Fiesta recap

Dudeskiguykidman- yesterday afternoon/evening was fun!

I started with an insanely sweaty at-home workout that left me weak and shaky and just the way I love to feel after I workout.

Sweat= πŸ’—

While I was in the back room getting my groove on (40 minutes of kix followed by a quick n dirty 10 min of strength/cardio intervals and finishing with 10 min of abs), Tyler and Layla were chillin’ like villains. Seriously, the two are like BFFs. I think it’s because he gives her tons of treats, never mind the fact that I’m with her all day and walk her and pet her and feed her and love love love her. But, her affection does come with a price- she now sleeps on top of Tyler at night! Bwahahaha.

(oh, and he bought her this super plush bed at Costco yesterday)

Look at my little family! How adorbs πŸ™‚

After I cooled down and showered, we got to work. ‘work’ meaning eating and drinking. (Insert fist pump here)

20120506-091508.jpg

Round 1 was mango margaritas.

20120506-091556.jpg

20120506-091543.jpg

Accompanied by some grub we prepped earlier

20120506-091634.jpg

Tyler put together a sour cream/salsa dip while I got to work on some homemade guac. And yes, I can now say I make the best guac ever!!!

20120506-091736.jpg

Just look at that yummy ooey-gooeyness!!!!

And Tyler’s: super delish!

20120506-091825.jpg

Round one of margaritas tragically finished super fast, so I shimmied on into the kitchen for round 2: strawberry!

20120506-091930.jpg

Do I look super disappointed or what.

20120506-091958.jpg

Round 3 was pineapple ( not the best, but Tyler and I managed to get through them)

20120506-092049.jpg

It was at that point that we noticed how nice it was outside. Hold the phone…..what?!!! didn’t I wake up in a blizzard? What the hell, Calgary? Ah well, we’ll take it!

20120506-092212.jpg
(that’s 9am vs. 9pm)

We had stuffed our bellies with way too much dip that we didn’t have our tacos until 10pm! I hear indigestion bells ringing!

20120506-092321.jpg

They were still good, nonetheless. Best part was, when we both finished, we sat hunched over our plates with one messy hand (we didn’t have napkins and were a little too buzzed to do anything about it for about 10 minutes) I definitely snorted.

So there you have it… Our little tiny at home fiesta. I totally loved it.

And now, it’s a bright and sunny Sunday here in Calgary and I am planning in dragging Tyler out with me for a lovely walk/hike. I have a hunch that many calories need to be burned πŸ˜‰

Fiesta!

I still can’t believe the drastic weather change. Just yesterday, I was lounging on the front deck with Layla

20120505-141426.jpg

20120505-141434.jpg

The tulips were a-bloomin’

20120505-141501.jpg

20120505-141508.jpg

And we went for a long, sunny walk

20120505-141542.jpg

20120505-141553.jpg
(apparently Layla misplaced her ears in these photos)

And of course, she rolled

20120505-141632.jpg

20120505-141639.jpg

A summery dinner of burgers and corn on the Barbie were consumed (I had a flaxseed bun. Yumm)

20120505-141732.jpg

Now, today… Ugh. Such barfy weather. But I rallied and had a nice bfast of Quaker Oatmeal Squares w/sliced banana and almond milk.

20120505-141937.jpg

2 hours and a finished book later, Tyler woke up. We picked up some Starbucks then headed off to Costco.

20120505-142023.jpg

20120505-142028.jpg

We picked up a ton of essentials and a ton of cinco de mayo necessities. Now we’re back home, finished prepping the guac and other dips, and chilling the Margie mix.

I have a 60 min cardio/strength session planned here at home, then it’s time to get our fiesta on!

How’s everyone else celebrating?!

Walking the River and failed cornbread. Sigh.

Yesterday was just your average Hump Day. (I already recapped for you my workout in the last post)

Breakfast was another smoothie bowl (cranberries, bananas, chocolate protein powder and almond milk)

I went back to the library to return my last read, and ended up browsing for a few minutes. I left with three more books. I’m starting with this one:

I am already about 1/3 through and it’s pretty good. The story is about a girl traveling to Burma to find her father that disappeared 4 years earlier.

I ran a few errands in the morning…some of them are top secret, but ONE I will share with you. I brought a bunch of bottles to the bottle return center and I made a whopping $3.30. That can get me about a quart of gas here. Moving on…..

Lunch was another pile of veggies

Layla and I went down to the river and walked around for about an hour or so. The rain has been on and off for the last week, but I really wanted to get her some fresh air. Girlfran got her groove on in that icy water.

We had gone to Bowmont ParkΒ where there are some really great trails, off leash areas, and water access. Layla and I even came across some spots that had grassy areas and picnic benches. Noted for better-weather walks!

I have to keep the dang dog on her leash because she would run into the water and never come out. Or she’d run into the woods. Or somewhere -anywhere- that I couldn’t her back. All the other dogs on just about every walk we take are off leash. You’d think she’d get the hint that maybe she should be a little bit more obedient (Insert giant HA! from me)

While we walked, I Skyped with both my parents to just chit chat and show them some of the area we were walking through. Then, this happened:

Yeah, yeah, sure the picture makes that appear much more peaceful than it really was. All of a sudden that thing came out of nowhere. And it was LOUD. So, I started running with Layla away from the train (Still Skyping, mind you). The camera was shaky and I was screaming and the dog was pulling on the leash and darting around every tree. Then the train was gone. Silent. Like it was never there. You’re welcome Mom and Dad for the 2 minute short-action film.

On the way home, I stopped at the store to pick up some dins and I walked out with these puppies:

Dinner turned out pretty OK as well.

Pork tenderloin, applesauce, roasted beets and cornbread.

Unfortunately, the cornbread turned out to be too salty (I think I may have accidently put 1 tbsp of baking soda instead of 1 tsp. whoops) So that was completely inedible. Bummer) Otherwise, it was a pretty satisfying meal. I had rubbed the tenderloin in basil, s&p, cooked on a skillet for about 1 min each side, then roasted at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. Perfection, if I do say so myself.

Quick notes: Survivor was good. I hate Kim with a firey passion, and Revenge was PVR’d (that’s what Canadians call DVR. pff).

This morning’s workout was 45 minutes of at-home kickboxing, followed by 15 minutes of upper body strength (as if kickboxing isn’t an upper body workout. HA!)

I am off to a medical exam (for immigration. EW I want to barf. I hate doctors) then a blood test (again for immigration. Again EW and AGAIN I want to barf.) I know for a fact that I will pass out when they try to stick me with a needle. I am getting nervous just typing this. Insert Heebie Jeebies NOW. ahglishdslkajsflkhdgs WISH ME LUCK!

Phew, I’m tired. Are you? Zzzz…

Ok I guess busy was an understatement. After my early morning gum session/desperate housewives/breakfast this morning, I showered, then was on hold for 30 minutes on two different phone calls. One to pay some insurance crap, and the other to schedule a few medical appointments for my immigration paperwork. Talk about a gross waste of time.

I did, however, make use of this wait time by straightening my hair and doing my makeup. So I guess it wasn’t a total waste.

First stop after that speed bump was the library! Look who got herself a library card!

20120430-205838.jpg

I even checked out a real live book

20120430-205927.jpg

They offer eBooks, and I already have a few on hold. Not gonna lie, I’m excited. Free>not free.

Next stop: photographer. I needed some quality shots for my PR application. Did they turn out? Let’s just say they meet the qualifications.

Then, Hallmark. Got a few cards and become a rewards member. Free cards and cash back never hurt anyone.

20120430-210214.jpg

By then, I had worked up an appetite (AM workouts really rev the metabolism!) and I threw together a real good bowl of deliciousness.

20120430-210332.jpg

I mixed some of the leftover stir fry with some scrambled eggs and topped with black beans and salsa. Tummy= satisfied.

I took Layla in my next round of tasks. Only because she was involved in one of them: nail clipping. I took her to The Paw Spa. She was in and out in less than 5 minutes and they did a great job. Layla was a little freaked, but when is she not.

Then, we went around the corner to mail some of the cards purchased earlier in the day, and around another corner to the used sports store for these babies:

20120430-210826.jpg

Phew, I’m just tired typing about my day! When we got home, I took care of some laundry, then cozied up to the first 100 pages of my book.

20120430-210956.jpg

I wasn’t planning on reading that much, but a line from the first page got me hooked:

20120430-211041.jpg

You’d keep reading too, if you saw that line.

Dinner was a bowl of oats with walnuts, chopped medjool dates, a heap of pumpkin ad pumpkin pie spice.

It hit the spot.

I made Tyler a hodge podge dinner (hodge podge= delicious but ridiculously easy to make), and he spent some time in his office. I don’t know what he was doing, but I heard techno/electronic music coming from that direction. I didn’t bother asking.

We just finished Underworld and are rounding out the evening with an episode of Top Gear

I’m about to run into a dilemma and I am not sure how to approach the situation. Backstory: I have been reading my eBooks on night mode in bed so that Tyler can sleep while I read at all hours of the night. Now, I have a real book. Flashlight under the covers, or put the bedside lamp on the floor and lay halfway over the bed so it won’t disturb the man? And no, I’m not going in another room.

Hmm….

Busy bee.. And a great workout!

Unlike Garfield, I am loving this Monday

Breakfast was a chocolate strawberry protein bowl. I mixed chocolate protein powder, fresh strawberries, almond milk and ice in the blender and topped with a cup of Honey Nut Cheerios

20120430-090619.jpg

Now onto that pot of coffee….

Lots more to do today! I was going to cross ‘walk with Layla’ off my list next, but she seems to be oh-so-comfortably sleeping. And by comfortable I mean holy crap that looks painful.
