Friday ‘Fings (instead of ‘things’. Haha get it? Ok, nevermind)

So it’s official, my masters came in the mail yesterday. I also got a separate diploma for my certificate in marketing.

Not too shabby. Although, it does make me wonder how employers look into the credibility of these- do they just take my word for it that I hauled ass for an extra 4 years (and $30,000)?

Recapping yesterday:
-I ran errands with my mom
-I did a 40 minute treadmill interval
-I went to the local watering hole for a few hours (and managed to ONLY drink H2O!)

This morning I woke up feeling like crap. Couldn’t blame it on booze since I had none. Methinks it was all the second hand smoke. As a matter or fact, I can still taste/feel that nasty stuff in my lungs. I chose to make a hearty batch of whole wheat pancakes topped with Nutella to go with my daily POT of coffee.

20130118-213526.jpg
I totally forgot how much the altitude plays a part in baking and cooking! My pancakes in Calgary are usually supah dupah flufftastic, but these (same recipe) were flat as a pancake. I guess that’s pretty appropriate.

20130118-213659.jpg
I only put about 2 tbsp of the chocolatey goodness on the stack, and they tasted like CAKE. yum.

20130118-213820.jpg

After an indulgent (but healthy- minus the Nutella) breakfast, I headed over to the mall to get some staples. 2 shirts from JCPenney’s and some FRS chews that we’re on sale sale sale.

I wasn’t hungry at all by the time my parents opted to go out for lunch, but I accompanied them since it was at a local brewery whose beer I had yet to try. No brainer there.
Anyways, Cooper’s Cave is just around the corner from home, so we zipped on over. I saw the special for 6 5oz samples of their home brew (only $10!). Here’s what I had to choose from:

20130118-214552.jpg
I got the top 6. All were tasty except the Red Ale. Not my cuppa-tea AT ALL.

20130118-214649.jpg
I also decided to get a house salad so that my lunch was not strictly liquid. There were SO many yummy things in the menu, but I just wasn’t hungry. I can’t wait to go back there again before I leave so I can take advantage of some other goodies!

Tonight’s workout was Workout C with cardio intervals courtesy of Best Body Bootcamp. I took this opportunity to run up and down the stairs for each 5 minute cardio blast. Talk about a A) perfect way to annoy your parents when they’re trying to watch tv, and B) great way to change it up from the typical jumping jacks, jump rope, yadda yadda.

So here’s a funny story: (WARNING: it’s not a funny story at all) my mom gave me a nice belly button ring for Christmas like 8 years ago. About two years ago, the stone fell out. Me, being the lazy bum that I am, left the ring in *sans stone* and with twisted prongs. It wasn’t until I came home this past week that she got me another ring to replace the nasty one.

I guess what I’m trying to say is Thanks Mom.

I am currently in my jams watching everything that’s being aired on Bravo, since we don’t get that network in Calgary. I am entirely too addicted.

Night!

Back in the New York Groove

Hi guys! Unfortunately for the next couple of weeks you’re going to have to suffer through reading some ill-written posts (worse than the usual) because I only brought my iPad with me. I considered using my moms laptop, but that’s a death trap.

So the last few days have been fun! I got to the airport bright and early yesterday only to fall victim to an incredibly long customs line. Like, 3x the length it usually is. After making it through a long check in line, long customs line, security line and Starbucks line, I just made it on my flight. Only to sit at the gate for 45 minutes while they de-iced the plane. (couldn’t they have done that before we all got on board?!)

It was a full flight so they had been offering travel vouchers, yadda yadda. Well, the plane gods were with me at that moment because the middle seat in my row went unoccupied, sweet victory.

Because of the delay, I then had to SPRINT to my connecting flight. (No casual gate lunges for this girl). Then as luck would have it, the flight crew was late, so we sat on that plane for another hour before taking off.

Whatever. I was home by 4:30.

I hadn’t eaten all day because of all my rushing to wait on planes, so it was nice to have one of my old favorites

The Tropical Chicken Salad from the 99

I also swung by the famed local watering hole for a frosty beverage and some catching up with friends.

Today, I:
-wore one of my new pv.body outfits. Holy moly was it comfy. If you like what you see, click on that link and take the style quiz. After signing up, you’ll get 20% off! (But only through that link). I already posted a photo of the outfit on Instgram, but I’m gonna show you another that I took post-run on the treadmill we have in the basement. Note: this is the best mirror ever.

20130114-235319.jpg

-did the designated workout from Best Body Bootcamp. It consisted of a strength circuit (with slow, concentrated movements). Rather than doing bursts of cardio between each set, I opted to hit the treadmill after running through 3 sets. I did a smooth 30 minutes while watching The Biggest Loser.

20130114-235637.jpg

-went to Target!
-made chocolate chunk cookies
-made Crock Pot Santa Fe Chicken
(And by ‘made’ I meant that I basically made my parents make it. Hey, deciding what to make is half the battle!)

20130114-235913.jpg

I am really excited for the next couple of weeks because I know it’s going to have a lot of fun things in store.

Starting with tomorrow. My lovely mother was kind enough to go to a bridal expo the other day and she found a really awesome DJ for the wedding. I have a meeting with him tomorrow (totally booking him) and then I’m off to Saratoga to try on my dress! Honestly, I love my dress and the place where I got it has provided the best service ever. So, to my upstate New Yorkers, head to Lily Saratoga for bridal stuff. Seriously. (The fitting has the potential to be followed by some shopping and lunching and drinking)

That’s it for now. I am exhausted!

Pocket Full of Sunshine

1. Yesterday’s workout was a sweaty interval workout on the bike. 35 minutes and I was done! Only two more workouts for this week and I can ‘rest’ while I sit on a couple of flights on Sunday. (I’m no stranger to lunges and squats by my gate…)

2. We sampled only one beer from our first batch of home brew and it was super good!

Image

3. I started packing. It’s a good thing my drinking pants are also my workout pants. Saves room to bring stuff back.

4. Took Layla to the park this afternoon. Pup was a mental beast with all the fresh snow. I took about 04957203957209 pictures, but will only bore you with two.

5. I am making these tomorrow. Insert evil laugh and terrible victory dance here. I will DEFINITELY have to do Airport Gate Lunges if I have too many.

6. I posted this video on my personal facebook page yesterday and I still think it is hilarious. I had my iTunes playing pretty loud while I was doing stuff throughout the house, and the Natasha Bedingfield song Pocket Full of Sunshine came on. It immediately made me think of this video clip because the montage is EXACTLY what I was doing yesterday. SO. FUNNY. Seriously people, laugh with me on this one. I got like no feedback on facebook and I was just dying for someone to comment something like “hahaha wow Jen you are so funny to be dancing with your dog and doing chores while singing that song!” But no such luck.

moving on..

7. Wait, there is no 7. I can’t think of anything else to write. Perhaps I should workout to clear my head. OK!

(PS: follow me on Instagram @nutcaseinpoint. Samesies with Twitter. And like my Facebook page)

This post has a little bit of everything.

I’ve been up since 4am. Involuntarily.

I thought I’d be able to sleep in a bit since I had a LONG day yesterday. Here’s what my Sunday looked like:

  • 6 am wakeup when dog started fidgeting and crying. Butt problems again, you know how it is. And obviously it would be a Sunday because that’s the one day my vet is closed so of course I had to go to the ER clinic and spend even more money on a routine procedure.

Image

I’m sick of spending money on a routine anal expression, so I had the vet teach me how to do it. Luckily, my dog is totally comfortable with fingers up her butt because I REALLY practiced.

  • Baked these brownies. I honestly had a little too much fun making them. And that’s probably why the scale registered a slightly higher number this morning.

Image

  • Put Christmas away. 😦
  • Ran 32 minutes of intervals at the gym (didn’t want to do strength because TODAY is the first day of Best Body Bootcamp! And now that it’s Monday, I can tell you that I already did the day 1 workout. They consisted of pretty easy moves, except they were slow and controlled rep counts. I’ll let you know how THAT feels tomorrow). Oh, and the dog joined in on every move.

Image

  • Made chicken salad sandwiches for dinner. Best part: it was on a Whole Wheat Farmers Loaf from Cobs Bread. Yummo.

Image

  • And then I did a ton of other boring little things that don’t deserve a bullet point. The end.

Did you see my post from yesterday though about the special Pv.Body 30 Day challenge? You should check it out. *I* can save *you* 20% on awesome fitness gear. *You* with then thank *me*. Plus, if you sign up, you can join the challenge and win some sweet prizes.

Did you watch the premiere of Buck Wild last week? Because I did. What did I take away from that show? A ‘Holler’ is a place where you can holler to any and all of your neighbors and they’ll hear you. (a little red-necky if you ask me) Also, this song- LOVE IT.

I have also taken to this song as of late:

I always try to sound like her when I sing it. In my head, I’m spot on. In other people’s heads, I sound like a chicken.

Did you know that my wedding in is 6 months from yesterday? Also, my birthday is in 6 months from today. TO RECAP: The first week in July will be EPIC. My favorite holiday (4th of July, my wedding, AND my birthday within four days. Excitement cannot be contained.)

Did you also know that I’m going back to the States this Sunday?

So far, my dance card is pretty empty, so get your requests in if you want to be graced by my presence (assuming I somewhat know you and you are in the Upstate NY area. I’m talking to you, silent high school classmate readers. Actually no, not you. But you will find my mother and I sitting at the bar at the 99 in the mall at some point in the next two weeks. Or me at the Y. One of the two.)

If you just did some math from the above paragraph, you will have concluded that today is my half birthday. Woo hoo 26.5!

I have decided to drive out to Banff on Wednesday. I will be on the lookout for bears, wolves, and moose. I might also buy some fudge, Lululemon, and a Canada sweatshirt while I’m there. (Haha, I totally just typo-ed it to read sweatshit)

Looking for a new deal site to add to your daily email? Honest to God, Rue LaLa is like my favorite site for deals- they have EVERYTHING. Sorry, Canada, they don’t deliver to you, so I suggest to chum up to an American friend or you set up a PO Box in your closest American town. Check that site out, yo.

Or you can check out Zulily. They ship to Canada. Pretty sweet.

Tell me something you did yesterday. Or Today. Or will do this week.

I’m back

I honestly just haven’t felt like blogging lately. Mostly because my posts would probably sound like every other blogger’s posts about winter or Christmas or presents or favorites from 2012, etc…but then when you take those topics out of the equation, I really have nothing to write about. Therein lies the dilemma.

If you follow me on Instagram, you pretty much get the idea of how life has been as of late. Lots of yummy eats, and even more adult beverages. In some sort of brief recap:

December 21st– We went to The Keg. Insert the best filet mignon meal ever. And a martini, of course.

Image

December 22nd– Lunch at Smashburger

Image

Christmas Eve- made pork tenderloin with broccoli, balsamic mushrooms, and 7 grain rice. And double chocolate cookies 😉

Image

Image

Christmas Day- Cinnamon Buns for breakfast. Ham, creamed corn, glazed carrots, and twice baked potatoes for dinner.

Image

Image

December 29th– Eggs Benny for breakfast. Homemade pizza for dins.

Ok, food pictures are over. Onto workout stuff.

Tyler got me some pretty effin sweet gifts this Christmas. Two of my ‘biggies’ were fitness related. TRX and a Nike+ Fuelband!

Image

Tyler actually completely dumped my computer for me (so that it would run faster) and he downloaded the new software. It runs SO MUCH FASTER. Once that was done, I set up my Nike+ profile and slapped on the FuelBand right away to see how it worked. And I totally love it! It tracks my active time, distance, calories, and the Fuel I have earned for the day. So awesome.

And I broke out the TRX bands the other day to incorporate a pretty sweet full-body tabata workout. (I’ll post that workout soon!)

Image

I signed up for Round 4 of Best Body Bootcamp! The sign up deadline is tomorrow and Bootcamp starts January 7th for 8 weeks (and it’s only $25!)

Image

Layla tried to take part in all my at-home workouts.

Image

I also got to the gym quite a few times for cardio sessions (spin/run)

And on a final note, Tyler booked my trip home! I leave for NY on January 13th for a couple weeks, and I’m super excited!

Ok wait, one more final note: Check out pv.body (if you haven’t already).

It’s the monthly mail subscription that assesses your fitness apparel likes and sends you one top and one bottom each month. I suggest you check it out… I have gotten a few of the boxes already and love the clothing! (Free returns.exchanges, too!)

What are some good eats you’ve had recently?

What about workouts?!!
