrow!

4. Monday and Tuesday nights have been tiresome! Wes got up at 5am Tuesday morning and 3am Wednesday morning to feed and each time it took him nearly 90 minutes to get back to sleep. I don’t mind because he rarely does this and I love the extra cuddles, but it really gets to my brain and body when I try to get some shut eye afterwards! It’s a good thing he’s cute.

The lack of sleep causes me to take some obnoxious (and cute!) photos of him 🙂

5. I finished Making a Murder on Tuesday night and Ken Kratz is just super creepy to me. That is all.

6. I’m 90% sure about which day home we will choose for Wes. I checked out another on Tuesday and it seemed a bit too crowded plus the caregiver will be having surgery just as Wes will start there so I’m taking it as a sign it’s not meant to be. We are checking out another place today, but I think my heart lies with the place we checked out last week. It’s $$, but I think Wes will get better attention (which is the most important part!)

7. Tyler noticed that Best Buy OF ALL PLACES had Quest Bars on sale online…the deal (keyword DEAL: regular $39.99; sale $32.99/box) was up until yesterday. So I bought three boxes. These are on my short list of things I will splurge on. Also on that list: Sodastream CO2 canisters (I go through one every 2 weeks), Vega nutritional shake powder, Bio Oil, and anything for Wes.

8. To all my friends in the US: you can come visit me now. Do you know what the exchange rate is right now? Granted, most everything here in my expensive, but still…MORE MONEY IN YO POCKET! Seriously, come visit me. (hint hint: I’ve been here FOUR YEARS and only one person has visited!!!)

Weekender

Hey there! Hope you had a great weekend! We’ve already put all the Christmas decorations away and boy does it make the house feel so naked. Sad face. I bet it’ll be a blink of an eye and we’ll be taking them out again for next year so I can’t be too bummed about it.

Backing it up a couple days to recap the weekend (although hardly anything happened!)…

Friday: The new year started off on a pretty regular note. I got up with Wes and we hung out until Tyler got up and I could whip up some of my usual Friday pancakes. The past few days, I’ve been giving Wes some puffs to snack on after I get him dressed for the day. Super dangerous considering there are two extremely snack-hungry pups in the house, but they’ve both been surprisingly good with it and only snagged a puff here or there- usually with consent.

In the afternoon, I simultaneously worked out with watching the most recent season of The Mindy Project while Tyler began organizing our file cabinet (soooo needed, you have no idea.) Then pizza for dinner because umm.. we couldn’t think of anything else to have.

IMG_1400

After Wes went to bed we watched Everest. Of course I got super curious and spent about 45 minutes searching the internet for pictures of the actual people and reading about them.

Saturday: Woof, it was a rough day. I got up and did Wes’s usual morning routine then headed back to bed for a nap when Tyler got up. Around his morning nap time, he wouldn’t really go down so after 45 minutes of trying, I decided it was as good as skipped. After he had lunch, we headed out to buy some trim for the house and he wound up falling asleep for a bit in the car.

Once we were home, he was irritable again and dinner/bath/bed time was pain in the hiney- he was just very whiny and we couldn’t figure out why! I only got one good picture of him playing which happened to be in the 15 minute time span that he was in decent humor.

IMG_1410

Mucho Burrito for dinner- an easy go-to when we have zero desire to be in the kitchen.

IMG_1411

Because naps were pretty much non-existent, he went to bed at 6:45 then I took the dogs for a long walk. We watched a few episodes of the latest season of Homeland before going to bed.

Sunday: Well it made sense why Wes was having such a crap Saturday. The kiddo woke up with a runny-as-heck nose and a bit of congestion. I’m pretty sure I can see one of his bottom teeth starting to poke through too.

I spent the morning wiping his nose and doing everything possible to keep him happy. Seemed to do the trick (PLUS- I was able to sneak in a 15 minutes nap while he napped!).

IMG_1412

BAE Sundays are the best 😉

Although he was showing obvious signs of a cold, he was taking it like a champ and had fun playing with his toys throughout the afternoon. He took another nap at his usual time and I was able to workout and walk the pups.

FullSizeRender

FYI: I always eat dessert before dinner. Today, I enjoyed a (way too small) piece of chocolate cappuccino cheesecake that Tyler made. HOLY HECK IS IT GOOD. Then, I made a hodge podge bowl of quinoa, pulled chicken, sautéed veggies and cashews. YUM!

We watched some of the football games downstairs while I organized the rest of the file cabinet. Exciting, I know!

That’s it from our end! Tyler is back to work tomorrow and I have decided to start seriously looking into childcare options for when I go back to work in April. BARF.

How was your weekend?!

Random Things Thursday

Hey there, everyone! How are you doing? I’m having a hard time keeping track of what day it is since the holidays always throw me for a loop plus Tyler is home all this week. But I’m glad it’s only Thursday (just had to check the calendar again to make sure) and Wes and I have a few more daysof him home with us.

So, some random stuff to share with you today- hope that’s ok. (They’re actually my favorite kind of posts because I don’t have to sound cohesive at all. Phew!)

I loaded my 2015 Best Nine montage on Instagram. Turns out pregnancy and baby photos are pretty popular. Glad the post-delivery donut made it in there too 😉

IMG_1284

Costco now carries a jumbo pack of Honest Co. body wash + shampoo. I’ve already used it on Wes and I can’t believe how soft it makes his skin and hair! I’m jealous and want to use it too. It’s a sweet orange vanilla scent which you can smell straight out of the bottle, but becomes very light and natural smelling once used. So nice since I don’t really want Wes to smell like an orange?

honest

I FINALLY used the Essie Sleek Stick appliqués that I received for Christmas a few years back. They were super easy to apply, but they don’t last too long- I felt like I had to avoid doing certain things so they wouldn’t peel off. But they’re really cute. (I don’t think they make them anymore?)

IMG_1313

We headed to the mall yesterday and I scored a couple of Nike running shorts for $10 each! I bought three pairs of these YEARS ago and absolutely love them- but never bought more since I couldn’t justify the regular price tag (hahah I gag writing this because I’ve managed to buy $$$$$$$$ in Lululemon since, but that habit has been kicked. Thank God.) The best part? They don’t ride up when I do cardio- something I have never experienced before. LOVE. And you’re welcome for the grainy crotch shot with the Terminator/Alien poster background.

IMG_1338

Of course, I have to throw in some pictures of Wes for good measure. I snapped a pic of him yesterday while he was eating because I think it might be the last gummy smile pic I get before his bottom teeth pop through. Is it bad that I am massively depressed about him getting teeth? I want him to stay a baby forever.

Oh right! I chose a winner of the ookpix giveaway (where WERE you guys? I expected way more entries…next time people…next time!) and the winner was KORI! You need to send me a pic of the canvas once you get it!

And then there’s some recent eats. Nothing fancy because we’ve been pretty lazy.

Before I go, I have to ask for some feedback- MAKEUP REMOVER. What kind do you use?! I’ve always used the bottle of Maybelline remover with a Q-tip, but just tried some Neutrogena wipes and really like how wipes work- but I cut them into 4’s so I can stretch out the package. Anyone have any recommendations on what I should try? Preferably something natural? I’m all ears!

Happy New Year’s Eve!

Friday Facts

Happy Friday everyone! Man..only one week until Christmas! I am way too excited to have our first Christmas with Wes. And have cinnamon buns for breakfast. And presents. Here’s some stuff from the week…

  1. Tyler made an Irish Cream Chocolate Oreo Cheesecake and it is SO GOOD. I’m not a cheesecake person, but I have been anxiously waiting for Wes’s afternoon nap each day this week so that I can sit in quiet and enjoy a piece.

2. I won a giveaway on Instagram which consisted of a pack of mulling spices. They were dropped off at my house today, and I can’t wait to put them to use! (I tried to track it back on Instagram and it seems the photo was taken down? Womp.)

3. I met up with Susie on Tuesday night for dinner at Wurst. It was VERY important that we got the giant pretzel, but also had salads to round out the meal. Since we got the check by 7:30, we decided to head over to Proof to have fancy cocktails. They were ok, but not really worth the $14 price tag. I was home and in bed by 10pm. WINNING. I wore my new blanket scarf that had just came in the mail that day. (Ps: I ordered it from a credit I had on Zulily).

4. Of course I have to include some pictures of Wes in here. He had his first bath in the big tub this week and started using the spoon to feed himself! (most gets flung, but at least it’s progress!) Oh, and I posted his 8 month update this week too.

I must’ve stared at this bath photo for a good 15 minutes before dozing off last night 😉

5. We have SO many presents under our tree right now. And it’s not even everything. Plus Santa still has to come. I have a feeling a certain little boy is going to get spoiled this Christmas…

IMG_1097

6. Don’t forget to check out MintedLane! The coupon code is only good until Sunday and you won’t want to miss out!!

IMG_1706.JPG

7. Best meal we had this week- Cashew Chicken Quinoa Bake.

8. I’ve successfully gone all week without the TV on during the day. To be honest, I could have gone without it in the evenings as well, but Tyler turns it on for us to watch a couple of game shows before bed. Only thing I’ve watched has been some random Christmas stuff on Netflix at night, one of which was A Moody Christmas (I think it’s only on Canadian Netflix and not the American one..sorry!) Super funny.

moody

That’s all from this end! We have lots to look forward to for the weekend, so I’ll be back on Monday to hopefully share some fun stuff!
