Single Arm Hang Snatch…that exercise name just makes me laugh

Today was CRAZY busy. As crazy busy as it can get for an unemployed immigrant such as myself.

  • I cleaned
  • I cooked
  • I cleaned some more
  • I did homework
  • I searched for wedding venues
  • I called American insurance billing companies because my former employer in the states still hasn’t fixed my claims
  • I worked out
  • I played with the dog
  • I cleaned even more

Let’s get in to more detail: I cleaned the bathrooms and almost threw up. I rearranged the bed in our room and found KitKat wrappers and a bra under the bed. Weird. I read about Consumer Behavior (as if I haven’t taken enough courses on this topic in Undergrad). I sent tons of emails to venues to see if they’re available for the date we want. I got put on hold on my long distance phone calls, only to have no resolution. I did a killer sweaty workout. I smacked the dog around a bit (and by ‘smacked’ I mean I pet her and played with her toy and carried her around like a baby). I mopped the kitchen floor.

There.

Lemme fill you in on this killer workout.

I started like this:

Layla and I were ready to get our sweat on. And get our sweat on we did.

The exercises:

  • 5 pushups
  • 10 tuck jumps
  • 15 situps
  • 20 squats

Repeat 10 times through for time.

My time:

And I ended up looking like this

And since I felt obligated to work it a little more, I did this:

  • 12 bicep curls
  • 12 lateral raises
  • 12 hammer curls
  • 12 single arm hang snatch (for each arm)—-> seriously, I chuckled for a good 5 min when I typed this
  • 12 dumbbell punches (L+R=1)

And now it is time to shower and situate myself on the stability ball for a little ab action while watching The Bachelorette!

*Note: I hate the show, and I really don’t care for the actual Bachelorette, but I love to watch how chee-ee-eesy those boys can get. Does anyone else get really bothered by Emily’s mouth? Her teeth are weird.

Pizza, Pushups, and Pink

Top of the mornin’ to ya, folks!

It is finally the end of the week (let’s all pause to do a collective ‘phewwww’).

I have no workout for you today (but if you want one, check out my Workouts page!!!) partly because my body is dead. More specifically, my right hamstring. I don’t think I have ever pulled a hammy in my life until today. Cray-balls. But, I still want to get in some sort of activity since I plan on throwing back a few brewskies with T-t-t-tyler tonight.

Instead of a workout post, or a recipe (which I gave you last night) I thought I would provide a few bits of entertainment.

1. This video art is hilarious. I don’t know if it was better with the musical accompaniment, but I was laughing my little ass off.

2. Make this pizza this weekend. If you are like Jessica (and me) then you should make two and force your man to indulge as well. Hey man, I made you food. And it has meat in it. The other ingredients should be minor details for you and therefore you should eat it. Otherwise, there is a comfy looking couch over there that may become your new bed.

3. Ok, now I feel guilty. No workout post, but a pizza post?! That’s cruel. So, while your pizza is baking away, try this workout. It’s quick and easy. And you’ll sweat. And then be tempted to eat another piece of pizza..

We interrupt this post for some SUPER SAD news:

I hand washed my 2 new pink Lululemon pieces last night. And, well…

Actually, the bleeding was the least of my worries. The worst part was that the sweat from my workouts while wearing them STAINED. As in, my Wunder Unders permanently display swass and my tank shows awful back and ab sweat. I was torn apart last night. So much money spent on 2 pieces and both are ruined. You bet your bippy I emailed AND tweeted to Lululemon about my problems.

Enough of my ranting..I have an episode of What Not to Wear to watch.

Jenny from the block

A couple of announcements:

1.) I finally added a “workouts” page for easy access to all the workouts I post.

2.) I am officially nutcaseinpoint.com now! Aka: I bought my domain name. Probably not super exciting to anyone but me.

3.) My bestest friend is having a baby GIRLLLLLL and I can finally say it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On to the workout…

I have been spoiled. Teaching two outdoor bootcamps has really converted me to an outdoor worker-outer. So, because it is beautiful out, I am going to get my sweat on outside. My “block” to be exact.

My house is somewhere in this picture, I’m just not going to tell you which it is. But, it is somewhere along this makeshift track that I am going to use for my cardio portion of today’s workout. (Note: the ‘sides’ have a good incline. You just can’t tell in this 2-D pic)

Round 1

  • Run the block (Crap, now I have this song in my head)
  • 10 spiderman pushups
  • 10 star jumps
  • 10 burpees
  • x3

Round 2

  • Run the block (lunge the sides)
  • 10 squats with single arm overhead press
  • 10 curtsey lunge with lateral raise
  • 10 plank rows
  • x3

Round 3

  • Run the block (skip jump the sides)
  • 10 one legged bicep curl w/overhead press (switch legs halfway)
  • 10 weighted arm circles
  • 10 tricep kickbacks
  • x3

Round 4

  • Run the block
  • 10 situps
  • 10 single arm, single leg plank holds
  • 10 weighted Russian twists

I’m off to get this started..hope everyone is having a great Thursday!

A workout to do when you don’t feel like working out, but you know you should

Like the Young the Giant song, “my body tells me no/but I won’t quit/Cause I want more”

Yup, I did this workout this morning, and.it.was.a-muh-zing.

I did that in the front porch with Layla this am and I was smiling when I finished.

Wait, didn’t I just workout for like eleventy hours yesterday? Mmhmm and I was still itching to get my sweat on today.

After my 48 minute killer, I persuaded Twyla to come downtown with me to meet up with Jen for another workout. We ended up doing something mighty similar to my AM session, and we finished with a jog around the park and back to Jen’s house. She even brought her baby for the workout! Note to self: have a good baby like Kaitlyn to bring to workouts! 🙂

I’m off to watch Tyler’s football game, so it’s a short but sweet post for now. I hope to recap the Group Strength course I took this weekend sometime in the near future!

Ps: so mad I left my phone in my car while the four of us girls worked out

Pps: I finally got my health care card today so I’m free to start making free appointments!

Ppps: Bethenny Frankel’s new talk show doesn’t seem to be airing in Calgary. (unless you can prove me otherwise)

Pppps: sunflower butter came into my life this morning. I missed it so much, I gave it a hug. With my mouth.

Anyone obsessed with a particular workout/exercise right now?

Ps: anyone have anything they want me to post about?! Anyone??!!

The Post-Buyer’s-Remorse Workout

Where do I start? How about after I took Layla for a long walk yesterday, I ended up dragging my booty to the mall. I really shouldn’t have, but I made out like a bandit. I got 2 dresses and a necklace from Banana Republic; a dress, sandals and pajamas from Gap- and all that was for about $120. Not too shabby.

As soon as I got back home, I turned right around and ended up going to Tyler’s football game. Where he managed to dislocate his shoulder. Not good, since today he is off golfing with people from work. I hope it doesn’t make it worse! He was having so much fun on the field and it was only the first game. Perhaps my persuasive powers to get him back in the gym will finally take into effect now that he knows he’s gotta keep himself strong to prevent injuries!

With all that hubbub, I was only able to squeeze in an at-home workout last night. Not really what I was aiming for, but it was better than nothing. I ended up doing about 20 minutes of kickboxing, then another 25 minutes of strength stuff: stability ball reverse lunges, plie squats, weighted stability ball oblique twists, chest press and flys.

Today, though= different story. I completed the Fitnessista’s Schweaty September Workout

Mine was only slightly modified:

Cardio #1

1. Shake Senora- Pitbull (Warm up)

2. Americano- Lady Gaga (Speedier)

3. Pass at Me- Timbaland (Tabata; 20 seconds work, 10 rest, repeated 8x)

Strength 12-15 reps of each move 2-3 sets

Front/Back overhead press (Using a body bar, do an overhead press, then bring the weight down and behind your head so it almost rests on your shoulders. Then press it back up and have the bar come down in front of your face, almost resting on your chest. Each full front/back movement counts as 1)

Shoulder raises (first set: lateral raise; 2nd set: front raise; 3rd set: combo of the two)

Cardio #2

1.Princess of China- Coldplay and Rihanna (moderate pace, increasing the resistance every 1 minute)

2. Papa Don’t Preach- Madonna (30 seconds speedy; 1 minute recovery)

3. Love on Top- Beyonce (moderate speed)

Strength 12-15 reps of each move 2-3 sets

Right leg squat + bicep curl, regular weighted squat, left leg squat + hammer curl, 25 calf raises

Step Ups: 1 minute each leg

Cardio #3

1. Boomerang- DJ Felli Fel (2 minute warm up then pace for the rest of the song)

2. Please Don’t Stop the Music- Rihanna (Tabata; 20 seconds work, 10 rest, repeated 8x)

3. Back in Time- Pitbull (moderate pace)

In my workout, I did the elliptcal for Cardio portions #1 & #3 and used the spin bike for #2. Here is the playlist I used for the hour long workout. It timed out perfectly- even with the machine wipe-down times!

Now, I must write up tonight’s bootcamp! I will check back in with that workout later tonight 🙂

PS: This is my first month in the Foodie Penpal program run by The Lean Green Bean. I just got my penpal today, and I am super excited to send her a package full of goodies! The best part: She has a list for US and Canadian residents and penpals are paired with those who reside in the same country to alleviate any customs/shipping problems. Love!!
