Friday
I opted out of my morning workout in order to do my hair and slap on some makeup. I am so over the whole process of attempting to look human, but it does make me feel better to do it once in a while! After Wes’s morning nap, we headed wayyyyyyyyy down south to attend the Spruce Meadows International Christmas Market. There were a ton of vendors, but it was too packed for me to navigate the stroller (solo, I might add!). Wes was getting antsy and it made me get anxious and antsy as well, so we left after a couple of hours. Plus, it wasn’t as good as people were hyping it up to be. I only bought a couple bars of locally made soap!
At least it was something for us to do and get out of the house. Wes did seem to enjoy looking at all the lights. I was glad I remembered to pack some food for me to snack on because there was practically nothing offered at the market. As soon as we got home, I also toasted a piece of banana bread and topped it with chocolate chips (mmmm melty!) and peanut butter.
I did my workout just as Tyler was coming home from work, then played around with Mr. Wes while Tyler made us turkey child for dinner. Might I add that Wes is starting to look more and more like me?
I had a glass of rosé once Wes went down and we watched Vacation before heading to bed. I thought the movie was hilarious.
Saturday
I woke up around 7am and was about to start pumping when I checked the monitor and saw that Wes had just flipped! Rather than having a slow-starting morning, I ran into his room and got him. Nothing major, but it totally woke me up for the day!
We had Wes’s pool class in the afternoon and he fell asleep just as we got back home. I ran out to pick up some toys for him off Kijiji, got some groceries, came home and he was STILL sleeping. Cut to 2 1/2 hours later and the kid finally woke up.
Tyler made DELICIOUS lasagna for dinner and I had to restrain myself from inhaling a piece once it was ready. (my stomach hasn’t been loving cheese/ice cream lately. OH THE TRAGEDY!)
We watched Avengers and most of Selfless before heading to bed.
Sunday
Ok, so Sunday was supposed to be my day to sleep in. BUT…I couldn’t. I TRIED SO HARD. Tyler got up at 7:30 and fed Wes while I pumped. Once I got back in bed, my mind was going a mile a minute thinking of all the things I wanted to get done for the day and I felt bad that I was in bed. So after another hour of trying to sleep, I finally got up.
I added some quinoa to my usual Sunday BAE and it was good!
Before putting Wes down for his nap, I took some 7 month pictures of him and managed to type up his 7 month update post while he slept.
Later in the afternoon, I took Wes out for a walk and a trip to the library. It was really nice outside! Fingers crossed we keep getting similar weather for a while.
While Wes was taking his second nap of the day, I did my workout and walked the dogs at a mucho brisk pace. I figured, hey, these pups need HIIT too. Cardio for the win!
Tyler made us chili lime chicken with sautéed veggies and rice. I am seriously spoiled with a guy that likes to be in the kitchen. He cooks, I bake. That said, I made some BANANA chocolate chip cookies right after dinner (you know, to use up the brown bananas). They’re really good- I highly recommend giving the recipe a try!
I’m thinking the above photo would make for a great wallpaper for my iPhone. I’m also thinking if I did that, I’d eat 352092732x more cookies every day.
Once Wes went to bed, Tyler and I picked out our Christmas cards and then it was time for b-e-d.
How was your weekend?
I can’t believe how big this boy is getting to be! I ‘unofficially’ weighed him on our home scale yesterday and he’s clocking in at 21.5 pounds- not too shabby!
Some stats:
He’s breastfed 3 times a day, has 2 solid food meals (about 1.5 squeeze packs per meal + oatmeal) and a bottle before bed. So yeah, with all that food, he’s producing some major craps. All’s healthy in that department. He’s taken a liking to pooping as we change him, so that’s been fun. He’s still not a fan of meat even though I’ve tried hiding it in other foods. It’s like his tastebuds just KNOW and he immediately gives a huge YUCK face and sticks out his tongue for me to get it out of his mouth.
He going to bed around 7/7:30 each night, sleeping until 7/7:30 the next morning. Only a few times has he woken up early in the morning for a feeding then gone back to sleep. His naps are still varying in time and length, but there’s usually a morning nap that’s anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours and an afternoon nap that’s 1-2 hours.
He has started to sit up on his own, but he’s still a bit unsteady and I have to sit behind him just in case. But his rolling! Man, he rolls like a fiend. He had already mastered the back to front roll, but this month he finally got a hang of the front to back. And has even steamrolled across the living room floor a few times. His dexterity is really improving and he grabs for things with both hands and can use his fingers to properly grasp a ring or his toys OR MY HAIR/BOOB. Oh, and he flipped over in his crib. Insert huge mom paranoia here.
Wes is still blowing tons of raspberries and babbles a LOT. As far as I can tell, he likes his pool class, but it mostly staring at everyone else in the pool. He kicks his feet and splashes a bit, and just this past week started bobbing his face into the water (HILARIOUS). During bath time, he’s transitioned from staring at himself in the mirror to jamming a washcloth into his mouth and sucking on it loudly. And the grunting! It’s not always when he poops…grunting is weird.
We’ve been reading a lot of books, too. I can’t tell if he 100% likes it, but he tolerates it. I mean seriously, it’s not like he can just get up and leave when I read to him…. I’ve read a lot of the Dr. Seuss books to him (ps: can someone tell me how to stop rhyming everything I see in my head now? It drives me crazy!!) and some other random ones I’ve found at the library. He loves to turn the pages of board books and his very favorite is the Dog book that has fuzzy pages and pull-tabs.
Oh, and singing. I sing to him a lot. About everything. I sing about making his food and changing his diaper…you name it. My classic go-to for nap/bed time is Do-Re-Me. Confession: He was extremely fussy a few days ago so I *might* have changed to words in the song to “go the fuck, the fuck to sleeeeeep, go the fuck-fuck-fuck to sleeeeeep’ Sing that in your head about 2309572 times. It gets funny. #goodmom #iswear
It might not look like it, but he’s getting a bit more hair. He’s wearing 12/18/24mo sleepers and 12/18 mo onesies and pants. You can forget about me buying him any shoes because his ankles are CANKLES and I’m not going to bother under he’s a bit more mobile. I don’t foresee him running any marathons anytime soon, so I’m not worried. PS: Hats are my favorite. He’s currently wearing 12-24mo in hats and I want to buy him all the hats. HATS. How many times can I say HATS? PPS: If you have any extra hats laying around, please send them my way.
Wes has started to get the hang of patting the dogs. Although, he tends to pat then GRAB so we’ll have to work on that. Layla tolerates it, but Reggie can be a bit temperamental, so I don’t want any accidents there. He giggles at them when they walk by and/or do something naughty.
His eczema isn’t so bad anymore, mostly because he’s strong enough now to stretch out his neck and get fresh air onto the skin more often. He usually prairie-dogs his neck when he’s sitting in his high chair. I can’t tell if it’s to look at what’s in the kitchen, or if he’s mimicking how he poos? Who knows. Eww, did I go too far there?
I can’t wait for the day when he purposely smiles for the camera! Kid always looks so dang serious in photos. He will reach for my phone when I’m taking his picture- just no smile. womp.
He loves to bang on the window (which drives the dogs nuts).
Wes likes to be thrown in the air and bounced around A LOT. Sometimes when I’m trying to get him to sleep, I might accidentally have too big of a bounce in my step and he loves it so much, he’ll go from drowsy to nonstop giggling. Then I face-palm myself and have to start all over with the getting-to-sleep process. It’s worth it though, because he’s so dang cute.
Oh- he finally got his feet in his mouth! Babies are so flexible. And he found his wiener. SO WEIRD- he grabs for it whenever he’s naked and sometimes will scratch at his diaper. What a boy.
And he’s still a totally mama’s boy. Needs me in his sight 24/7- preferably held. Another thing I don’t hate at all. In fact, I usually hold him an additional 5 minutes after he’s fallen asleep because I can’t stop staring at this cute little boy and thinking of how lucky I am to be his mama.
In case you missed it:
Monday
Mondays are the best and the worst. On one hand, Tyler is back to work, on the other hand, it’s a nice little way to refresh in the just-me-and-Wes time and get my butt back in gear. (Actually, gear for what? I have no idea.) The morning started with a 5 am wakeup call from Mr. Wes- we both were back to sleep by 6am for another 90 minutes, so no biggie. After breakfast and a workout, Wes went down for a nap FOR TWO BLIPPIN HOURS. I was able to shower, dry my hair, and put makeup on. I think this helps support the ‘get back in gear’ comment referenced earlier. It felt SO good.
After a late lunch, we headed out to Walmart for a bunch of random things. I posted a photo on Instagram when we got back in the car- kid throws some MEAN shade. I like it. (follow me on Instagram please! @nutcaseinpoint)
I had a 5pm dentist appointment- just for a cleaning- but it looks like I really should have my wisdom teeth taken out. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I was avoiding that at all costs. I do NOT want to have them out. NO NO NO NO NO. Don’t tell me it won’t be that bad, I just don’t want to go through with it. UGH.
The second worst feeling of the day was having to ruin my freshly cleaned teeth by eating leftover pulled pork. Luckily, pork is on my top ten list of delicious meats, so it was worth it.
I painted my nails before heading to bed. Note: don’t paint your nails a dark color and get into bed right after. Unless you want to sleep with precariously placed hands all night. It can get awkward.
Tuesday
Another 5am wakeup. But, because I have the sweetest damn child, he went back to sleep shortly after and I was able to get in a couple more hours of shut eye. AND GUESS WHAT? I didn’t do my workout first thing in the morning. Audible gasp? Haha, no. No one cares. I decided to stretch it out and relax in the morning with my little dude.
When he did go down for his nap, I got in not only my workout but a shower, some cleaning, food prep, etc.
Later in the afternoon, we walked over to the library then continued on for a nice long walk. The temperature read pretty chilly, but with no wind and the sun shining it was pretty great! Wes took another nap because of all the fresh air.
Tyler made an AMAZING pizza for dinner and afterwards I took the dogs for another walk. In the 6 years I’ve had Layla, this was the BEST she’s walked for me. She stayed by my side the entire time. It wasn’t until we got back to our street did I notice a slight limp, so I’m wondering if that had anything to do with it. Hopefully it was just a random thing (the limp, not the good behavior).
Tyler had already put Wes down for the night by the time I got back so we watched the latest episode of Walking Dead before heading to bed.
Wednesday
Well, Wes didn’t wake us up early today. In fact, he slept almost 13 hours! But, we got the pleasure of a 5:45am wakeup call by Reggie when he decided to jump off the bed and dry heave. Lovely!
I’ll say the day officially started at 8am when I finally went in and got Wes.
I did my workout while he played. Tyler slept in because of the stat holiday. It was a pretty great (slow) morning all around! Once Wes went down for a nap, I made Tyler and I some adult morning beverages. Only problem is that it took me 5 hours to drink. Still good though!
The boy is on a seriously rolling roll this week. I blink, and he’s flipped his way across the floor! I love it. We all hung out downstairs for the afternoon- Tyler played his new video game and Wes and I read a ton of new library books. I managed to run upstairs for a bit to whip up a batch of the BEST banana bread. It really is my favorite recipe (screw the ‘healthified’ banana breads. They don’t even come close to the REAL good stuff)
Wes took a long afternoon nap so Tyler and I just chilled out for a bit (yeah, there were about 2305972305927 things I could have done, but it was nice to just sit and do NOTHING).
For dinner, Tyler made Spicy Garlic Lime Chicken with zucchini and quinoa. The chicken was SO GOOD.
Afterwards, I bundled up *headlamp and all* and took the dogs for a walk. Day two of Layla being good on the leash! Crazy.
Thursday
Kind of a boring (in a good way) day. Typical breakfast. Typical morning routine. Typical workout.
OH WAIT. Different breakfast! No picture, but I had a smoothie that consisted of vega chocolate nutritional shake, pb2, oats, frozen greek yogurt cubes and almond milk. YUMMMM this was really good and even got rid of the Vega chalky taste.
Wes had his morning nap was quickly woken up by our noisy neighbor. From what we gather, he doesn’t work so he’s always fidgeting around the house. This morning, I saw him on the roof of his shed, then SWORE he was on our roof (he did if before when we got our roof replace. I forgot why, but it was helpful for some reason).
Who is photobombing who?
Wes is obsessed with Reggie (to my dismay) but Reggie just barely tolerates him.
He was pretty resistant for his afternoon nap, but I finally got him down. And of course, the dogs barked. This is them after I scolded the absolute crap out of them.
Tyler made me an omelet for dinner. (I can’t make an omelet to save my life). Walked the fur children, showered and lights OUT.
How was your week?
Hi friends! Happy middle of the week to you!
Once again, not much new to share here. I haven’t been to a liquor store in AGES, so if Tyler doesn’t bring home anything new I pretty much have nothing to post.
I surprisingly didn’t drink a single thing this past weekend- just wasn’t feeling it. Plus, I really wanted quality sleep since Thursday night was pretty rough.
But today (this morning) I made us some pretty delicious bevvies:
Coffee ice cubes + vodka + baileys + coffee = the best math equation ever.
Coffee ice cubes are the BEST.
Michael shared a new beer, too!

It’s a brown ale from Hill Farmstead in Vermont.
Yum! I used to not be a fan of brown ales, but have recently tried a couple that have been tastier than I thought!
Don’t forget to share any new booze finds/products so I can compile a Christmas Wish List!
What are you drinking this week?
