No-Weight Workout + Tabata Abs!

Hey Guys!

As you know, since I’ve posted it a BAJILLION times, I am currently taking part in Round 5 of Best Body Bootcamp. BUT- the program that Tina wrote up is really only for Monday-Friday (totally up to you to go in order and on the days specified, but work with me here). This leaves Saturday option for cardio or workout of choice and Sunday as a designated Rest Day. I’ve decided to get ahead of myself and write up a pretty sweet workout to do for my workout of choice on Saturday and I thought it would be only fair to share with you (since I know it’s sometimes so much easier to have something already prepared and to follow rather than making something up on your own!)

This workout is pretty self explanatory. I broke it into 4 sections: upper body, lower body, cardio, and abs. Within those sections there are 5 exercises to complete for the specified time. If you want to really be killer, go through the sucker 2x! The best part of this workout is that it can be done ANYWHERE.

I know sometimes I post a lot of workouts that incorporate a variety of equipment that may not be accessible to everyone, so this is something that everyone can complete. NO EXCUSES!

Image

Ok, maybe you need 2 things: a floor and a wall. Pretty sure those are easy to come by where you are.

Second workout I have to share is the Ab Workout I completed last night after my sweaty 40 minute spin at the gym. Best part of this workout is that it is in tabata form! Meaning there are rest periods! And lots of them! (Tabata: 20 seconds work, 10 seconds rest, 8x through)

Image

I don’t think you can really get bored with that workout, either. There’s like…a lot of different ab exercises.

Reminder: I have been slowly but surely updating the Recipes and Workouts pages. Click on over for a little inspiration!

Some Workouts

Thanks for the feedback on my last post. It really made me feel good about my little bloggy life 🙂

I think it’s only fair that I share with you my latest workouts. Since I’m actually typing this post ahead of time (gasp!) the following workouts are from Monday, 3/25 and Tuesday, 3/26. I was actually giddy before, during and after each workout because I knew I couldn’t NOT share!

Here goes.

Monday, I took the strength portion of my workout from Tina by doing the Defying Gravity Workout she recently posted (if you click on the link, it’ll take you directly to that workout).

Image

I followed it up with an awesome HIIT run

Image

Tuesday, I adapted a full-body tabata workout (I was in the mood to continue targeting all the major muscle groups rather than focusing on upper body, lower body or core). I ended up with this gem:

Reminder: tabatas are 20 seconds of work, 10 seconds of rest repeated 8x through for a total of 4 minutes each round. For this particular workout, you will alternate between the two moves in each round. i.e.: Move 1 for 20 seconds, rest 10 seconds, move 2 for 20 seconds, rest 10 seconds, repeat 4x.

Image

I immediately followed this strength circuit with 20 minutes of spin (rolling hills and resistance intervals) then this 20 minute treadmill run:

In case you haven’t noticed, I’ve been playing around with PicMonkey. Gotta make these workouts look as pretty as can be!

Now that I’ve hopefully inspired you with my strength and cardio workouts, here are some pictures of my little stink monkey (who is currently no so stinky since she came in the shower with me yesterday. AND LOVED IT.)

Got any good workouts to share??!

Weekly Workouts and Such

You know what I haven’t done in a while? Post about my workouts. So…let’s see what I’ve been up to in the fitness department lately..

Image

  • Sunday (2/24): 40 minutes of spin followed by lower body work
  • Monday (2/25): Workout A from BBB followed by 30 minutes of spin
  • Tuesday (2/26): Intervals run for 50 minutes
  • Wednesday (2/27): TRX/cardio circuit workout at home
  • Thursday (2/28): 30 minutes spin and 10 minutes row
  • Friday (3/1): Upper body/core circuits and 30 minute run
  • Saturday (3/2): Active rest day! Walk all over the Home & Garden Expo then throughout downtown Calgary

It was the last week of Best Body Bootcamp, but for some reason, I wasn’t really into it last week. But I did make sure to incorporate a big enough mix of strength and cardio through a variety of ways (machines, body weight, intervals, steady state, etc.)

On tap for this week…

  • Sunday (3/3): Full Body Circuits and 30 minutes spin
  • Monday (3/4): Lower Body & Core Circuit and 30 minute run
  • Tuesday (3/5): Deck of Cards workout and 10-10-10 cardio
  • Wednesday (3/6): TRX circuits and 40 minutes spin
  • Thursday (3/7): 50 minute run
  • Friday (3/8): Upper Body Circuits, 10-10-10 cardio
  • Saturday (3/9): Active Rest or an old BBB workout

In other news, here are some foods that I’ve made/ate lately (recipes may have been altered based on either what I already had on hand or modified to make slightly healthier)

Tacos and Pancakes

Ok, my recipe last night worked, so I can share it with you. IT IS SO GOOD.

Image

Cilantro-Lime Pulled Pork Tacos

Here’s what you need:

  • Pork tenderloin
  • Jar of salsa verde
  • Lime juice
  • Onion
  • Cilantro
  • Roma Tomatoes
  • Tortillas
  • Other fun stuff

Here’s what you do:

  1. Put the tenderloin in the crock pot. Cover it with the salsa verde and about 3 good squirts of lime juice. Low for 6-8 hours or High for 3-4 hours.
  2. Chop up a yellow onion and a bunch of cilantro. Put it in the fridge.
  3. An hour prior to eating, shred the pork (keep it in the crock pot), and add about 1/3 of the onion/cilantro mix.
  4. Assemble your tacos. I used corn tortillas, the pulled pork, extra onions/cilantro, diced tomatoes, mango, black beans, and guac.

Image

I could probably eat this everyday and be happy.

I could also eat these chocolate oat pancakes everyday, too:

Image

Chocolate Oat Pancakes

Here’s what you need:

  • 1 c oats
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1/4 c unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 t baking powder
  • 1 scoop chocolate protein powder
  • 3 T plain greek yogurt

Here’s what you do:

  1. Beat all the ingredients together. The key is to BEAT them. Beat them REAL GOOD. (there’s egg whites in there, y’all)
  2. Spray a griddle and divide batter into 4 pancakes. The end.

I topped mine with sunflower seed frosting (a mixture of my homemade sunflower seed butter and almond milk, heated in the microwave and stirred well) and some chia seeds. With a side of blueberries.

Yesterday’s workout was 40 minutes of spin. The gym was PACKED but I managed to snag a bike. A crappy bike. The seat collapsed halfway through the ride. At least I was in 2nd position when it happened, or that could have been AWKWARD (or a reat awk spot story for Athena’s blog)

Image

Today’s workout was Workout B from BBB and it was killer- a real upper body blaster! I was super pumped throughout the workout though because I wore my brand new Lululemon top! Oh, and 30 minutes of speed work on the treadmill. Not too shabby.

Oh, and in regards to my EXCITING news from yesterday…I have decided this will be my life career:
